  • where can I get that pic? can I get it?

  • @11SrTreze33 You can find it on deviantart - just search for smartbluecat.

    :o)

    Gary

  • @smartbluecat Thanks, hope to see Open the Door soon ; )

  • It IS class, in EVERY form :) I have to completely disregard things that I don't like, otherwise I'm not being true to myself and there is no point. I love all your music, but this particular piece is really good, perfect in fact. So I've hit ya, and let there be no come back, other than to nod approval. You have massive potential. Tx

  • @fuckoffycus Are we still talking about my cooking? No?

    :o)

Ok, I'll reluctantly nod, and less reluctantly, say thankya. As it turns out you have massive potential too.

    :o)

    Have a good one, T.

    G

  • Your creativity; in whatever form it takes, is class!!! I hope you use this music in another vid somewhere along the line, it's really cool :) There are worse things out there that melt your brain :P Namaste!

  • @fuckoffycus Ah come on, Trish, it's not class in every form... I have destroyed more than a few meals with my creativity.

    :o)

I love that you keep coming back to this one. It kinda makes me think you like it and that means a great deal.

Cheers to you and your ongoing, unflinching support! Down with brain melting!

    Have a lovely day.

    :o)

    Gary

  • Another vid I keep coming back to, get a mad rush each time I watch :P You have this music in Grey Garden as well, is it from Bjorks 'Unison'? It's perfect for the vid, I wish I could doodle as well as you, some day maybe :) Your work is in a class of its own, Gary :) Hope OTD is going ok for ya and not melting your brain too much :) Tx

  • @fuckoffycus Cheers, Trish.

    :o)

Well spotted. Yeah this is the first half of that tune - the Grey Garden uses the second half. It's not Bjork though. It's one of my 1st attempts at making music on a pc using altered samples. I took a bunch of single notes from various classical pieces and re-pitched and messed with them to create a new tune... it took a while. I then added the guitar and so on. OTD is still moving forward and my brain is melting.

    :o)

Have an awesome day, hope all is well.

  • Can I ask you what your settings on Camstudio are and what version you used? I've been trying to record speed paintings, but every time after I hit "stop recording" it says that it can't open the video file to compress it, that there's nothing there. >:S

I can record for 20 minutes just fine, but an hour or more and it goes wonky.

Also, what program did you use to speed up the vid after recording? The couple programs I tried scrambled everything.

  • @Sarandib22 I always record full screen and set the compression to Xvid (lord of the codecs if you ask me).

    :o)

On this vid I just used windows movie maker to speed it up. I'm running XP and some 2009 release of Camstudio. Maybe your issue is with memory or space? That said this was about two hours real time and when I hit stop it took ages to save, maybe 2min of nothing before it showed up. Hope you get it sorted. Good luck.

    :o)

    Gary

  • @smartbluecat Thank you soooo much!!! Finally, an answer! I will definitely give that a try. :D

  • She is Beautiful, bro. I might just have to break out my copy of photoshop later... wonder how I'd get on without the graphics tablet.... I might just be calling on you to tap into some of your learnings. A pleasure to watch you work G.

    P. =)

  • @scoobydoobehaviour Why thank you, sir. She's an alright lass for a doodle.

    :o)

Yeah going back to not using a tablet would be horrible - I drew everything with a mouse for ages. It's more of an exercise in whittling using the smudge tool and the eraser. Call away any time, bro and let me see what you get up to.

    :o)

Oh yeah - the 2011 rain of crap update - the house behind my flat caught on fire last night. Thankfully no one was hurt... what's next? I demand 20years of great luck!

    :o)

    G

  • @smartbluecat She's so much more than alright, Mr.H. I've watched this loads of times but I don't think I've left a comment before. There's a whole world of stuff in your head isn't there, bro? All itching to break out, to grow and to dance and fly....

I know you've had the shittiest of years so far but 'it can't rain all the time' dude.... and if it tries to we'll kick it's ass! =)

    Catch you later. =)

    P.

  • Two Hours... that kinda blows me away. I have dreams of drawing with the kind of freedom you exhibited - but me, in that arena I am still totally inhibited. I'll be whistler's Mother, learning to paint in the sunset of my life, if I can't get there sooner. =o) You're talents seem endless - you're amazing and I really loved watching this video.

  • @BluesMamaRaven Thank you. I'm kinda mentally ill with creativity most of the time... I get head aches if I don't express in some form, very often I throw away (or delete )the results - it's just a way to let of steam at a given moment. I practise all the time, sketch on napkins, train tickets, whatever's laying around... I should be a lot better considering how much I do it!

    :o)

Thanks for the lovely comment. You're very kind.

    :o)

    Gary

  • what program is this?

  • @gioros1000 Hey. It's just plain old photoshop 7.

It was recorded with Cam Studio.

    :o)

  • Comment removed

  • @RKRFilmsss where did your comment go?

    :o)

I think you were asking how long it took real time? ... I may be wrong. I used a wacom tablet and it was around two hours real time.

    Cheers for stopping by.

