  • Nice cover. I can't tell with 720p HD if the hi-hat is playing 4/4 or 8/8? Maybe you have a bit too much reverb on the track. With the original I really like the mix of acoustic drums and electronic percussion between the beats and the fact that the track is really tight and simple.

  • Brilliant, mate! This kicks some serious ass, I wish I could add vocals on it!

  • its amazing what you've done here G. You deserve to be a rich and famous man... J

  • @jonannlou

I am rich, just not in terms of money.

I am famous too. I only want people like you to listen to my music.

  • Spot on ,,,,,, let me put the vocals on

  • I think that all of the arrangements on this album, as well as its sister album "The Riddle," are masterpieces for much the same reasons that you describe in the video info section... Kershaw is one of the most brilliant and underrated song-writers and music-arrangers of all time.

  • Absolutely spot on my friend nice work!

  • it's crazy how nearly every bit of gear you have was also owned by mike lindup :p excellent cover

  • brilliant, very classy. all sounds perfect, the slap bass sound is identical too!!

  • Awesome song! Love the bass line and the drum track too.

You have a Yamaha QX-1?! I have one of those monsters too. lol I have the QX-3 that works perfectly to this day. My QX-1 worked but the disk drive was not working well. Both sequencers are awesome machines. Beautiful Jupiter-8 too!

    :) TSF

  • @TheSynthFreq

Yeah, them 5,25-inch floppies are anciet and prone to ailments.

This QX1 I haven't used yet, it was chucked in as a freebie when I bought the TX816. Amazing about the QX1 is that it has 8 MIDI-Outs.

I love old sequencers, as they're very hands-on.

The MSQ700 is even more excentric.

Will do a video on that soon.

  • Very good !

  • Brilliant!!!!!!

  • Geeky question alert!!!

I see this was recorded in Logic, but did you also use Logic to sequence the synths?

Sounds great by the way!! Lovely sound

  • @jauqq

Yes, my vintage synths all have MIDI, so I record them on Midi tracks first and then record the audio outputs. Logic has a whole heap of synths built in as well.

I hope Logic-10 will have an improved sequencer, which is more like the MPC60 sequencer.

  • @Geeljasjes In what way do you mean?

As in that Logic 10 will be more pattern based, as the MPC60/ ASQ10 is?

  • @jauqq

    That's one point.

Looping and erasing drum notes is not that easy in Logic either.

I have just worked with the MPC60 for so long, nothing can yet replace it.

I use Logic because it's convenient with effects and bouncing recordings.

  • the synths on the original track are juno 60 for the lead and jupiter 6 for bass sequence , you can see him playing live at the hammersmith 84 concert video,

later on he used a lot of ppg and prophet vs, i agree 'cloak and dagger' always was a very clever track , also listen to 'wide boy' , the amount of key change progressions in that are dazzling for a pop single

  • @kurryg1

    Thanks for your comment.

They did indeed use a Juno-60 and Jupiter-6 live, but the bass you hear live is played back from tape. I have had a Jupiter-6 for a long time and there's no way it can produce that bass. I can get an identical bass sound on my Minimoog, which was used on the recording.

The synth that he used a lot on Radio Musicola and The Works was a JX-10.

I agree with you on the key-changes.

Kershaw is a genius in making unnoticable key-changes.

  • Nice!!

  • Awesome work mate !!

  • impressive.
