Very Nice! I do agility with all sorts of animals. Please come see our Guinea Pig Videos doing agility and tricks. And yes, my Guinea Pigs weave polls and items and carrots and Easter Eggs
My little pug just learn the weave poles but i have to walk beside him and say commands otherwise he just stops, and he walks them instead of going faster anyone have any tips on what i could do to make him better at them???
@diegomansi Start with a leash first, and guide the dog so they know what to do. You could also try using guides. They will eventually catch on. I'm currently training my dog in agility, and using a lease has been working well so far.
@SalenaGarrettt7 Well thats the start. I believe you got to get rid of a bit of the extra energy first so that they are more focused in following cues. But more importantly you have to teach your dog how to watch for you in general.
@SalenaGarrettt7 IT IS A GAME!!!! if you make it work for your dog, then she will hate it. if you watch dog agility competitions, almost all the dogs will be jumping and wagging their tail at the end. my dog does agility and he loves it. NEVER make it work. it is a way to bond with your dog and keep them active.
I think it would help if she did the video with a dog that does not know how to weave. Acouple of training tools she did not reccomend is the clicker and wires that you can attach to the poles... guide wires.
okay...but putting "a good old target" at the end, just convinces my dog to run around the poles. the only way i can get her to do it is to hold a small treat right in front of her nose, and guide her with that through the poles. but she still sometime ignores the treat, and runs around the poles.
i want something to do from the start . my dog is a very bright collie and is a brilliant jumper and everything else except weaving i really need some advise xx i live in the north of scotland and there is no where around where i can take her to train so if you know of anywhere please get back to me . thank you xx :)

@plunky02 I am using the Susan Garrett method of 2 x 2 weave poles. I know that she has some stuff on line. I go to a training center in Dallas - and Webster is progressing well. He is up to 3 2 x 2 weave poles positioned at 6:3012:30 clock orientation. He is moving his body well through the weaves and hopefully will be weaving through straight poles soon. I know people who use the method shone above and are successful, but the dogs have a tendency to miss the entrance.
Months and years of training|? I taught my irish setters within two weeks to weave and enter from any angle using the 2 x 2 system. They are great weavers. Reward trained yes, and compete yes - so to the person who asked - no you don't end up having to reward the dog everytime. It becomes self rewarding... my dogs aren't spoilt either!
Months and years of training wow... I taught all my pits this in 3 weeks and they go through actual weave poles not training ones. The only dog who would take years to train this to is a dead one.
Not sure if there's more bad rather than good advice here. Many months or years to train? It took me 2 hours to train this to my puppy. See my video on youtube (howilearnedtoweave).
Just a minor note: dog agility was invented in the UK in the late 1980's... how could anyone have a dog agility career in the early 1970's as claimed in the Bio for the expert here???? Dog Agility didn't exist!!!!
flynlow most dogs respond to a food/treat reward better than praise but yes it is possible to do it without food although i suggest if you're worried about spoiling your dog just use its regular dog food as a food reward then you don't have to worry about sspending all your money on buying those exspensive dog treats
thank you for the very informative reply! I have some hard working farm B/Cs and I spend about 10 hours a day with them. I am very lucky! just wondering how I can make my day more fun.
My god people! Listen to her... don't just watch! start with the poles appart, get the dog to run through, and move them slowly together... what's not to get???
I don't know why this video is rated 4 stars out of 5 by viewers (at the time I'm viewing it). It really doesn't have much substance on how to teach your dog weave poles as the title suggests. What I see here is a dog that knows how to weave poles already. I'll look at other youtube videos to see how someone actually trains a dog how to weave pole (where the dog doesn't know how to yet)
normally for beginners you leave lead on the dog and guide it thru the weaves. You can actually buy training weaves that have removable sides on to guide them thru. It takes patience and time but is achievable.
If I were you I would switch to the 2 by 2 method. My dog had a really hard time with the weaves, but using that method she learned them in two weeks and is awesome now!
You need to explain and go through steps that help people learn HOW TO get there dog to tech. Ut didnt explain how to get your dog started on weaviong. In my opinion this vid is kind of usdless, i mean i liked it but iot doesnt explain what its supposed to . Sorry
where can you get those
burgwald02 3 months ago
@burgwald02
You can make them with Pvc pipes and some youtube how to videos or you can look on affordableagility. com if you dont want to make them.

@CHloE748 I agree, years sounds a bit too dramatic. I think like a week or so would be more like it.
