  • lol lucky it didnt hit ur head

  • It can be easy for someone to take these weapons as toys or old junk technology but they once Did and Still Can put you underground !

  • It looks like he used smokeless powder. Notice there is barely any smoke. Black powder would have thrown a nice cloud of smoke, not that tiny bit of smoke you see here.

He is lucky that thing didn't blow up and kill him. Never use smokeless powder in a black powder firearm.

  • @osallent Im gonna back his theory up. Either that or he loaded way to much pyrodex. Either way a bad mistake. Always take care when shooting blackpowder. Its extremely dangerous IF NOT USED PROPERLY

And do not SMOKE around it my friend had to learn this the hard way.

  • The excess of black powder is thrown away without burning due to the low velocity of deflagation. The modern-smokeless powder can destroy the barrel. Yes, I know what I'm talking about, I got some few modern replicas

  • no where near an expert in black powder but from this looks like wrong load.

  • Geez! how many grains of blackpowder, i hope u did not use smokeless, it could have been worse........

  • Hell!!! That wen´t wrong

  • Not cool !

  • ooO. (at the end.

  • i hope the gun is ok, no really, this could happen to anyone.

  • wow you must have had a really loose grip on that...im a english civil war reenacter

  • Holy shit, thats funny as hell!

  • 0uch, I felt that! Hope he#s feeling better in 2011! :D

  • Haha... Love it. Nobody ever uses black powered guns correctly. They either use the wrong powder or use black powder, and assume it has no kick so we can fill the barrel with as much as we want.

  • wait when did using a gun that uses exposed flames to shoot in a bulding made of exposed wood a good idea?

  • Haha silly bastard

  • its a black powder gun not a .600 nitro express

  • Poor guy. That's GOTTA hurt! Accidents happen to EVERYONE. The big deal in life is trying to learn from them so they don't happen again.

  • Dumbass

  • that would be the result of smokeless powder..not smart at all

  • hes lucky it didnt blowup

  • OUCH! :S

  • daaaamn, probably didn't pack every thind down inside it or used 4f powder instead of 2f or used smokeless powder one of the three

  • What did he do wrong? Put too much black powder?

  • way to go...

  • funny thing here is that most of the people saying learn to fire a gun..havent even touched one :/

  • @ramon716 why would you say that???? the guy shooting this pistol looks like he never fired a gun before!

  • lmao ya jackass!!!

  • looks like a sawn off :p

  • learn to properly hold a gun idiot

  • How many Grains???

  • Those guns are that powerful?

  • @thebadguyhall yes it is very powerful but only at close range due to the musket and pistol not having any rifling in the barrel so when the ball came out of the barrel it went in many directions

oh and trust me when it does go in your direction start praying to god because these weapons literally punch a hole through your clothing, skin, muscle and bone

    soz for the long reply

  • ouch that looked bad, hope he didn't do himself any damage

  • @CaptainBillFish

Description: "The result of this accident was seven stitches on his cheek, a scratch on his glasses and worst of all, this video being passed around to everyone who knows him!"

  • r.i.p

  • OOPS...

  • Try holding it right.

  • does he have girly hands?

    it's a flintlock you idiot!

    use your man hands!

  • Nice job moron.

  • ohhhhhhhh my god I hope he's OK :(

  • @sonick808 i hope the gun is ok

  • LOL WTF HAPPENED? dumbass

  • Looks to be a Harpers Ferry .58 cal pistol. I have shot one many times. Stout kick but nothing like that. Either he double loaded it (1 full load on top of an other full load) or put 2 or more balls on top of a charge.

  • lol slapped in the face , he deserved that :D

  • Fail.

  • No wonder the Rebels lost the Civil war.......lol

  • hahah

  • @vtwintora Well percussion cap isn't that different. I think Confederate might of had percussion cap too.

  • @Norogoth Double trouble for the Rebels.

  • I can't figure out how he did that. he must have had 50+ grains of powder in there. Maybe he didn't lube the patch or maybe he used a larger caliber ball with no patch and just forced it down there. If thats the case then he's to stupid to be allowed to hold a gun anyway.

