i dont trust cyanogen mod i put it on my phone testing it out and didnt like it it almost bricked my phone i had to find all the original files including the .pit partition file before i could really use my phone again and get dorian JVP back on my phone since it could do it without it cause it damaged a dev block called stl10 or something like that cyanogen mod is no good
I did this and ended up putting my phone back to stock w/ root. The battery life was beyond unacceptable. I only got 6hr battery life w/o using apps. While my phone had CM7, I would plug in my phone and open an application and the battery would still be draining! It was fun doing it though :)
i cant seem to find the market and every time i go to sync my gmail for contacts it says setup could not finish unable to connect to server anyone else have this problem??
hey dude any idea on how to get this stupid rom off my samsung vibrant. i flashed it, and i cant seem to flash another rom into it. i have tried billions and billions of ways to flash it but its always a fail. i have tried downgrading cwm to 2.5.1.1 and it says cant mount when i try flashing it, and i cant use 3.0.2.8 cause apprarently its gingerbread and its not supported, you have to switch it to edify( have no idea what it is)...PLEASE HELP IM BEGGING YOU.
I finished everything BUT now my screen is all messed up, it is in landscape when i am portrait and vise-versa and now my home button is back and my back and search dont work, HELP
dude can you give a list of instruction please because your subtitles helped a little i tried this on my vibrant and i went into a soft brick please help?
does this work with the current INITIAL build which is 2.3.4, the instructions i found said to start with 2.2 froyo for that one, so wanted to know if I can still use these instructions and install CM7 2.3.4 or if I needed to use the other instructions.
Also Does this install superuser, if not can I still use the superoneclick to root after?
Hey Josh, I have a vibrant and I went to the link you gave for the kernel, downloaded the file, and tried it, but the kernel was in a zip file rather than a tar file, so I dont know what Im supposed to do.
Btw, you are doing a great job with your videos and really appreciate the time and effort you put into them. Thanks!
Thank you so much buddy I really appreciate your tutorial, The only problem i had was finding the links for the files, it would be great if you paste a copy of the links right in you video description so people dont dig google for all these files, but anyway thank you so much
@gentzkowa As long as your phone didn't lock up you can still put the files on the phone. If it did, go into download mode and re-flash eclair with odin one-click. Then start over. :)
thank you, this tutorial was very helpful and the download worked great. You may want to remind everyone to put all the neccessary files onto their internal SD before beginning
Hi @MobileTechVideos : I followed all the steps and did exactly same. Everything is working but i have some serious issues to fix. Please help me. I want to donate after it is done but because of these issues held back. I want to donate please help me to fix these issues
1) Market is not working
2) Phone is not going to recovery mode from ROM Manager
3) Sometimes randomly it plays some music (annoying) and no way to stop it. Im not playing any music or videos in phone.
@Chazl33t Yeah, I feel stupid. i figured that out shortly afterward. I used their bulk instructions and files but followed the video when it came to recovery mode. No problems.... Runs great!
@UcanLEEKmaDEEK Yes it's already in the description. It's the CyanogenMOD website link. If you go to it, near the bottom you pick your device and then it takes you to the sourceforge page with all the links for the model you picked. People are getting upset but they just aren't looking.
i was scared the whole time of bricking my phone but it all worked. just to clarify for everyone. before doing anything, what is only briefly/not mentioned is you need
speedmod kernel downloaded
3 button restore boot capability (most seem to have, comes with root)
.zip for cm7 on phone
.zip for efs on phone
.jar for cm7 downloaded
ODIN 1.7
its alot of files, and even more digging around through links to find them. but it can all be done.
I'm confused a little bit about this. How come on the XDA website the screenshots show it says "H" instead of "3G"??? I've heard that H stands for 4G... But I thought that H stands for HSDPA.. which is 3G. & of course HSDPA+ is 4G "H+" So which is it? what's the deal here?
Hi, I'm a vibrant user. I followed all the steps including downloading the kernel. I tried flashing with CMW but it kept aborting the install. Can you help me?
Just spent 4 hours trying to root my damn Captivate then add Cyanogenmod 7 through threads on XDA and a handful of video's here on Youtube and with every one it seemed they either left a step out or the info was outdated and I'd hit a stump that wasn't covered. The root was easy, but this is the first video that actually got me from beginning to end on ANY sort of rom with ZERO issues. Good on yah pal, I wish I could give more than one thumbs up!
This tut is not re-noob friendly. I started with the G1 and went to Apple after getting board. Now back to Android and I'm completely lost. Don't kno what files I'm supposed to get and from where.
