  • where can you get those

  • @burgwald02

You can make them with Pvc pipes and some youtube how to videos or you can look on affordableagility. com if you dont want to make them.

  • Agility helped me connect with my dog like never before today we got our first run through a homemade course with no leash :}

  • Very Nice! I do agility with all sorts of animals. Please come see our Guinea Pig Videos doing agility and tricks. And yes, my Guinea Pigs weave polls and items and carrots and Easter Eggs

  • i train mine with a ball and he does well, he picked it up in an hr, but now I don't know how to get him to do it without the toy ...

  • My little pug just learn the weave poles but i have to walk beside him and say commands otherwise he just stops, and he walks them instead of going faster anyone have any tips on what i could do to make him better at them???

  • Years?! Fuck that shit!!!

  • do it with a non trained dog

    is like...

take michael jordan and said " people this is what you do with this basketball"

  • @diegomansi Start with a leash first, and guide the dog so they know what to do. You could also try using guides. They will eventually catch on. I'm currently training my dog in agility, and using a lease has been working well so far.

  • err umm, lady can u teach me how to teach my dog to weave? Im teaching her and she thinks its some kind of a game.......

  • @SalenaGarrettt7 Well thats the start. I believe you got to get rid of a bit of the extra energy first so that they are more focused in following cues. But more importantly you have to teach your dog how to watch for you in general.

  • @SalenaGarrettt7 Agility is SUPPOSED to be a game for the dog

  • @SalenaGarrettt7 IT IS A GAME!!!! if you make it work for your dog, then she will hate it. if you watch dog agility competitions, almost all the dogs will be jumping and wagging their tail at the end. my dog does agility and he loves it. NEVER make it work. it is a way to bond with your dog and keep them active.

  • Is this a case of "luring" in the extreme??? GAG

  • I think it would help if she did the video with a dog that does not know how to weave. Acouple of training tools she did not reccomend is the clicker and wires that you can attach to the poles... guide wires.

  • My dog learnt that in about 3 days and he can go even faster than that dog there !

  • 0:43 wouldve been so funny if she fell...

  • months and years???????? how about a couple days

  • @CHloE748 I agree, years sounds a bit too dramatic. I think like a week or so would be more like it.

  • okay...but putting "a good old target" at the end, just convinces my dog to run around the poles. the only way i can get her to do it is to hold a small treat right in front of her nose, and guide her with that through the poles. but she still sometime ignores the treat, and runs around the poles.

  • @20012607 My dog does the exact same thing, and it feels like I'm teasing her with the treat to try and get her to do it..

  • i want something to do from the start . my dog is a very bright collie and is a brilliant jumper and everything else except weaving i really need some advise xx i live in the north of scotland and there is no where around where i can take her to train so if you know of anywhere please get back to me . thank you xx :)

  • @plunky02 I am using the Susan Garrett method of 2 x 2 weave poles. I know that she has some stuff on line. I go to a training center in Dallas - and Webster is progressing well. He is up to 3 2 x 2 weave poles positioned at 6:30 12:30 clock orientation. He is moving his body well through the weaves and hopefully will be weaving through straight poles soon. I know people who use the method shone above and are successful, but the dogs have a tendency to miss the entrance.

  • thank you!!! Great idea!!

  • Must get my sheep weaving next!

  • same , my dog learned weaves within a couple of days and we are competing in Crufts , im not sure how low that dog on the video's IQ is !

  • Months and years of training|? I taught my irish setters within two weeks to weave and enter from any angle using the 2 x 2 system. They are great weavers. Reward trained yes, and compete yes - so to the person who asked - no you don't end up having to reward the dog everytime. It becomes self rewarding... my dogs aren't spoilt either!

  • @SpunkySaysWoof and @tekkchick good job! You guys must have really smart dogs :) I taught mine in five days :)

  • Comment removed

  • Months and years of training wow... I taught all my pits this in 3 weeks and they go through actual weave poles not training ones. The only dog who would take years to train this to is a dead one.

