As a law abiding citizen of this country I have not seen any of my RIGHTS stripped from me. As a person that has nothing to hide I don't care that my phone may be tapped. Last time I checked we didn't have the right to tell a U.S. or foreign port how to conduct Business to keep there investments safe.I do have a RIGHT to safety and as fucked up as some of these things are. They are meant to protect. Just as you protected us when you were in the Navy. Thank you for your service to our country.
you dont understand how many people got held without cause or had their media cameras taken from them, just for covering the RNC! HUNDREDS OF FUCKING PEOPLE GOT ARRESTED FOR EXPRESSING THEIR RIGHT TO PROTEST!!! DONT TELL ME THATS KEEPING US SAFE!!! THATS KEEPING THEIR OWN SELVES SAFE FROM US! AND I THINK THE LAST PEOPLE THAT DID THAT WAS THE NAZIS!!! I THINK THATS CALLED FASCISM!!
Throwing bleach on people will usually get you in trouble. I guess you did not see them making threats and trowing stuff at people. That is not free speech.
I agree with you on this one!!! Actually I feel the same way about the situation in Texas where over 400 kids were kidnapped by law enforcement officers. I don't like the FLDS group, BUT drastic action (removing over 400 kids) requires an incredible amount of REAL evidence (as opposed to suspicion and rumors). As it turns out the evidence there was pretty dern flimsy!!!
Like when Clinton rolled over the Branch Davidians with tanks. That's protecting the rights of Americans. I could have sworn We can practice religion freely, and that we have the right to have guns.
Ever heard the song "stars and stripes of corruption" by the Dead Kennedys
There's a line that's something like "I love my country too, I think I love it more than you, because I care enough to fight the stars and stripes of corruption"
One of my friends is Irish and his 11 year old kid had the SAME NAME AS A KNOWN IRA terrorist. It gets worse. A murderer crossed the Canadian border with guns and talked his way out of the problem because he did military service. Only his guns were confiscated. However a guy with a 20 year old minor drug conviction was turned away.
Tim, sorry I'm just now getting to this. You are so right! What the hell is happening to our country? Where is the outrage? It is unacceptable! Thank you for speaking out.
As for the 13 y.o. being held. Do you realise its the person at the immigration gate who makes the decision. Were child welfare workers present to ensure this girl's welfare and right were upheld
Well that's one of the things that outrages me here. Do you think that the police can just grab a 13 year old, hold them for questioning, along without some child welfare involved? It doesn't make any sense to me. How can this happen? How much more of this is happening that we don't know about?
@UpDownMostly I grew up in a bit of a chaotic family and sometimes the system didn't agree with the methods employed by my family (mostly because they made me a smart, questioning citizen capable of critical thinking)but any instance in which they intervened was NEVER to protect me, but to try and use me as a pawn, chip or leverage against my family. District 9 has a great scene demonstrating this exact methodology.
I have monitored this same process in the UK for several years. As each day goes by, our so called "democratically" elected politicians systematically erode away Common Law Rights that have survived Roman, Viking Norman and English for thousands of years. My "Right to Roam" over Scotland, particularly,is now restricted by Legislation.
That was obviously for effect. I don't consider the US to be a Nazi Germany. But what scares me is the possibility, with complacency and ignoring what's going on, it could be. It honestly could be if we don't start standing up for our rights and demanding our civilian leadership take some responsibility and we as citizens start limiting some of the abuses of power we see. That's our jobs as citizens.
You also have to think about that fact that America is the sum of it's parts or citizens. And if we, as citizens, are complacent and don't speak out against this stuff then we are becoming something well all don't want to become.
This video along with Fringe1111 should be featured, unfortunately just like with mainstream media it won't move people until something happens in their own backyard.
Hmm, I think you are confusing "the country" with "an administration". Don't be saying you're not proud of your country, say your not proud of the current administration. Makes a lot more sense to me.
I know, and I don't mean to come across as someone who doesn't understand what a great country we have and what good things are here. What pisses me off is that we are allowing some of that to erode away and we're not speaking out.
i agree that there are way too many requirements to get in and out of the united states and like you said, some day it could get to the point where you need papers to travel from one state to the other.
Unfortnatly the majority of America is probably in agreement but can do nothing. Been going down the tubes since 911. Which means the attack by the terrorists succeeded in destroying American life in many ways!
I fear it's too late already. Here's my prediction.. John McCain will win because the fix is in and there's no way he won't. "If it takes 100 years". It's a done deal I tell ya. We've been sold out for some time I'm afraid by 'powers that be'.
I agree. Our country has gone to hell. It's an international embarrassment. Our country has been violating all of the basic freedoms and rights it was founded on.
I've been through a couple of the checkpoints you mentioned. One in far west Texas and another in New Mexico, both on I-10. To be fair, the one in Texas was there before 9/11 and seemed to be more looking for illegal aliens. We (me and my Hispanic wife) were always just waved through. I still don't like it though. It is creepy. "Show me your papers..." Ugh.
That's because they think the latest Britney Spears train-wreck, American Idol, or verbal gaffe is more important to cover. Wonder why that is? I don't know, but it sure seems weird. Scary weird.
It is strange that our news coverage is so superficial. What happened to hard reporting? What happened to reporters doing the hard job of ensuring information gets to the citizens -- the good, the bad and the ugly.
This is not the America I want either. I too love this country but I'm very unhappy with the direction it has taken lately. IMO the terrorists are winning since we're destroying ourselves out of fear. Ya' know, freedom isn't free as some say. I agree. Freedom IS risky and I choose freedom with some reasonable risk over fascism and "security" -which can't be guaranteed anyway. We have embarrassed ourselves as a nation, in many ways.
I saw on Fox News where there is an unmarked helicopter hovering over New York City, with a camera lens that can photograph faces from 4 miles away. The idiots on Fox News fell all over themselves saying how safe this makes us. The people "doing evil" will think twice if they know they are being watched.
To my horror, just about everyone I tell this to says they have no problem with this.
It just keeps going down, getting worse. If we, the people, don't stand up and bring an end to it soon, we may not be able to. The freedom to speak up against it may be the next to go.

Yeah this stuff is just getting crazy. Where is the outrage for this stuff. Are we so scared as Americans we'll allow ANYTHING to happen to be "safe". It's just getting crazy!
A few words, what's wrong with this country? PARANOIA!! for one. Secondly, too much power for SOME people with no ability to handle it properly and to use it properly when they DO have it. I agree. This country needs some revolution - I've said it before. And Woody Guthrie said it long ago and Janice sang of it, "freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose". We have problems and too complacent to do much about it. I agree. Hear, hear!!
Hey Brother I'm still here and still on all the time - just lurking and commenting retaining the account just to comment and to keep in touch with my friends. BUT THAT might change soon. Perhaps I need to come back on and speak up again. Far be it from me to be without opinion or at a loss for words. I'll call you soon.
Amen Brother!!! I'm glad we don't have checkpoints up here. I'm not likely to survive passing through more than once or twice and I really don't relish the idea of being the star feature in a YouTube Taser video. ;-)
