  • @gabriellecj They are also unpopular with a majority of Australians. Climate change is a lie, and so is the "Stolen Generation." Keating was as socialist as they come. Howard cleaned his mess up. Thank God this hot air bag was voted out.

  • @atrophyfilms2012 dude, go live in a rock

  • Aborigines were not stolen, they were saved. Indonesian fishermen brought diseases, not the British. Cross generational guilt is fucking bullshit. I'm not responsible for the plight of Aborigines, neither is my daughter, my mother, or any other Australian. This speech was full of myth and racism.

  • I'm desperatly looking for the so famous "banana republic" remark on radio from Paul Keating, but can't find it anywhere on google, youtube, etc.

Any idea where I can find this ?

  • Glad its on here. Found it the other day in this course i was doing. Well done :)

  • Ha, Ha, Ha you Labor goons cheering the biggest enemy of the Australian Worker because he and Hawk lowered tarrifs productive Industries moved off-shore. Resulting in the decimation of Labor's support by Blue Collar Woorkers. Now Labor can only win Government with Greens in Government- LABOR in the Dust bin of history- thankyou rusted on saps for voting Hawk and Keating for 13 years .

  • @laborlosers you have absolutely no grip on Australian politics. Paul Keating was the best thing that ever happened to the Australian blue collar 'woorkers'

  • This is one of the most inspirational speeches ever made in Australia. It should be taught in schools and should remind Australians of what we can achieve when we have a leader who is not afraid to make decisions that may be unpopular with the dominant right wing. Well done Paul Keating. Where are you when we need you on climate change?

  • For all his reputation depending on his parliamentary performances, it is most striking to listen to how poorly Keating presented in formal speech making. This is boiler plate public speaking we are all used to at school awards nights and droning councilors at election time. The source of Keating's strength has always been his ability to believe that what he says is important because he himself has said it, part of the excitement he got from power. So on he drones in this very important speech.

  • @winifredatwell In John Edwards's official biography of Keating it is written that Paul was quite critical of his thin voice and oratory ability, and lamented that he didn't have the pipes of someone like Barry Jones.

I think you have to recognise a speech made on such a raw issue and that would contain admittances of pass wrongdoings of successive governments by the present PM... calls for a slightly different timbre.

  • @winifredatwell (continued) Notwithstanding Keating's perhaps lack of range to pull it off (as you contend), i don't think there is a lack of conviction. This is no sound and light show ala parliament where it's about one up manship; playing off each other in a contest of derision.

  • Check my name, people like Keating give me the Aussie pride.
