They were originally signed to AVCO Records, then H&L, Mercury, Philadelphia International, etc. There sound is not the Motown sound it's the Sound of Philadelphia under the production of Van McCoy, Thom Bell/Linda Creed, Hugo & Luigi, Gramble & Huff, etc. Motown is not the only label who had great artists. Harold sounds good but he is imitating Russell - even the way Russell pronounces his words.

This music was the soundtrack of my teenage years in the early to mid 1970's.....You're absolutely right....I don't believe there will ever be music like this again.....I pity all of the teenagers now and the rubbish that artists (and I use that term "loosely") are putting out today.
justcollectingdust is what russell thompkins should be doing. he does not have the chops anymore. the group looks bad and sound equally as bad. these guys are the ultimate group, they look good, sound awesome and their steps are still tight. Airrion Love and Eban Brown cannot be touched by those other guys.They are the voices. Athough Herb Murrell and Van Fields can hold their own anywhere. Don't be a hatter just give the guys their props. Russell was great back in the day .
The real Stylistics are now called "The New Stylistics"......so if you wish to hear the REAL Stylistics.......look for Russell Thompkins Jr".....not this group. BTW....Russell still sounds better than this young guy.......I honestly can't believe Russell still sounds like he's 25 years old.

True music icons who are still performing to this day, 40 years later, and still sounding as good as they did then. @wlbaz This was a couple years back on a PBS Special. They performed from U.K. Right now there are two sets of the stylistics. This one with two original members and Russell Thompkins has his own version called the New Stylistics

I am so there with you when you ask this question ...but it depends on the song writer and the song writers of today can't hold a match to the song writers from back in this era. The real Stylistics are now called "The New Stylistics"......so if you wish to hear the REAL Stylistics.......look for Russell Thompkins Jr".....not this group. BTW....Russell still sounds better than this young guy.......I honestly can't believe Russell still sounds like he's 25 years old.

Where would we be without The Stylistics, The Temps, The Four Tops, Tavares, Ray Goodman and Brown, Earth Wind and Fire, The OJays, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smoky Robinson, The Funk Brothers.......music to make love to.......Compared to the garbage of today.....absolutely no comparison. There just aren't enough adjectives to describe how great these guys are, or how I feel about them!!! True music icons who are still performing to this day, 40 years later, and still sounding as good as they did then. Had the privilege to see them in person last year, even got a handshake and kiss - THEY ARE THE BOMB!!! Music can just not get better than this!!! THE STYLISTICS ROCK!!!!! THEY GIVE ME THE CHILLS!!!

Hate to correct the uploader, but this is the Sound of Philadelphia, not Motown. The Stylistics are home grown Philly. Beautiful rendition of "You Make Me Feel Brand New", thanks for the upload.

@EZgoN2 Are you mad or something?? You need glasses and hearing aids - these are the originals, and they're just as great as they were back in the day. Saw them in person last year, and they were the bomb!! Still touring and performing for the last 40 yrs. How many other groups can say that? Music lilke this just isn't made anymore! Too sad for all of us!! Thank goodness we have videos and CD's!!

@wlbaz This was a couple years back on a PBS Special. They performed from U.K. Right now there are two sets of the stylistics. This one with two original members and Russell Thompkins has his own version called the New Stylistics

I am so there with you when you ask this question ...but it depends on the song writer and the song writers of today can't hold a match to the song writers from back in this era. This era was full of real meaningful relationships, when marriage and relationships really trully meant something. It will take THIS GENERATION to change it back to being worth something again... :)
