@Tiger1046 if the book says you are to finish manouver with you cab on an angle then if you don't ,you fail.yes he would be blocking the street but you are not on a street. If the inspector says you are to do this and that ,if you don't do it in the required amount of time, you fail. I am a former truck driving school instructor.
I respect the fact that people have to do what the instructor tells them to do or else they fail. Truck driving school costs a lot of money and I would not think twice about doing exactly what the instructor wants me to do. If I parked my truck in such a manor that other cars have to maneuver around me and an accident occurs it would be my fault. A blind side parallel park is not a practical maneuver, and very rarely used if at all. Just looks good. my 2 cents...
@Tiger1046 you have to remember one thing. this manouver is being done in a controlled situation. like you stated it is not practical. it is a manouver to make you use your mirrors.there have been times when I have had to parallel park. you think your under pressure trying to back up to cones try backing up to another truck.
I guess it comes with different driving habits if this maneuver is useful or not. I have to do this type of parking all the time but only while backing into docks with other vendor trucks in the way. I drive for Pepsi it gets crowded in the back of the stores. But you are right, it is good practice to get used to backing blind side either way, I don;t know why the instructor would make this a requirement and i just hope he didn't tell the student this is the proper way to park.
@Tiger1046 I have been driving for 35yrs + I have only parallel parked several times in my career but if I didn't know how to I would just pull up and stop where I was. It is a move to get the driver to use his mirrors more than a parking move.
FAIL! He didn't get the tractor in there.

Anybody know what the cone spacing would be for a straight truck, say a 24' box truck?
timin770 8 months ago
nice job but in massachusetts that would fail. you need the whole truck strait. you cant have the tractor sticking out like that.

If that was a real street, he would be blocking traffic. I do believe he should have lined up the whole rig.

Fair enough, I can see that being a good way to practice.
