  • I absolutely love the instruments Sage uses behind his songs. It's brilliant. And in my honest opinion, Lil' Wayne isn't worth the time of day.

  • pretty retarded to me how BOTH top comments are talkin about lil wayne. obviously he has some sort of impact on you cause you wont stop talking about him. i dont personally like him but instead of hating and talking shit all the time id like to talk about Sage Francis cause remember thats who your listening to, not lil wayne.

  • @kennyd3535 You're talking about him too bro >.>

  • @Ayyadification im just trying to bring the main topic back to the conversation which is sage not lil wayne. and as a matter of fact if you read the comment was the comment about lil wayne? no it surely wasnt but thanks anyways for the senseless reply bud.

  • @kennyd3535 I'm pretty sure you were talking about lil wayne in that comment man... to deny that now just makes you look stupid.

  • @Ayyadification bro, i said his name in the comment but i wasnt just talking about him and how bad he is i was simply saying we should focus on Sage more. and this whole conversation is completely pointless im just going to stop reading comments all together and listen to the damn song, i recommend the same for everyone.

  • @kennyd3535 lol irony

  • my funny valentine in the trumpet part.. niiiice

  • I just sang it word for word after not listening to it for a loooong time. That is how much I love this song.

PS: sorry adjacent apartments at 2 am. hahah

  • The pain stops with the end of raindrops, but this cloudy weather just reminds me of the time we spent together, and how you left forever like that with a snap of fingers, pain lingers...

  • i could listen to that trumpet play aaaallllllll day long man

  • He looks kinda like Dr.Evil from "Austin Powers"

  • Sage without a beard looks like Tom Morello.

  • I havent heard this song in like 3 years, and I cant stop smiling through this animosity filled song :)

  • since 2000

  • STRANGE FAMOUS IS A GOD AMONGST HUMANS!!~

  • Hands down the absolute definition of real rap

  • anyone know the movie sample at the end?

  • @TheAtron2020 Its from the Robert De Niro movie Taxi Driver. Awesome movie by the way lol

  • @chevytruckjerry i knew it was Robert De Niro! haha just couldn't pin point what movie. So funny I've seen Taxi Driver once thanks though man! :D

  • great beat + great mc:)

  • @tomize wasn't he born in 68 :S?

  • The reason everyone is talking about lil wayne is because when ever you think of rap you think lil wayne(average person) he didnt make it that way by being a dick sucker a fag or whatever he got that way for his amazing raps

  • @JdoubleM15 I'm kind of disappointed there's so much lil wayne talk on a godlike sage song.

I don't mean to point you out specifically, you're just the last person who commented.

  • this song is with the buizzzzzz!!!

  • Why comment on Lil Wayne if he ain't even in the fucking song or vid? If you wanna get rid of Wayne you gotta quit mentioning him and before you know it people will begin to forget bout him..

  • @d0zi7 its counterintuitive but very true. great point

  • @d0zi7 good point, take your own advice dumbass

  • @matlock2044 I ain't gonna lie I've said it before.. "dumbass" Don't break ya finger nails E warrior

  • @d0zi7 I wholeheartedly agree with what you were talking about, and i most certainly could have left out the dumb ass part, twas just a logical error in your stateme.....SNAP aww shoots, just broke a nail, guess I'm done haha on to the NEXT E WAR!!!! HIDE YOUR KIDS, HIDE YOUR WIFE, AND HIDE YOUR HUSBANDS TOO CAUSE IM FIGHTIN ERRRYBUDDY IN THIS BITCH

  • My favorite in the write-trilogy.

  • if you like sage's music, make sure you check out my new video. I just put a page up. I play banjo and guitar to hip hop beats, with whitty, ruthless lyrics...check it out!

  • This is to the woman who I used to respect, now I call her a bitch cause I'm constantly upset

  • @akjk1212 T.I. is someone lyrical to grind to. Along with Biggie.

  • @akjk1212 yeah, but i dont wanna grind my girl to an artist who cant rap and/or u can barely understand. save the bump and grind music for lione richie, sam cooke, or some other old, good artist

  • The live version if this song gives me goosebumps

  • his punch on left side feels warm on my cheek without touching the screen only by looking on the fist fight(V)

  • I heard this guy dissed Slaine.

