The pirate swinging from the ropes scene in the 1st, and Penelope's character looking like Elaine! Just two of MANY similarities.

Turns out the writer of Pirates of the Caribbean was the same writer slotted to write the script to the MONKEY ISLAND MOVIE!! Mysteriously, Monkey Island was never made....

@jasminlaflamme Well, Gilbert took a lot of artistic freedom from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride at the theme parks. Later, PotC was written on the basic story of MI2/MI3.

To be honest, I don't think you can compare Sparrow and Threepwood though. Guybrush doesn't *intend* to be funny, that's one of the big reasons he is, where Sparrow knows he's drunk and hilarious and takes advantage of it.

And of course, Pirates of the Caribbean doesn't have any insult sword-fights!

God how I love this game. . but nothing ever beats the feeling of awe and wonderment when I saw the intro vid for the first time in 1997 . . . I'm just sorry they hardly make games like this anymore. . I mean I don't have an issue with the pretty awesome fps's and whatnot coming out these days, but I can't help feel nostalgic for the well made and thought out point and click adventure game. . .I do look for ward to SMI-SE which lucas is doing. . not so much about TMI. . .

It was an alright game but it wasn't a good Monkey island game, the whole evil industrialist angle didn't fit with the piratey aesthetic of the first three games even with the more contemporary jokes in the earlier games like the carnival of the damned and the rubber arm bands on the pirates didn't pull the game so far from pirates. The new villian, monkey kombat, irritating pegnose pete segment and robot monkey just didn't rub me the right way compared to the other monkey island games.

I think the Industrial angle could have worked, but it's definitely a played out idea. Same with the villian. But yeah, I see your points. Too many strictly irrating puzzles, not enough clever point and click goodness. And the robot monkey was pretty dang awful. Plus the plot-holes created with the major "twist." Alright game, not a good monkey game. Good summary.

I really have to hand it to Lucas Arts, they made some of the most entertaining point and click adventure games out there, Monkey island, Fate of Atlantis, Full throttle, I enjoyed all of them. Good times.
