it all comes down to tires. anyone with a brain knows toyota's are very capable, so if someone cannot get over a fairly easy spot then it is obviously a tire issue, or driver issue, not a toyota issue. i just bought an 04 sr5 4 runner and the all season tires that came with it kind of suck, so i found it not working so good in the snow. but it is obviously just a tire issue, i know if i put a nice skinny set of winter tires on it then it will be just like a tank..
I own a jeep and toyota. The jeep wrangler has been with me for 14 years. I've used so much on off roading and reason is more so the size of the car and lift. Its a nible car, with huge tires. Very basic Inline 6 cast iron engine with 2 seats. Engine has 350k and still pulling hard.
The toyota is a great town car, handling is terrible though. It rolls around like my grandmothers 70''s cadillac
1) You're a fucking idiot for not using your brain to realize that...."Oh, my height clearance is 10inches, but when i go over a 1meter high bump, wouldn't there be a risk of damaging the bottom of my NEW vehicle"? "Or, in order to tackle such obstacles, maybe I should consider a lift package like other big vehicles or bigger tires...hmm....."
2) Clearly, you need some tread in the tires in order to grip SLIPPERY mud, correct?
NEXT TIME,if this happens again.. remember just to jack it up and put some rock's or log's under the tyres, anyone can see it's stuck bottomed out.(oh and get some good OFF ROAD rubber)
At least you had a FJ hiding in the background. Lol you wont be stuck for long with him around. Hats off to you, at least you took it easy on it. Sweet!! Looking ride.
The Jeep Rubicon won't last as long as this thing will the only problem is the shity street tires with a set if real tires this thing would go anywhere
yea, i dont agree with the " the best suv" but base price is 38,000$ for a base trail? toyota is too proud of crap. and i betcha' you go take a JK rubicon out to that same place and it has no problem. Jeeps are the best off-road vehicles apart from custom made buggies, and half of them are made off of jeep specs. 34,000$ for a base unlimited and it has 32" goodyear kevlars M/T, front and rear e-lockers, and probably twice the suspension travel. so toyota can't honestly compete.
With Crawling system, even with factory tires, I knew (if you press the crawling button) the vehicle wiil get out almost from anything and even pull out GMC or Ford truck too.
I helped a lot of big truck stuck when I went offroad with some American friends.
Yes that IS the Trail Model. Note the rims, hood scoop, and black fenders and roof rack. And yes any vehicle will get stuck if you high center it. And why are they out there with the crap tires that they come with? Should've been the first upgrade if you take it in mud.
street tires+mud = EPIC FAIL, despite that the truck is a awesome and capable rig eventhough i own a older Range Rover id buy a 4 runner its a nice looking truck but ill keep the rover for my trecks off the pavement
Not sure why Toyota speced Bridgestone street tires for the trail package. Some BFG All Terrain TA's or Toyo open country AT's would have been a much better choice!
love the rocks under tires iv watched a hundred people try it while i laughed never seen it work before if there stuck there stuck only thing iv used under a tire was a recovery chain to get the other tire on a truck with open diffs to spin if u have mud tires it can work well the truck came right out
low range , a trac , rear diff , and R ! after u get out change ur tires ! good video , reminds ppl even get the trail edition u still need put on off road tires !
Bad driver plust highway tires... slap some yokohama geolandes and he would litterly be able to drive right out of it. Trust me, I'm terrible at 4wheelin and my geolanders save my butt everytime. They are insane.
lol this suv sucks so badly it isnt even funny my wrangler could get outa that... but its also taht the driver has no brains... but still jeep is the original, official, off orad suv and toyota just tries to climb up there...
You do know that these vehicles also have reverse... I'm seriously perturbed that someone could get stuck in such a fantastic off road vehicle.
When I can't get out of something moving forward, generally I can reverse out of it, or get moving enough to create the momentum and get the vehicle moving again. My 2.4 litre 91 4runner would have easily made it over that, with tires that aren't even meant for off-road. I guarantee that this vehicle could have been unstuck without the need of a tow.
Why is it that whenever someone posts a video a car getting stuck everyone attacks the driver?Off Roaders have limits, and they exceeded the 4runners limits. There just isn't any traction, especially with those tires, plus it looks like its bottomed out.
Try some trail tires next time... and learn how to drive. I would have put my 4cyl 2.4 litre 91 4runner through there like nothing. I'm almost certain this 4 runner would tear up the trails.
What a dumbasses!!!! Those tires are NOT for off roading!!!! What a dumbo!!! U think coz u got the new 4runners and you can go off roading jus like that?? Use your BRAIN!!!!
this guys is a tool and ppl around him are even bigger fools.....clear sum mud around around all four tires if necessary and add sum grass! work 90% of the time......the driver wasnt even turning his wheels as he accelerated....smh!
The truck bottomed out, the best 4x4 suv in the world could'nt compete with gravity, love the truck tho...despite all the problems Toyota has had the past year, Id still go out and buy one.
@lowlifehippie well, I don't agree with what you are saying about fraudulant publicity, but everyone has the right to their own opinion. I disagree with your statement that Americans dont buil reliable cars, I am and always will be a GM fan,Have a 1995 Monte Carlo with almost 400,000kms on it and the body is solid and engine runs like a charm, unlike my first car, a toyota tercel that took more oil then gas and two transmissions...Just bought an 07 impala and love it...GM makes a reliable vehicle