  • best most heart felt sage song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hell the f*ck ya sage!!

  • So many have dedicated this song to me! WAWAWAWA Grow some balls you cry babies!!

  • @sarahmlilley "Grow some balls"? How about grow a heart, lady =P This is good music right here.

  • I don't get why Lil Wayne is the only guy being compared to cats like sage/p.o.s./slug etc.- Obviously he did something write cause he got ya'll mofs referring to em' when ya need an easy contrast.... it's ALL good ya Dumbs!

    -peace

  • sounds like the flobots. handlebars song. fuck this shit. TECH N9NE!!!!!!!!!

  • @XvXCLEE17XvX I couldn't be more insulted. You win an award for that. Big ups to Tech N9ne though.

  • @XvXCLEE17XvX Silly rabbit, this song came out 10 years before the Flobots bit my whole style and watered down enough to get mainstream acceptance. Fuckouttaheah with that BS.

  • hahahha-that was me at the begining of the song-the phone call-i was like 12 damn-ha ha SE7EN THE GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love "My funny valentine" melody in the background. One of the most beautiful songs ever written in my opinion.

  • @jmichalicek08 nice, i thought i was the only one who picked up on that. I agree i'm fond of that song too, thoguh i love what Sage made it into as well

  • so deep and chill :)

  • lil wayne does suck balls, it takes no talent to make what he and all the trendy ass fags who listen to him call music. sage francis is the bomb

  • @wesleyreedmoore

Somehow Sage's worldview and your usage of "fags" doesn't seem to mesh.

  • Totally different style than A Healthy Distrust. Never ceases to amaze me though. If I ran Epitaph and this dude came to me for a record deal, I'da made the same call, indie rock label or not, not signing this guy would be an incredibly stupid idea.

  • Long live sage!

  • i agree wit em

  • All this talk about "Rap".... This is "Hip Hop"! Strange Famous, Rhyme Sayers, Living Legends. Rock Rock on!

  • Good stuff

  • if you like underground music, then fucken support it! if you use Limewire, atleast buy the albums of the shyt you like.. dont just act like yr down-

  • @musekills word up pimp

  • @musekills Truth.

  • @musekills - dude if i buy shit and everybody does.. doesn't it go commercial then? lol.. buy vinyl ! keep it alive! Pz

  • @Nova0085 - ive actually been a dj for 11yrs now, so..

and there's nothing wrong with being known, as long as its for the right reasons.

  • @musekills I think Sage is probably of the opinion of not buying into the whole 'buy the records' shit. I doubt Sage is of the opinion that Art should be paid for but more of the stance that Art should be free and for everyone. He needs to make a living and he does whether people download his music or not. This guy doesn't want money to show him that he's getting his word out there, he needs people commenting on vids like this...sending them to their mates and spreading the word about the cause

  • @Badgerinthenight yr probably right, but im sure Francis has to eat somehow, which is most likely why he started his own label. making money off yr ideas is like beating the system, regardless of what people think..

  • @musekills Yeah that's fair enough. I am a writer/singer/MC/painter and I know how good it feels earning money from your creativity. However, I think making money from anything is not really fucking the system, money is the system. Get rid of money and things would suddenly be very different.

  • this is underground

  • This is what rap is supposed to be. A lyrical expression of personality.

Lil Wayne is a lyrical expression of homosexuality.

Rap is about you, not what people want you to be, but what you are.

And I believe sage captures the art of rap in his music. xD

  • @Wilboy77 Totally dude. But it's more than just 'rap', this is poetry.

  • @Badgerinthenight Exactly.

  • @Badgerinthenight

The way I've always heard it, RAP is Rhythm and Poetry. So today's mainstream cannot be classified as rap. There is usually little poetry, if any. The last real rap still around is Sage and Tech N9ne. That's about it.

  • @thepalmetto I would put Slug,Eyedea and Abilities, Murs, POS,Brother Ali, B. Dolan, Heiruspecs, and MF Doom with Sage and Tech N9ne as well.

  • @thepalmetto FINALLLY!! SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTAND!... someone whos not brainwashed...

  • Mainstream lyrics just makes rap look like a crap stereo-type. This is the REAL rap!

  • Sage is simply the best. I wonder why no one knows him?

