If I want to put lime, I use the lime peel. I line the pan with the peel and put the caramelized sugar with it. There are many variations to make leche plan; this is a basic recipe.

If you live in the US you can use buttermik or half and half instead of evaporated milk or whole milk.

Thanks. Just to let you know, you can also bake the leche flan.
Bake 35-45 minutes at 350F pre-heated oven. Bake the flan on top of a cookie tray with 1/2 inch tap water.