Awesome videos all together, i just recently got gingerbread on my phone after many resets and brickings but it's all good and it's working perfectly. So thank you and i will be donating
As always, your videos are very helpful from flashing to stock to changing AT&T boot logo to this. I always read the instructions first then check out your video which makes me a lot more confident once I try myself
i have searched every link and all i get is ZIP files....you are using a kernal that is a .tar......where do i get the kernal......i folllow the steps and cant get past that part???????
Thank you so much. I followed everything you said in the video and everything works great. I'm really happy that I can finally have both Cyanogenmod and Android 2.3 on my Captivate. Have had no issues as of yet. Great tutorial, only way to install Cyanogenmod on a Captivate. Once again Thank you, and also thanks to the people that developed the ROM.
Probably a stupid question, but what format did you save your speed mod kernal and other files to? I downloaded them as zips and for some reason when I go to search for them in my computer, it can't find it. Please help.
@pivotmastet786 again: if you still have issues just flash to stock 2.2 with root in odin, dl sgs flasher in market, flash cw kernel (you only need it for the cwm recovery). Then follow the instructions on vid or cm7 site. Your phone is not likely to boot after you flash the cw kernel, but just keep going with it and youre in good shape.
@pivotmaster786: I did not flash the kernel with clockwork either. Also, I flashed this rom from froyo. I was stuck at your point and thought I bricked so I reflashed with odin back to 2.1, then had to re-update, then re-root, then start process again. HUGE waste of time. You are NOT bricked. Flash cw kernel, reboot into recovery, and follow the rest of the tutorial. The cw kernel is basically there to be able to get into cw recovery just to flash the initial kernel for cm7 (dont quote me tho)
i followed ALL instructions correctly and when i flash the rom (big file) it gave me an error. it says assert failed then random prop stuff. then after that it says error in sdcard blablabla. plz help me also im using a vibrant.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP IM ABOUT TO CRY!!! I FORGOT TO FLASH IT WITH CLOCKWORKMOD WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW? it gets stuck in the CyanogenMOD boot screen can some pleaseeeeeeeee help ill suscribe or do anything plzzzz help! :'[
@msreekm this happened for me at first too, but it was because i installed the latest sdk package. Before, i had to go to android-sdk> "tools", but from the latest sdk package, there should be a note that says the adb commands or something have been moved to "platform-tools." so instead of going to tools i go and type "platform-tools" instead.. idk if it helps, but try it out..
Okay so here's what happened I followed the tutorial along every step and now when plugged into my computer it shows it's a nexus s. I can't enter download or recovery mode I can't do anything through adb. How can i fix this. I don't have money for a new phone
@laxboy2870 one way u can go to download mode is open obin hold volume down+volume up(NOT POWER), then connect ur fone to your computer while holding the buttons
@KrabKing65 the same thing happened to me, you must make sure to download all the zips before you start the whole process and follow the exact chronological order he shows in the video, one you do everything exactly the same, it will work, you also must wait about 2 minutes for it to proceed with the load up
@KrabKing65 well, i believe you could just restart the whole process, but you COULD factory reset or format the sd card, but i do believe you dont even have to do that (thats what i did, but i had a few other issues). But i think you could just re-do the whole process
@KrabKing65 no, i meant u could do that from recovery mode, also wen u go into obin 1.7, u could re-do the speedmod kernel, go into recovery mode and access everything from there, u could factory reset, delete all user data, format sd card, and even enter usb storage and put stuff onto ur sd card...i thought my fone was broken for sure until i found those options
Hi, all of your videos are great from this cyanogenmod to one-click stock, etc. I followed your instructions and installed cyanogenmod 7 on my samsung captivate. Everything was 100% good, but since TV out does not work in cyanogenmod 7, I decided to go back to stock 2.1 as you have explained in another video. But the ODIN process stuck at factoryfs.rfs. Now, my phone does not even turn-on. Windows does not detect driver for my phone. I tried all win 7, xp, vista & ubuntu. Can you help, please?
@syedshahzadraza Captivate or Vibrant? This sounds like a hard brick and that's something you can't recover from without advanced soldering and a special box. I have the box but I'm not currently offering the service on Captivate. I am on Vibrant however...
@MobileTechVideos I am using Samsung Captivate. Can you give me some information about the advanced soldering and special box procedure? I am not informed about technology, but I can give it a try if I can get the tools and basic information. Is there any tutorial online about it? What equipment will I have to purchase to repair my sammy myself?
Or do you know anyone who can repair the phone for me? I am in Albany, NY. What will I have to pay? Thanks!

