It would have been great to see Trish's career blossom.

I can only hope that more people discover her music now and appreciate it, with younger listeners realizing that female vocalists can be talented and unique without having to resort to cliche' entertainment crap. She was rare and even though she's gone, her music will live on.

This is the faint sad song of a soldier class of american boys soon to be men that are sent off to feed the military machine and are then thrown out like yesterday's trash. It sings about our imperial empire and how the male role is a violent oppressive one, with many bombs. It's a very pretty song... there's a reason it was not played much in the states...

@ttinsly I think the lyrics are far too objective and detached, and the melody much too upbeat for it to evoke any sadness or moral implication like you're suggesting. Trish wrote the lyrics using the cut-up technique, after all.

hehe jokes. yankee power, america's soldier, america's boy. at the same time the image of the american soldier is trumpeted and decried. so many think that american soldiers are on the side of good and right. in a neutral sense,i think american soldiers are no more than what they are... boys trained to kill by a government. it's no different than rome; not much has changed. trish keenan's lyrics are puzzling but you can find lots of ideas if you let the music do the thinking.