  • So friggin awesome only rap i like is something like this guy.

  • AMAZING

  • mind blowing lyricsss! none of that lil wayne crap

  • mosdefinate!! lol

  • lil wayne sucks so much balls it's ridiculous man. no idea why you got thumbs down.

  • @iownjoo yall r my heros for that lil wayne comment. all new hiphop is so fuckin cheesy like fuck

  • @honk4twiggy420 just doin my job

  • @iownjoo you sound so right well i guess you are on of(V)

  • @iownjoo And no wonder you got so many thumbs up, name dropper.

  • @Glitch667 wasn't intentional, nor did i expect it. calm down.

  • @iownjoo I didn't say it was, and I didn't say you did. Also, I'm calm. Fucking name dropper.

  • this song reminds me of Emily Robidoux..... all the writes do....

  • Poetry is poetry. No matter how you w/rap it. Wordsmything or words mything...either way. To see a picture, draw into words, and poke it with a stick.... is truly amazing tool. :)

  • This song reminds me of being 16 driving around.

    I sang along FULL FORCE!

  • @OM3N1R

i do this to this day. except i usually ride a bike so i just look like a crazy ass drunk riding aroudn screaming lyrics at my handlebars..

  • @juggaloG421 Me too! :D

  • "All I ever asked for, was an ear to hear me, what'd you really have to wear that mask for". These lyrics are so profound that one would expect that Shakespeare or Wordsworth crafted them.

  • i dont understand how ppl say underground hip hop doesnt have good beats. this beat is dope. its different. its original. its new. its goes wit the lyrics and the feeling. underground beat IMO r waaay better then mainstream

  • @saintjew People that say mainstream is better than underground hip hop is because they can't begin to comprehend the lyrics and the meaning behind the songs and mainstream is what they can understand, pimping whores, rape, and shooting guns.

  • @saintjew who the hell says that? lil wayne cant hold a candle to this.

    mind blowing lyricist.

  • i never said anything bout lil wayne....i hate lil wayne

  • i never said you did, im agreeing with you.

  • o lol my bad then

  • freshh.

  • my opinion i think threewrite tops em all but then again its sage. all are great.

  • favorite sage song.

    lyrics give u the chills.

  • this song is the shittt. sage speaks the motha fuckin truth...

  • f*ckin amazing...all his songs, id so love to have a conversation with him.. the man is a lyrical genious and just amazing......

  • Things actually come from Rhode Island?

  • theres your four loser

  • Song is soulfoul, meant, felt and will haunt me till my last breath plus my names paul so that helps lol HEY SAGE I DONT WANA BE FAMOUS STRANGE IS AIGHT LOL

  • All I ever needed was hug!

  • Always loved this song and the end, JUST saw Taxi Driver this past week. Never knew that was a sample from the movie. AWESOME!

  • I eated it.

    >:B

  • everyone stop complaining and listen....

the song is soo good, i have no complaints, im glad it exists.

  • there's a difference between a woman and a bitch

  • dude!! its not about the beats its all about the words!!!! underground rap isnt about fancy lil beats its about saying fuck the corrpret mainstream music industry and spittin made ass lyrics behide the mic without havin anyone tell you what to do! its all about the words!!!!!

  • mann i had to respond to this i totally agree. yo its like if you wanna listen to shitty fabricated thug ass rappers who are controlled by the illuminati doing what they told then listen to them weak ass rappers.

  • This is so fuckin sick. Its actually the first thing i heard from Sage.Thanx Kerbs!

  • I disagree, the fucking shit rap nowadays is complex beats and 10 word repetition over and over.

A complex beat would take away from the genius rhymes he writes. I personally like the simplicity of the beat.

  • I really enjoy the simplicity too. good toon

  • underground rap is never about the beat u ignorant dumb shit!!

  • im the ignorant one? rap is about the beat AND the lyrics equally unless its acapella the lyrics here are insane but it could use a better beat maybe something done by rob the viking

  • I personally like the simple beats though, rap beats are cluttered today, and sound extremely shitty. Usually the cluttered beats take away from the emotion in the voice, the horn in this song really adds some feeling.