@MobileTechVideos Oh no! I am extremely sorry, my friend. I thought my browser was not working properly. This is why I tried to post reply many times. I apologize, Sir.
@syedshahzadraza Don't worry too hard! That kept happening to me, just keep trying. It finally worked for me when I switched computers. Something funny about the drivers. I downloaded the latest drivers on my brother's computer then used odin on there. If it doesn't work at first keep taking the battery out and retrying. You might get stuck at other steps too, as long as you can get in download mode you have a chance!!
@syedshahzadraza All you have to do is pull your battery/sim/ex-sd card - Put the battery back in. Open Odin on your computer, HOLD DOWN VOL UP AND DOWN and plug in the USB cable it should go directly to Download mode.
My phone is rooted stock with RyanZA lag fix. Do I need to just get rid of the lag fix or anything or should I just odin back to stock to be on the safe side?
i fllowed all the steps that you said, but when i get in the speedmod kernel on the odin 1.7 it just said fail. Can you tell me what shoud i do about it? My phone is Captivate.

hello.. I've done everything right.. it runs very smooth and awsome and all but I can't recieve any of the messages sent to me.. does this mean I have tobackup my sms settings and then restore after installing?
also it doesn't allow me to install anything.. it says out of memmory but I have 11GB free.. any help would be much appreciated.. thanks in advance..
Thanks a lot man!!! Now my Vibrant is styling while the others are whining. Even better now that I finished flashing the google apps rom. Peace from NYC!
And if the com port isn't getting recognized in Odin, don't use USB extensions or front case USB connectors. Use a physically connected USB port, i.e. directly in the back of the motherboard for desktops, or the side of the chassis for laptops. That's another problem I ran into. Samsung's drivers, although they work, aren't exactly polished for broad hardware compatibility.
Great stuff, thanks so much! You saved me a bunch of confusion. And I agree it's less.. redundant compared to the Cyanogen team's instructions. There is one thing that wasted a bit of time, though not because of you. If you don't restart after running Odin for the first time it acts funked up. It will fail whatever flash you try the first time. You have to disconnect and reconnect while still in download mode WITHOUT closing Odin and try again. The second time the flash won't fail.
I am users of captivate and I am not good about these thing.. about my phone : 2.2.1 - I9000UGJK4 - 2.6.32.9 and Twingerbread 1.3... can you say me this is good ? and Should I install 2.3.3 ? is there any problem at 2.3.3 about gps wirelees camera bluethoot music player ?

Thank you so much. I followed everything you said in the video and everything works great. I'm really happy that I can finally have both Cyanogenmod and Android 2.3 on my Captivate. Have had no issues as of yet. Great tutorial, only way to install Cyanogenmod on a Captivate. Once again Thank you, and also thanks to the people that developed the ROM.
vkbl111 11 months ago
Probably a stupid question, but what format did you save your speed mod kernal and other files to? I downloaded them as zips and for some reason when I go to search for them in my computer, it can't find it. Please help.

vibrant user stock here!
malkito2891 11 months ago
@pivotmastet786 again: if you still have issues just flash to stock 2.2 with root in odin, dl sgs flasher in market, flash cw kernel (you only need it for the cwm recovery). Then follow the instructions on vid or cm7 site. Your phone is not likely to boot after you flash the cw kernel, but just keep going with it and youre in good shape.
Mannequin901 11 months ago
@pivotmaster786: I did not flash the kernel with clockwork either. Also, I flashed this rom from froyo. I was stuck at your point and thought I bricked so I reflashed with odin back to 2.1, then had to re-update, then re-root, then start process again. HUGE waste of time. You are NOT bricked. Flash cw kernel, reboot into recovery, and follow the rest of the tutorial. The cw kernel is basically there to be able to get into cw recovery just to flash the initial kernel for cm7 (dont quote me tho)
Mannequin901 11 months ago
i followed ALL instructions correctly and when i flash the rom (big file) it gave me an error. it says assert failed then random prop stuff. then after that it says error in sdcard blablabla. plz help me also im using a vibrant.

@MobileTechVideos im having NO luck getting the cm7 initial kernel. when i click it its not found. any suggestions? please?
hisandre 9 months ago
@msreekm this happened for me at first too, but it was because i installed the latest sdk package. Before, i had to go to android-sdk> "tools", but from the latest sdk package, there should be a note that says the adb commands or something have been moved to "platform-tools." so instead of going to tools i go and type "platform-tools" instead.. idk if it helps, but try it out..

