lol. yeah seems weird but really long story short, in the game the boss has the ability to set any living thing on fire if it gets so close to it. that's why. it's been so long since i played the game so i dont remember all the details. but your main character aya is able to resist the boss.

Mitochondria, the organelles in the cells that produce ATP(the main source of energy for the cells). In the game Eve or the being she gives birth to is able to control the mitochondria in other living things. Basically they burst into flames because all the mitochondria in their bodies go apeshit all at once causing an extreme amount of heat, enough to burst anything living thing into flames. It's been a few years since I've played the game but I'm pretty sure thats the jist of it.

If you play the game, you'll understand why, but the easiest way to explain it is that the giant booger looking monster has what's called mitochondria(everyone has it), but the monster has a high enough level of it for normal people who enter the barrier of it can instantly catch flame, but the woman(Aya) has the same or higher level of it, and she's able to control her mitochondria. (I've beaten this game and it's sequel a few times, I'm a nerd.) =]
