well done laoshu...i'm doing an internship in tanzania this summer...no swahili background and you've done a great deal to get me on my feet and orient myself...before this it was just an indian langauge, latin, spanish, and obviously english...look forward to adding swahili
Great teacher! Kiswahili is a non tonal language with only 5 vowel sounds:
a, e, i, o, u
pronounced the same way as the spanish vowels.
Therefore a sound with a double vowel is just a prolonged version of the single vowel form. For example, the "ee" in the word "mzee" is pronounced as in the English word "lend" with a prolonged "e" sound and not as "mzii". And the "oo" in "shikamoo" is as a prolonged "o" of the English word "modern" and not as "shikamuu".
This is brillliant. Seriously. I study languages at university, speak around 5/6 languages, and I seldom see a video as good as this. Thank you very much. I've only seen this one and the first Swahili one so far, but I shall continue to look through what else you have.
One interesting thing I found: some words in Russian have the same meaning and phonetics as in Kiswahili. Ru(traslit)-Swa: Мама(Mama)-Mama, Чай(chai)-chai, Ананасы(ananasi)-mananasi...
nice, but i've never heard of the word nor have i ever heard anyone use the word "shikamoo" i'm not even sure if that's the right pronunciation. lol.btw the "zee" on mzee isn't pronouced like the way ze is on zebra, it's pronouced "Zeh" like "zeplin"(led zepllin) But anyway, i just happend to stumble into your vids and was suprised you had vids of my language. lol
haha.. This language is spoken in East Africa. You can find people who speak this language n Kenya, Tanzania and even many Somalians speak this language. Yea, compared to Vietnamese's pronunciation it's pretty easy. However, the grammar is a bit more complicated than Vietnamese. Thank for viewing my videos.
hey pretty "poa" ever! ..u make me wanna realy learn this language! sound pretty easy 2 pronoun! i'm always interested in languages! ...which county is that?

One last thing, the Kiswahilil letter 'j" is as strong as in the English words, "jungle", "jail" or "journey". It is not as in the French "j" sound.

It is also very important to note that that the stress of a word almost always falls on the next-to-last syllable, for example:
BAba, MAma, huJAmbo, siJAmbo, hatuJAmbo, hamJAmbo, hamjaMBOni, hawaJAmbo, NG'Ombe, shikaMOo, mZEe, mTOto, mazunguMzo, mwaLImu, mareKAni, mmareKAni. taAbu, mGUu, JiOni, asuBUhi, Ua, maUa, KWAnza, ZAa, kuZAa, Mbwa, MBWEha, NYUmba, nyuMBAni, SOko, soKOni, mLAngo, mlaNGOni, laAna.

Shikamoo is an actual greeting, but the "moo" is not pronounced like "moo", the way a cow goes "moo", but rather like "mo" as in "moat", but longer.
