If you take smoking for instance :

There is a costly licence to grow it and home growing is banned (creating fines or revenue)

@manelmariarodrigues Slightly oversimplified argument i think. More babies are not the direct result of higher poverty and lack of education. Many studies have shown that this is not the case as a stable home for which money is required is the base of most families and higher poverty levels often result in less home ownership which again can lead to lower birth rates. This is one example. The issue of overpopulation is also not simply space and resources but one of impact on the environment.

James Lovelock is a well respected scientist who discovered and proved the existence of a self regulating environment by means of organisms consuming energy proportionally. In other words that life itself is what keeps the earth at a constant temperature and chemical makeup. What he also discovered is that this delicate balance has been affected by our existence.
