It would have been great to see Trish's career blossom.
I can only hope that more people discover her music now and appreciate it, with younger listeners realizing that female vocalists can be talented and unique without having to resort to cliche' entertainment crap. She was rare and even though she's gone, her music will live on.
Sorry to all of Trish's friends and family. Feels like I've lost a good friend, so sad you have gone, so sad to lose. So sad no new Broadcast records will ever be born…
This is the faint sad song of a soldier class of american boys soon to be men that are sent off to feed the military machine and are then thrown out like yesterday's trash. It sings about our imperial empire and how the male role is a violent oppressive one, with many bombs. It's a very pretty song... there's a reason it was not played much in the states...
@quilmesdave What's your point exactly? You're a 47 year old American, presumably single, presumably frustrated & desperate. Is it SO unreasonable of this rest of us to assume that you'd understand something as (relatively) subtle as a Broadcast lyric? A talented & affab;e woman that many people on here respect, or even know personally, has died tragically & needlessly. If you have nothing constructive to say, why not click on a Katy Perry video instead?
@diskochimp before this turns in to another "stupid american thread", lets just just ignore that idiot and vibe out to the song. im an american and huge fan of broadcast. r.i.p. trish keenan
@diskochimp None of what you say about me is true, but I don't care about your opinion. I didn't know the group, to be honest, is sad that she died, and I never offended her in any way.
I don't like their music, or this particular song. I didn't know, that you have to give a positive feedback on a youtube group, or song. Unless you think different. And I don't care about Kitty Perry either. Big hug, my friend.
@ttinsly I think the lyrics are far too objective and detached, and the melody much too upbeat for it to evoke any sadness or moral implication like you're suggesting. Trish wrote the lyrics using the cut-up technique, after all.

Wow love this song, it reminds me of America in its youth, and when everything we do is for someting special. American soldiers fight for what is special, and that is their country. captialism or whatever doesnt matter, we r to heroic and care for a just cause.
the song is purely and essentialy about the military industrial complex of America and its capitalist...no i mean sublime facist system....yup...well if you dont agree...disprove it with evidence! Essentialy, everything could not be everything.
hehe jokes. yankee power, america's soldier, america's boy. at the same time the image of the american soldier is trumpeted and decried. so many think that american soldiers are on the side of good and right. in a neutral sense,i think american soldiers are no more than what they are... boys trained to kill by a government. it's no different than rome; not much has changed. trish keenan's lyrics are puzzling but you can find lots of ideas if you let the music do the thinking.

@ttinsly its not commercially viable, its aimed at a niche market.
but this type of stuff will leave a imprint for historians years from now who will go over our culture and see that not all of us were for the war.
