Depends on what you're doing. If what you're trying to run can work through the Twilight Hack, Smash Stack, or Indiana Pwns, you'll probably be able to do it without an active net connection to your Wii.

The Wii Homebrew Channel or anything involving changing IOSes or downloading anything, I can't tell you much about, though.

As long as you have a way to write the data onto the card and know that the Wii can read/write to it, it should be fine. Every SD card I've tried has worked so far (even some 32MB cards I had left over from a Juice Box my parents bought for me years ago that I rarely used.) and the SD card I had gotten made specifically for the Wii.

So yeah, I think any SD card should work. Unless it's a Mini or Micro SD, in which case it'd need to be the right size.

(Also, there may be an 8GB limit. Not sure.)
