@oldpreach -- Oh yea, I think he's better. How much better is yet too be seen. But if you think that Republicans are freinds for the good of the country, then you are a fool. The only good Republicans were in Lincoln's time.
Well, ask yourself the question, what is so different ? It is just the same stuff with a different jerk in the oval office, and mostly the same rich NWO clowns in the congress. It has been that way in the USA for over 100 years now, ever since the bankers took over.
the Government was a republic yes, but it was still the an Empire. And empire is more of how you use your nation than a form of Government. Look at the U.K., it was an Empire but had a parlimentary system. America has/had an empire as well, and it is a republic/democracy too.
um.... yes it is. Or maybe you are fogetting the anexation of Hawaii, or the territory we held called the Philippines, or the Mexican American war? Maybe you should read our History before you say anything. And it takes more than just anexation of other nations to be called an empire.
wow... really? Ok first of all, again, en empire does not mean that you have a king or emperor ect ect. And um....sorry to burst your buble again, but maybe you should read some history. After the Spanish American war, the philippines were became a territory of the United States of America untill it became free in 1946. hawaii if you have ever read a histroy book became part of the united states well before WW2 and then as state well after.
Giulio Cesare's birthday is 12 of month that bears his name (luglio). His birthday is never celebrated. What a shame! He is a real founding father of our civilization, and he got no honor from mankind, even from Europe!
Historically Caesar was actually a major fop and a dandy. He was a man who loved being a trend setter in fashion and dress. According to Suetonious he even had his hair softened with heated walnut shells. People tend to make Caesar seem like a cold ruthless military leader, but he was actually a complete dandy! And yet, despite his "fruitness" he was one of the worlds greatest military leaders and politicians. Funny innit? So in all honesty, this is a very accurate portrayal!
What had Caesar done to the Senate before his armies arrived at the rubicon. The only thing he did was finalize the conquest of Iberia, and single-handedly conquered Gaul. He even made pushes toward Briton. lol the senate had no problems taking his conquests though. Thats how the Senate always operated they loved you for the moment you were helping them until they suspected you of interferring with their personal gains, in which they assasinated you.
what made caesar evil?? why was the senate considered good? It was the Senate not Caesar who engaged in political assasination. btw Caesar exiled his political enemies instead of killing them or enslaving them, which is pretty civilized for its time. Anyway the Republic was on its way out because the senators were corrupt and were not efficient as they were intended to be.
Caesar was never loved by the aristocracy for a couple of reasons. he commanded a strong army and won almost all of his battles. Perhaps Caesar wanted to get things done in which the senate had failed to do. the Senate at that time only cared about personal gains. the short time in which caesar had controll he had began many projects to help the lower classes in terms of unemployment, living conditions, giving land in the form of bonuses to around 15,000 troops and cont.
he created the roman calender which we still use today, and he was loved by the people of rome. the only people threatened by him was the senate. imagine what he could have got done for rome if he wasnt assasinated. now if he was crazy and out of line like say nero or caligula, then he should have been removed but he wasnt! Caesar was a true patriot of rome.
The Senate Started the civil war, who are we kidding if Caesar returned without his army to rome he would have been prosecuted either being exiled or killed for no apparent reason other then the fact that he was a strong general. Labienus had no loyalty, if Labienus was loyal he would have stayed true to Caesar the way Marcus Agrippa and Mark Antony did.
Too bad according to most historians Labienus betrayed Caesar not because of loyalty to the Republic, but because he was jealous of Caesar and felt that HE should have gotten the glory instead.
i agree with xvin89x so was brutus.the reason brutus turn against caesar was because he was scare that caesar was gaining in power also he was jealous that mark antony was gaining trust from caesar then him.read some of the books.regrading caesar

If God doesn't exist, so do we. At any religion, they believe there is God, only in different names. In Islam: Allah, In Jews: Yahweh, In Christians: God.
believing in god or not does not change the fact that you are a productive member of society.....You always believe in something, whether in God, or yourself....but you should look at the big picture...what do you think will happen after you die? don't bother replying....
So you value statesmen such as Roosevelt and Lincoln little? Perhaps not Caesar or Octavian, but still great statesmen...
Cruthers, who says screen propagation of history needs be accurate? It rarely is, still you got to weigh it against the alternative. That vast masses of people who rarely if ever open a book would know even less. But yes, it could still have higher standards...
Which Roosevelt? The second obviously wasn´t important at all. And Lincoln, yes, he may be a good politician, as statesman you could compare him with Gracchus or Scipio Aemilianus.
So your saying we're classless Americans. Bud there are classless people left and right. From the bloods of downtown L.A. to the various gangs on the Aventine hill of Rome running the place. And smartness of generals has nothing to do with the day and age. General Washington, General Robert E. Lee, Gernal Lincoln, General George Patton, General Patraus fighting for us today.
Of course. And I almost forgot General Dougless McArthur. He could've conquered N.Korea and stopped it from being that brainwashed in the dark, home of an insane(seriously I think he's mentally ill) tyrant if that pussy Trueman hadn't stopped.
I would be interested in reading your finished thesis/book on this subject of the similarities of Rome and America. My major in college was history. Like you, I believe there is a metaphysical quality to History that on the surface may look like coincidence; but actually runs much deeper than dates, battles, biographies, etc. History has a continuity to it that you secondary school will not teach you. That, I believe, is the total point these comments fail to see.
But of course. The phrase "Those can not remember history are doomed to repeat it." Is without a doubt something we've failed to learn entirely. Because man will never learn from it's mistakes. At least most of them. Personally a reason I love to study history is because I can't stand the world of today we live in. If I could've picked another place or time to be born and live. It'd be Ancient Rome. But that's just me.
You people all misunderstand completely. Rome and the U.S.A. are incredibly similar. In fact I plan to write a college theses mabye even a short book on it. America like Rome was founded just like Ainleys says. And the city it self was founded by Latins, Eutruskans, and Greeks. A melting pot. Sound familiar? And of course we have men that have undoubtedly had a great impact on history. George Washington in a couple ways was like Caesar. A great general, who then leads his country.
and the fall of rome was economical curoption and letting barbarian imigrants into their countries and enstating them in the military for citizenship! sound familiar? mexican immigrants? illigal army division? economics?
Right. They went overboard with it. Caesar was a Civil Rights champion. But he practiced Civil Rights in a time that needed it. It was everyone after Caesar that took his ideas overboard and destroyed the great Rome.
This is so historically incorrect im not even gonna try and patch every mistake.
One thing though, Pompey was given soul consulship in 52 due to public violence. While consul he passed laws including making the act of standing in absentia illegal, forcing Caesar to come back to Rome were he would be prosecuted for acts done while consul in 59BC.
