@northstar1950 Microphone technology was quite advanced in those times, and it was most likely to have been done "live". Some ambient studio noise can be heard during the playing, and you may notice no sudden change in the background sound level or tonality when the lady announcer comes into shot and speaks. It would be interesting if a BBC studio engineer from those days was around to let us know for certain. I suspect the slight lip-synch problem is due to the transfer method from the original
@northstar1950 This isn't the TV show. It's a film about it, as evidenced by the picture and sound quality and the camera shots, which were not possible in the TV studio. My older sister went to see the film. The performers are miming. The real show was pretty primitive. Existing tapes of the show are very grainy. I recognised one of the "kids" dancing as an up and coming actor who became a star in the early 60's. I wish I could remember his name. It was Alfie something.
I remember being at Butlins in 1957, We Will Make Love was No. 1, I can just about remeber this song. But the Butlings fourtnight was magic. Well Missed. Thanks for the post ....
this is Classic Stuff .. I remember it so very well ... love this sound from way back .. and Don Lang was one of the Biggest stars from that time ... wow love it ... xx thanx so much for this great post ... Lyndloo..
russ hamilton, there was some bizzare stories about him floating around in the late 1950s like he had won Purple Heart in Korea and had bought hitlers yacht this was to premote him in the states, but in reality he didnt even own a bike and got ripped off, he made a couple more singles and an lp but pretty much gave up.
He died 11th october 2008 without a penny to his name and had a co-op funeral and a paupers grave in wales
Thanks for posting lmj22. I didnt realise that the special had started as early as 57/58. I thought it was a bit later. I saw jack good interviewed a couple of times and he seemed a very witty man who knew what the kids wanted , but was severely restricted by Aunty Beeb steam radio policy. Aunty Beeb would have been happy to have a blue peter/crackerjack clone with some skiffle and bert weedon and wally whyton as a sop to the pop demanding kids. Jack Good realised this and left the beep asap!
Don Lang represented an interesting transition from trad jazz to rock and roll with his trombone-fronted rock music. Trad retained a toehold for many years with bands such as Kenny Ball and Acker Bilk, nurturing the likes of Ginger Baker in its ranks.
I love the 'mean' look the guy tries on when he rocks it up a bit for a few seconds at 3:56
Great times...so long ago now it seems. Thanks for this.

Russ said he has never even been to Korea. He certainly has been cheated of a fortune being such a star.

Fantastic video of Russ Hamilton. Anyone has any other rare video of his life performances?

Is that Pete Murray dancing?
These were great times !!This was the beginning of my musical education.
Just think how much more professional it would have been with today's studio technique!
