I agree with you on this one!!! Actually I feel the same way about the situation in Texas where over 400 kids were kidnapped by law enforcement officers. I don't like the FLDS group, BUT drastic action (removing over 400 kids) requires an incredible amount of REAL evidence (as opposed to suspicion and rumors). I've been through a couple of the checkpoints you mentioned. One in far west Texas and another in New Mexico, both on I-10. To be fair, the one in Texas was there before 9/11 and seemed to be more looking for illegal aliens. We (me and my Hispanic wife) were always just waved through. I still don't like it though. It is creepy. "Show me your papers..." Ugh.

In the past few days as well the US have annonuced new tightened visa rules for the 27 visa-waiver countries which includes most of Western Europe, Australia, Japan and a few other countries. It really does sound like since 9/11 the US is getting closer to the USSR and Nazi Germany in terms of being police states.

Perhaps the news stations over there doesn't want the attention to be shifted from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan etc to what is happening in their own country!