    :o)

    Gary

    G

  • WOW!! What can I say that hasn't already been said?....she is beautiful, and the music was even better, so haunting! Chills! Loved it! :)

Never heard of this speed painting before today when I watched someone paint the Mona Lisa....may make a playlist now of some of my favorites. (this include of course!)

  • Thank you very much! You're too kind. It's not a great representation of my work but I'm very glad you like it.

    :o)

    Gary

  • how the...damn that's some fine art. Very talented

  • Thank you very much!

    :o)

  • Beautiful work, Gary, and there's a wonderfully eerie atmosphere which I think your choice of music complements extremely well.

    Magical!

  • Thank you so much. I created the music a long time ago - I'm glad it finally found a home. Cheers for stopping by, I love your videos man - an island of logic in a sea of irrationality. Anyone reading this who doesn't know

QualiaSoup go check him out NOW. The guy's fantastic!

    :o)

  • "I created the music a long time ago"

It's enormously atmospheric, Gary. In fact, towards the end, as the image was becoming complete, I found myself wishing this was a still from some long, bizarre animation I could immerse myself into.

"Anyone reading this who doesn't know QualiaSoup go check him out NOW. The guy's fantastic!"

    You're very kind. Thanks! ;^>

  • Thank you again mate! If you can be assed my latest video is part one of a making of for just such an animation... hopefully.

    :o)

    Take care, you're a legend.

    G

  • WOW! That's talent. Magic. Speechles. Thanks for the share Trish.

  • This is absolutely excellent!!!

  • Thank you! Cheers for watching.

    :o)

  • Wow! Class 'doodle' Gary, so cool to watch you at work. Such a beautiful picture, how long did it take you? Absolutely loving the music, gives me the shivers...so cool. Namaste *****

  • Thank you very much Trish! It's not a great example of my work but I thought it was interesting seeing it take shape. I took about two hours. Glad you liked the music - it's the 1st half of the piece I used on The Grey Garden. It finally found a home.

    :o)

  • Thanks for sharing Trish!!!

  • Wow!

  • Cheers to you sir.

    :o)

  • wow - that was awesome

  • Thank you very much!

    :o)

  • wow, i faved this..what an artist! congrats.

  • Oh! Thank you J! Glad you liked it.

    :o)

Always nice to see you here.

    G

  • This was super cool. I love getting to see how you think creatively. The final image is gorgeous. I also really like the first kind of abstract city scape that got scrapped.

  • Cheers Caren! I almost didn't post it - it's not a great example of my work, a doodle through and through. I thought the journey getting there was quite interesting though.

    :o)

    Thanks for watching.

    Gary

  • Very nice Gary! I recognized the tracks from The Grey Garden! Good job man!

  • Well spotted sir! :o)

This is how it starts... the Grey Garden is how it ends.

    Thanks for checking it out.

    :o)

  • Oh - I have a new song up if you have a moment.

    :o)

    Have a great weekend.

  • Cheers! Keep at it with those stick people and you'll be there in no time.

    :o)

  • Taking a break from the animation? I love the red. Crimson is THE best color, the color of passion and vitality. I can't decide if she's happy or sad with her situation. She's growing but she can't move. She looks like she wants to go somewhere off in the distance.

  • A change is as good as a rest - I was waiting for a batch render. I'm ALWAYS waiting for a render to finish these days! Yeah - I don't know if she's sad, but I like the idea that if she is stuck, she's the seed of colour that started the trees, flowers and grass. Surrounded by muted dystopia she is the heart of an arboreal revolution, changing her environment into the place she wants to be, or what she is inside if you'd rather. Thanks for watching. I always love your comments, J.

    :o)

    :o)

  • Wonderful! That is very much what I felt watching the progression of the art. I also like the hint of what perhaps is an abandoned man-made structure in the background. It kinda gives the sense of nature reclaiming itself from mankind's destructiveness. I also love the music as always and it goes well with this video as it has movement to it. By the way, one of the clouds looks like a dove...was that (as the late Bob Ross said) a "happy accident"? If so still great subtle symbolism. :)

  • Cheers, man! Yeah I noticed the cloud looked birdlike after the event. A happy accident indeed.

Thanks for stopping by it's always nice to hear from you.

    :o)

  • woah thats alot of work to make picture that nice and the program seems complicated to, nice work

  • Thanks for checking it out.

    :o)

Photoshop is fantastic! You should look into it.

    Thanks again.

    :o)

  • Absolutely mesmerizing!

  • Thanks so much, mate. Cheers for stopping by and leaving a nice comment.

    :o)

  • Again! Nice One! Keep it coming M8. Good music choice too.

  • Thanks man! Glad you liked the music - I made it a long time ago and it's a bit creaky but I think that adds to the charm.

    Cheers.

    ;o)

  • AWESOME!!!!!! =)

  • Cheers!

    :o)

  • Ehy.. can you send me this picture? PLs.. I love it!! =)

  • Hey! Thanks again you can get it on Deviant Art just type in smartbluecat and you should find my page. It has a Creative Commons license - just means if you ever use it for anything you need to say who created it, other than that it's free.