  • yea but youre talking about RAP beats this is hip hop i think rob the viking (like i said earlier) or snowgoons would match it with a equally amazing beat i just bought a cd called beats to pillage and rob with by rob the viking (hes from swollen members) and all the beats entirely blow my mind almost as much as this song does and i get where youre comin from on the simplicity part i just think these lyrics are soo complex and deep that its deserves a beat thats equal

  • touche. Own personal preference.

  • well at least someone on this whole site is mature lol

  • One who is too insistent on his own views, finds few to agree with him.

  • One who doesnt shut the fuck up gets beat the fuck up

  • youre gunna beat me up? lol silence a ignorant fool like you doesnt deserve to be on youtube spreading youre opinon

have you EVER heard of the producers stoupe? rob the viking?snowgoons? nope prbably not cuz you dont know what the hell youre talking about im done with youre juvenile ass ...this was already settle between me and kamisama two people who know what theyre talking about

  • @tomize who?

  • @tomize

    Lao Tzu :P

  • @HarderScotland Yes :) A wise man.

  • @tomize right what else can i say? well in only my englis were better then(V)

  • Dj premo enough said.

  • yes u are ignorant. if underground rap was ever about the beat more so than the lyrics, then the beat wouldn't suck. the beat would be as good as lyrics. seeing as that's rarely the case in underground rap, its pretty safe to say THE BEAT DOESN'T MATTER.

  • how about this, we all shut the fuck up, because fighting over the internet is like competing in the special Olympics

No matter how hard you try, no matter if you win or lose, you're still a fucking retard. Nuff said.

  • XD That's a great line.

  • woah...dood. where's ur heart? that was a bit too harsh bro...

  • Damb man that was fucked up but that was funny. Shit I must be an ass to think that was funny well ok more clever then funny I guess.

  • lol yea this is true

awsome ... this is to the women who i used to respect now i call her bitch coz im constantly upset ... perfect words in my opinion . getting fukd over by girls sux and its happened to me so many times arrrgh.. goood song

  • the beat is buetifull i love the trumpet

  • selling out is working at a walmart. Nah, it's buying shit at a walmart.

  • how so?

  • Well, people make stuff.

It used to be that people had to make stuff to get by at all.

Now we have the children of third world countries making our stuff for us...

But Companies like walmart are huge for a reason, and that's because so many people buy stuff there even though:

    1) it hurts the US economy to do so

    2) the goods are usually literally "cheap" and won't last

    4) it destroys older culture and way of life

    10) we no longer know how to make stuff at all- you get what you pay for.

  • wow man, you know that all sounded like? like you don't know anything about economics, globalization, or walmart. you're just tryin to sound all insightful but the fact is:

    1) Walmart has played a major role in the develpoment of both Canada and America, mostly America, so you should be thankful.

    2) Walmart is the third most leader is creating jobs for Canadians (I don't know about the US, look it up)

  • Ya, Americans and Canadians having a temporary job is all that matters, huh? The lives that are being ruined by walmart outside of the US and Canada dont matter?

  • Ok my turn. fuck economics fuck globalization fuck walmart fuck "jobs" fuck cars fuck bottled water and Fuck YOU for taking such a snot tone. You are a slave now and forever and are beyond hope most likely you will starve if ever mass tranisit is significantly disrupted because No city in the developed world has the capacity to sustain itself independently of global babylon. We have lost sight of what about life is truly important. -I hope as much as you do that everything works out alright!
  • you're a hotdog

  • You are a hamburger &

I'm an old fashioned hotdog with relish and fancy mustard.

    Sorry for being so doomy...

  • no sour kreaut?

  • hmmmm........interesting

  • fuckin awesome, you feel it when you hear it, thats real music.

  • best lyricist ever hands down!!

  • In the booklet to the "Personal Journals" CD I have he says: "I was disturbed to read a magazine review where the critic implied that I don't pay attention to music and that I have never probably written to a beat. Say what you want about the content, it's honest. It's real. It's documentation of my thoughts and activities. As far as the rhythms, rhyme schemes, delivery, and word choice...they are intentional. So fuck him." Ha I just thought I would share that.

  • word haha. i just read that again the other day.sick album.

  • is Sage Sold out because he was featured on Vh1 a few years back...SHUT IT!

  • na a t.v spot means nothing... and.. sage never sold out..