  • O It's also possible that he used "smokeless powder" instead of black powder. If thats the case then we aren't looking at a gun that malfunctioned it was a pipe bomb that didn't fully explode. Same as before he's an idiot if he did that.

  • He wasn't really holding it properly anyway.

    That probably contributed to it.

  • RAEPPP!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

  • wow 4 a old gun it sure packs a load of recoil

  • Magnum load with no man grip, maybe a bit more with the way that thing flew back.

  • I'm glad he wasn't severely injured. It's pretty easy to make a mistake with guns, especially when you're concentrating on making a video, not firing the weapon.

Now, if he loaded the weapon improperly, well, perhaps he got off easy.

  • amen

  • haha fanny ! !

  • it looks like the barrel flew out of the stock

  • Looks like user error to me.

  • don't be a pussy and shoot it with 1 hand like pirates >:)

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dumb ass

  • lucky it didnt choose to insert itself into his skull

  • BOOM! HEADSHOT!!

  • hahha thats funny

  • yup. XD

  • And lesson 4) Never underestimate the power of old fashined black powder guns.

  • Is it possible a "friend' loaded it for him and put smokeless in it as a joke? that's way too much kick.

  • I have known this guy for 19 years, he is in the Military, I just promoted him to E7, and he knows more about guns than anyone I know.

The fact that he kept this little nugget of goodness from me for so long is going to land him in the dog house. What makes this so darn funny, is he knows better.

  • lmao, blackmail him with this video, threaten to show the guys at the range

    ahah

  • Why would anyone think this is funny. It's good this guy did not get hurt bad. Everyone makes mistakes, people should be comforted they tried instead laughed at because they made a mistake. This mistake will probably save many others from getting hurt.

  • Yes everyone makes mistakes. That doesn't mean there should be no consequences for stupid actions.

Stupidity should hurt a little. That pretty much guarantees he won't make the same mistake twice.

  • You guessed wrong.

I'm someone that's made stupid mistakes before and the consequences kept me from ever repeating them.

If you haven't been raised with the notion of paying for your mistakes then I feel sorry for you.

  • I CAN SHOOT ONE AND IM FRIGGIN 13!

    dumbass

  • I'm familiar with flintlocks. Recaoils are not that dramatic. He appears to have overloaded the powder charge and held the pistol too lightly.

  • what a dumb fuck

  • i think i jus peed a little....lol

  • or stUpid people, either way

  • this made me snort and LOL. you gotta love stipid people

  • Dont be dumb STUPID

  • I think he wasn't ready and was surprise by the recoil and lost it... glad he's alright and didn't get hurt, It can't be said enough

one have to be real careful when it comes to firearms as it can get real dangerous in unskilled hands. Other comments are rude and not funny at all.

  • flintlock pistols actully dont have much recoil, well, the ones ive seen.

  • That was cool!

  • big ass pistol

  • Wow, funny.

  • what a si

  • LOL fail

  • What exactly happened?

  • looks like it could be double load. i've seen one go off before because people forget they already have a load in the breach. it's a dumb rookie mistake. some times it happens to reenactors because with all of the smoke and noise and no ball giving recoil they can not tell if their musket went off during volley fire.

  • Right - lesson would be to mark the ramrod mentally or other to know if a charge and ball are in.

  • I see now that the poster of this video says the following:

Should you have the opportunity to go shoot an old style flint lock pistol remember these safety tips:

    1) Do not use too much powder

    2) Use the correct type of ammunition

    3) Use the correct material for wadding

The result of this accident was seven stitches on his cheek, a scratch on his glasses and worst of all, this video being passed around to everyone who knows him!

  • Hope you learned...

  • Let the first among you who have not had a lapse of judgment while strutting for the fairer sex be the first to cast a stone--(FLINT-stone that is.)

  • your lucky that didnt killyou

  • what a fuck wit! how embarrasing!!!!!