  • U call this a doodle??? D= it's freaking amazing!

love the style ur drawing. i should try cam studio to when i'm drawing in Photoshop, do u have perhaps a deviantart where all ur art is??

  • Hey! How's things K? I think I have a deviant art page - if you search smartbluecat you may find it. I haven't used it in ages though.

Did you ever get that tablet?

    :o)

  • yes, i have a tablet, from trust, not the best, not the baddest =P as i'm not good at drawing, i don't need pro stuff neither, you can see some on my deviantart, my alias/nickname is 7dark7

    =)

and ooh, i'm good thanks, yourself?

  • I'm glad you got one! I remember our tablet talk on my picture vid. lol.

I'm fine, mate. Just working away as usual. Best of luck with the drawing. Can't wait to see some of it.

  • fascinating graphics - but like any painting - when is it finished?- somehow at around 2.00 her personality changed - but carry on producing this 1.1 level imagery

  • Hey Randy! Long time no speaky.

    :o)

Cheers! Yeah it was just a doodle I laugh watching it! All the changes I make, whittling it into something better. I liked the tone of it when it was finished but this vid is more to do with the crazy journey getting there. Thanks for stopping by.

    :o)

  • Wow-

    That was really great-

    Thanks for sharing your process-

    K-

  • Hey! Thank you very much. Glad you liked it.

My process is usually a little cleaner.

    :o)

  • Kudos Gary! How come I assumed you had a Mac? lol Now I am looking for suitable screencast software since CamStudio is geared to PC. Cool doodles going on there by the way.. Some how I saw myself and identified with your creation here.. lol ;) Mep~

  • Glad you enjoyed it, Mep! A Mac would be cool but at least if this breaks I can fix it myself... if I had a Mac it probably wouldn't break though. :o)

Keep growing flowers in your hair.

    :o)

  • There's no perfect computer really. Though Mac's are noted to have less difficulty because all parts of the computer are made by Apple and not various companies for each component like PC's which make them crash.. Mac's are less apt to have a vast variety of software available like PC's. Anything we can find s expensive and not usually free.. Mac's best for graphics and artists though. Multiple screens open.. sometimes up to 30 all at once..no crashing too! That makes it worth it to me! :)

  • Yeah, you find many graphics companys who you'd expect to be using Macs don't (the BBC graphics department) because the cost of repairs - they'd rather just have someone fix a problem on site. Macs are widely used in the arts but that's down to stability not power. To get the equivalent power macbook to my Dell Vostro it would have cost me 3times the amount! It a shame really I really love the idea of stuff just working as it should. When I'm rich I'll convert. Can't wait.

    :o)

  • Yea..Mac's are a money grab! More companies going here with them though to avoid viruses. I switched to Mac when I saw what my girlfriend could do verses what I was doing on my PC. I am not rich either.. Just didn't go out for months! :) My friend lives near by and works for Apple care. They are schooled in all computer systems..Linux and Unix included. Once you look around .. one finds these people.. You do well with the tablet.. Harder then it looks I found out myself!

  • this is well nice gaz, loving the picture Good Job xx

  • Cheers Kat. I was making it up as I went along as you can tell.

    :o)

    Glad you liked it.

  • This is very interesting to watch Gary. I've never tried drawing or creating anything other than the abstract direct onto the computer. Is is hard to learn? Some of it looks similar to Photoshop in application. Love the image as well. :) Thanks for sharing it.

  • Hey! Thanks for watching.

    :o)

It' was all photoshop 8 (quite an old version maybe that's why you didn't recognize it).

I used to draw with a mouse - that was a nightmare. Now I use a tablet. The Tablet isn't quite the same as drawing on paper but it's as close as your gonna get. After an hour or so I was pretty comfortable with it. Photoshop can read the pressure you apply too so your strokes get wider or thinner as you press down like a paint brush.

    Get to it!

    :o)

  • Of course it's Photoshop. Good grief I can be unobservant. My excuse is I was taken with what you were creating. :P I'll contemplate the notion of a tablet. Right now I can only do small tidy paintings which is really not my style, so this may be a good alternative. There's no mess in this virtual world. lol

  • This is great, Gary.

Makes me wish I had some of that software.

    Loved the audio, too.

  • Cheers mate. It's free! Link's in the side bar. Unless you're talking about photoshop... I'm afraid that's not free.

    :o)

  • This is wonderful .. I can't draw a stick.

    Way cool.

  • I bet you could! Thanks for dropping by.

    Always nice to see you.

    :o)

  • Just love watching your mind at work, it does and will always interest me. Great work!

Time and time again u fab!

  • Thank you.

    :o)

  • the inner workings of your mind never cease to amuse and amaze. Amazing talent; amusing sun,...shine on.

  • I'll amuse you, son! Oh - I already did.

    Thanks for dropping by.

    :o)

  • Hey quick draw! First through the door. Cheers!

Glad it didn't bore you to death.

    :o)

  • wow..spectacular.

  • Wow! Thanks, man.

    :o)