  • @tekkchick

    i agree!

  • Not sure if there's more bad rather than good advice here. Many months or years to train? It took me 2 hours to train this to my puppy. See my video on youtube (howilearnedtoweave).

Just a minor note: dog agility was invented in the UK in the late 1980's... how could anyone have a dog agility career in the early 1970's as claimed in the Bio for the expert here???? Dog Agility didn't exist!!!!

  • What verbal command do you give?

  • so is it possible to train a dog without rewarding it every time? (spoiling it.) is it possible that verbal rewarding could work?

  • flynlow most dogs respond to a food/treat reward better than praise but yes it is possible to do it without food although i suggest if you're worried about spoiling your dog just use its regular dog food as a food reward then you don't have to worry about sspending all your money on buying those exspensive dog treats

  • thank you for the very informative reply! I have some hard working farm B/Cs and I spend about 10 hours a day with them. I am very lucky! just wondering how I can make my day more fun.

  • Good vid, thanks. We just started the basics with my 14 week Jack Russell, Nigel.

  • Wow.

    Thats awesome.

    Im just now learning agility.

And weaving is one of my greatest dificulties to teach my dog.

  • Once I get my golden in 6 days, she's going to be doing all this stuff.

  • my dogs to smart instead of going through the poles he runs around them and gets the toy haha

  • are whippets to fragile to do agility ?

  • probely, but try racing

  • I compete and you see lots of whippets. They should be fine to do agility.

  • thanks

  • No, but you have to be careful when they are young.

  • wow, that dog is crazy good. i hope i can get my border collie to do that.

  • cool vid

  • The dog sort of starts off already knowing what to do. She should have started with a dog who has no freaking idea what to do....

  • My god people! Listen to her... don't just watch! start with the poles appart, get the dog to run through, and move them slowly together... what's not to get???

  • really liked this vid - thanks for sharing

  • It doesn't show how to train the dog to weave :(

  • ?

Yes it does. It shows a method to it.

  • I don't know why this video is rated 4 stars out of 5 by viewers (at the time I'm viewing it). It really doesn't have much substance on how to teach your dog weave poles as the title suggests. What I see here is a dog that knows how to weave poles already. I'll look at other youtube videos to see how someone actually trains a dog how to weave pole (where the dog doesn't know how to yet)

  • Amen brotha

  • normally for beginners you leave lead on the dog and guide it thru the weaves. You can actually buy training weaves that have removable sides on to guide them thru. It takes patience and time but is achievable.

  • Thx! I used this and now my dog duz the weave poles! (:

  • i need to know how to teach my dog 'around' ( when they like come to your side and sit??)

  • what if u rlly work with ur dog but he just avoids a jump?

  • ya it's a great vid and all that, but HOW do i learn my dog that he's gonna go zick zack??

  • my dog can do it just not nearly that good

  • thanks for the post! very helpful!

  • I think that was very helpful! Thanks

  • iv been trying this for a year with my dog and he has still not got it

  • If I were you I would switch to the 2 by 2 method. My dog had a really hard time with the weaves, but using that method she learned them in two weeks and is awesome now!

  • Some dog's actually learn different. Some could be better with 2x2 some are better with channel. Some are even better with just luring.

  • You need to explain and go through steps that help people learn HOW TO get there dog to tech. Ut didnt explain how to get your dog started on weaviong. In my opinion this vid is kind of usdless, i mean i liked it but iot doesnt explain what its supposed to . Sorry

  • how am i supposed to teach my dog that i don't want to talk about weave poles i want to learn how

  • I agree. It didn't explain much...

  • again... why show a video on "how to weave" when you dont actaully explain how to train your dog to do it.

  • what a clever dog!

  • No Sprite is a mixed breed that was adopted from a shelter see the first expert village agility video it tells ya ;)

  • ya cuz every dog starts out like that

  • is sprite her dog a border collie? :)

  • she is most border collie, but mix with another breed also(:

  • Awesome weaves at the end!
