I don't understand, there is no way for the human body to convert CO2 into oxygen so the fact that they are breathing off of each other makes no sense. Is there some sort of fictional system in place that is allowing this to happen?

@RashidulThePlumber actually, i think the connected two were on a wanted list, and the gold helmet dude wanted to capture them. The attacking guy on a wanted list steals the gold helmet dudes air supply and breaks his air connection to the other guy on a wanted list in the process, causing the gold helmet dude and the other guy on a wanted list to both choke to death. He sacrifices the life of his air-mate and the gold helmet dude in order to save his own or prevent death and then escape.

Aw... man. It would have been so much better if the two connected at the end survived. It would have felt like more of a resolution. Even so, still a pretty cool short film. I'm not sure why everyone's having a hard time understanding it. The two that are connected are sharing breaths. Their carbon dioxide is transferred into oxygen between them. The third guy wants to trade with one because he's low on oxygen. One of the connected wants his oxygen because he's sick of being connected.

My English teacher showed me this, it actually has a really interesting reason.

This could have turned out positive. Since 43's oxygen was running out, and he could clearly tell the weak partner was dying, he was going to hook up with the healthy triangle. The healthy one thought that the nifty handheld thing would be useful, so he was going for that instead. The two would have lived.

But then again, if I lived there, I would have probably died the first week.

That was amazing but i was personally expecting a more interesting conclusion. Right when the film started i loved the idea of having to be linked to someone to survive. But the ending climax felt to generic and straight forward for a film that initially gave a unique and different feel from the start.

Still, it was well done obviously. Nice.

it took me a little while to realize what had just happened. 43 had his own separate source of air, but it was running out. he didn't have much time. he had been following 2 connecteds, trying to find a way to get one of their air sources. eventually he meets up with them and a greedy connected tries to steel his air source. he puts up a fake fight, and when it's gone, goes for the free connected air source, only to find that once the connection is severed, they both die.