  • hahahahahah lmao

  • lol ha ha

  • Idiot! It would have been good if he used a lot less powder, proper wadding, ammuniton, etc.

  • You diden't read that in the discription right?

  • I did. I'm just helping out the idiots who do not.

  • ...............

*shakes his head and walks away*

  • What a dick, dude needs to hold it!

  • DUMBASS haha

  • FU AROCK

  • uhh...fail?

you dont hold flintlock pistols like rifles.

  • pistol: 1, shooters: 0

  • how many grains did u use? dame

  • what an acehole!!!

  • you dum son of a bitch!!! what the hell is wrong with yu?

  • thats y u were gogles lol

  • Good thing he was the instructor! ha ha ha ha

  • reverse headshot!!

  • Why so few smoke???????????

Please, don't even try to tell me that wasn't BLACK POWDER!!!!!!

  • that's gotta hurt like shit

  • Fail shooter is fail.

  • dang!

  • Anyone who owns a 60-62 cal flintlock pistol knows he has to hold onto it. That looks more like a whimpy hold in tandem with too much powder. Yes embarrasing. I simply cannot believe a 58 cal mini ball with the proper amount of powder would do that. It seems like excessive powder or virtually NO hold on that big flintlock.

  • probably burnt his left hand,

reminds me of those photos that did the email "rounds" where the guy lost the top of his thumb holding the revolver incorrectly.

i guess this guy wont do that again.

  • It is not the amount of charge he uses or the caliber. Look at his stance and grip. He is simply not prepared to fire a shot. LOCK THE RIGHT ELBOW!!. If you don't know how much kick there is then for sure use both hands with the left thumb over the right wrist. You can lock both elbows but I never have. I had a .45 Cal. pistol and the kick was fantastic. I never have had a pistol hit my face. Dumb. Like just because you own something that makes you qualified to fire it.. Start with a .22

  • priceless.

  • next time use a helmet

  • I wasn't even going to join youtube until that last comment (it's me in the video). IT'S A REPRODUCTION!! No, I wouldn't shoot an original even though I have several that would probably be safe to shoot. For all those who are wondering how this happened, I used a patched 58 caliber miniball in a 60 caliber pistol. Yes, it was stupid, and it was a lapse of judgment on my part for which I still carry a scar (and I was out of regular ammo and I wanted to show off in front of a girl).

  • Did you score?

  • a very "manly" scar though.

  • dude how much powder did you use because just a .58 maxi wouldnt be much more than double the weight of an equal caliber ball. i mean i have shot a 12 gauge sawed off with one hand just to see if i could and it recoiled less than that thing.

  • Not only that embarrassing moment, you were fooling around with a loaded weapon. Once it is loaded, it can only point down range, not to be waved about. I'm glad you are OK, guy. Safety is of the utmost importance.

  • Aye aye, Captain!

  • what irresponsible abuse of a piece of history.

  • You must be fun at parties.

  • somebody used too much powder or too fine powder

  • How many grains of powder did you put in that pistol? I have 6 flintlock pistols of different sizes and calibers, and even my biggest (.82 caliber horse pisol) have way less recoil than my S&W .44 mag. I usually load 52 grains FFG black powder in my .82 horse pistol.

  • seriously, u don't hold a flintlock pistol like a short rifle, and you shouldn't be sitting down with ur arm bent while firing it, and this guy needs to have a better grip, if he would've had too much powder, the barrel would've probably exploded

  • the barrels are proofed to over 4 times the powder charge they dont just explode wen you accidently add a few extra grains, or even double triple or quadruple the charge and by that point you would NOT be holding on to the gun. i have fired a homemade derringer barrel with a 120 grains of BP which is 4 or 5 times the recomended load.

  • I bust a gut laughing, at least he learned a lesson! Good to know he's doing alright.

  • That sucks! Limp grip or to much powder?

  • OWW

  • Holy Crap! He's lucky to be alive.

  • How embarrasing.

  • .... ouch

  • sweet
