Possums, because of their culinary choices (carrion, etc.) have a rather bad selection of bacteria in their mouths that can make a bite (and they have sharp canine teeth that can make puncture wounds) pretty dangerous. Mostly, they like to be left alone. They are not prone to attack. Usually when cornered they "play possum" (pretend to be dead in hopes of being left alone). This little fellow was terrified for it's life. Only marsupial on our continent. Very valuable and cool.