@krabking sounds like you bricked your phone...?
billholb1974 11 months ago
@billholb1974 that's what's weird about it. My computer sees it, it powers on and adb lists the device as working

Okay so here's what happened I followed the tutorial along every step and now when plugged into my computer it shows it's a nexus s. I can't enter download or recovery mode I can't do anything through adb. How can i fix this. I don't have money for a new phone

KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 take battery out and do 3 button combo to enter recovery mode
laxboy2870 11 months ago
@laxb I've done that and I've used adb
KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 to get it to show up in obin, u must enter download mode
laxboy2870 11 months ago
@laxboy2870 I can't get it to go into any mode
it just stays on the Galaxy S cyanogen mod screen. It won't go into anything else
KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 take out battery, make sure no power is getting to the phone to go on, then try it
laxboy2870 11 months ago
@laxboy2870 now for some reason it's showing my phone as a nexus s on my computer
KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 i have no idea y, but its good thats its showing up on ur computer, originally, mine didnt even show up
laxboy2870 11 months ago
@laxboy2870 one way u can go to download mode is open obin hold volume down+volume up(NOT POWER), then connect ur fone to your computer while holding the buttons
laxboy2870 11 months ago
My captivate is stuck at the Galaxy S Cyanogen mod screen and will not do anything if i reboot it get's stuck
KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 I followed everything to a t
KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 the same thing happened to me, you must make sure to download all the zips before you start the whole process and follow the exact chronological order he shows in the video, one you do everything exactly the same, it will work, you also must wait about 2 minutes for it to proceed with the load up
laxboy2870 11 months ago
@laxboy2870 how did you reset it to where you could retry
KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 well, i believe you could just restart the whole process, but you COULD factory reset or format the sd card, but i do believe you dont even have to do that (thats what i did, but i had a few other issues). But i think you could just re-do the whole process
laxboy2870 11 months ago
@laxboy2870 it won't let me do anything it just shows the screen and if you can factory reset from adb i would like to know how
KrabKing65 11 months ago
@KrabKing65 no, i meant u could do that from recovery mode, also wen u go into obin 1.7, u could re-do the speedmod kernel, go into recovery mode and access everything from there, u could factory reset, delete all user data, format sd card, and even enter usb storage and put stuff onto ur sd card...i thought my fone was broken for sure until i found those options
laxboy2870 11 months ago

Thanks!

Or do you know anyone who can repair the phone for me? I have two Captivate phones. One is working and is under warranty. Second has no warranty and it got bricked. Can AT&T do anything for me? What will be the cost if I send it to someone for repair? These are a lot of questions, sorry. And thanks!

@MobileTechVideos Oh no! I am extremely sorry, my friend. I thought my browser was not working properly. This is why I tried to post reply many times. I apologize, Sir.
syedshahzadraza 11 months ago
@syedshahzadraza Don't worry too hard! That kept happening to me, just keep trying. It finally worked for me when I switched computers. Something funny about the drivers. I downloaded the latest drivers on my brother's computer then used odin on there. If it doesn't work at first keep taking the battery out and retrying. You might get stuck at other steps too, as long as you can get in download mode you have a chance!!
ryanraffety 10 months ago
@syedshahzadraza All you have to do is pull your battery/sim/ex-sd card - Put the battery back in. Open Odin on your computer, HOLD DOWN VOL UP AND DOWN and plug in the USB cable it should go directly to Download mode.
Mr2007Subie 10 months ago
My phone is rooted stock with RyanZA lag fix. Do I need to just get rid of the lag fix or anything or should I just odin back to stock to be on the safe side?

Thanks a lot man!!! Now my Vibrant is styling while the others are whining. Even better now that I finished flashing the google apps rom. Peace from NYC!
blackkroosterr 11 months ago
And if the com port isn't getting recognized in Odin, don't use USB extensions or front case USB connectors. Use a physically connected USB port, i.e. directly in the back of the motherboard for desktops, or the side of the chassis for laptops. That's another problem I ran into. Samsung's drivers, although they work, aren't exactly polished for broad hardware compatibility.
btaxejk 11 months ago
Great stuff, thanks so much! You saved me a bunch of confusion. And I agree it's less.. redundant compared to the Cyanogen team's instructions. There is one thing that wasted a bit of time, though not because of you. If you don't restart after running Odin for the first time it acts funked up. It will fail whatever flash you try the first time. You have to disconnect and reconnect while still in download mode WITHOUT closing Odin and try again. The second time the flash won't fail.