@lowlifehippie but hey I see where you are comming from, You are a Toyota fan and I am a GM fan...im not saying toyota is bad...they are a very trusting manufacturer, all i said is that I would still buy one lol and i really find it hard to believe that the recals were bogus as I was with my aunt in her bran new prius while we were experiencing problems with acceleration and the car was driving itself...luckily we got it stopped and toyota gave her a new one. thats has been great and reliable.
@TheOfficerBell think itz too long and too short my opinion its like putting mud tires on a camaro and then trying to go offroading with it i had a 1989 Jeep cherokee limited i have never encountered this problem and i hope i never will lol, don't get me wrong Toyota is good at what they do i just think they should put more thought into the 4 Runner i mean really i used to go offroading all the time,my buddy had a 4 Runner and it was a never ending cycle ALWAYS getting into trouble.JEEP rescuelol
Thats 4Runner would have gone right thought it if this guy had off road tires...... This was driver error all day.... But hey your not off-road'n until you get stuck!!! lol I have been there before and we have a ball every time!!! Get some nice tires man and you will be all set!!!! lol
there's two things wrong with the 4Runner, and 2 things only: the owner is canadian, and the tires belong on a chevy cavalier. throw some BFG AT K/O's on there and not much will stop that truck.
What is so weird in this, lol. Everyone know that every 4x4 gets stuck sometimes. Even the best 4x4's, they do get stuck when the terrain gets challenging enough.
its badged and skinned as something else... I think the Prado or something. I have only seen others refer to it... but the frame and power train are on both sides of the pond.
just push that truck guys..next time buy beter tires and giver.with my 4 runner i got a lot stuck in mud or snow, i dont have locker and that is suck and little bit chalenge.
I'd say it was human error, lol. Definitely not the 4Runner's fault. But hey, these things happen. I would be soooooo embarrassed if that happened to me in my (09) FJ. Long live Toyota 4x4s!!!!!! :-)
Gotta hit it a little hard to make it, if you don't have enough break-over angle to cross it easy. In other words..LET THAT 4.0 EAT!! It's a Toyota, it can take the abuse.
Even though it most likely was driver error, this is still an embarrassing situation if this is at a Toyota held event where they are letting amateurs drive their vehicles they should kind of expect this.
lol, these guys are a bunch of losers/beginners. LOL what was that? an attempt to get it unstuck lol. maybe you should stick to your BMW and leave the offloading to the ones with some Kinna skills and experience. I have been in worse positions in My 3rd gen 4runner (96 w/lockers) and never had a problem, but your vehicle is loaded with the latest and top of the line 4x4 drive system. as everyone else said, its not the truck it the driver.
You high centred it. If you wanna take that vehicle on terrain like that you're probably gonna need a lift because the newer 4runners dont have the clearance/short wheelbase that the older ones had. A 3 or 4 inch lift and 33's would do very nicely.
Yes, but as this video clearly demonstrates, most so-called 'mud + snow" tires are generally useless in mud (and probably snow for that matter). All-Terrains should at least be optional on the vehicle.
Man, I cannot believe you guys. Have you never offroaded before? Your lame attempts to get "un-hung" are embarrassing to just about anyone who offroads. OMG!
Well Toyota basically just wanted to show what the 4Runner could do in stock form. Most of the time you'll probably be driving on roads, so that's what they equipped it with. Other than this part though, it handled admirably on the trails.
it all comes down to tires. anyone with a brain knows toyota's are very capable, so if someone cannot get over a fairly easy spot then it is obviously a tire issue, or driver issue, not a toyota issue. i just bought an 04 sr5 4 runner and the all season tires that came with it kind of suck, so i found it not working so good in the snow. but it is obviously just a tire issue, i know if i put a nice skinny set of winter tires on it then it will be just like a tank..

You high centred it. If you wanna take that vehicle on terrain like that you're probably gonna need a lift because the newer 4runners dont have the clearance/short wheelbase that the older ones had. A 3 or 4 inch lift and 33's would do very nicely.

the big problem is the bad driver in the car ,, nothing else is wrong,,, the car one of the best 4WD out there ..

It's not because of tires. When the car is on her belly it does not matter.
Vanuatoo 2 years ago
Although those factory all-season minivan tires they have on it certainly don't help the situation.

actually the 4runner comes with stock mud and snow tires, but aftermarket mud and snow tires would be better tho
64bitgfx 2 years ago
Yes, but as this video clearly demonstrates, most so-called 'mud + snow" tires are generally useless in mud (and probably snow for that matter). All-Terrains should at least be optional on the vehicle.

+1
LOL optional at the local tire / service center!
Keep the all-terrains for the Limited model. Get something for the Trail package that is intended for the "trail"

Other than this part though, it handled admirably on the trails.

an older 4Runner wouldn't have been stuck :)

@TheChork first air down because you are in street tires. and you putting little rocks under it is retarded. you should make that no problem.
