Where did those whistles come from? It's not on my CD. I don't really like it. The song is still amazing though. I like today's top 40, but I really miss songs like this.
Okay, lemme get this straight -- sexy-ass Vanessa Williams is begging her ex to attend a no-strings-attached Let's F#^& For Old Time's Sake party. I would not have a problem telling Vanessa yes to this request.
I could spend hours listening to and watching Vanessa Williams. If I could only take the work of just one artist with me somewhere (let's say) if I were lost on an island-- short of taking the real woman, (smile) Vanessa would be that artist. How can one person, one woman be blessed with so much magic? Her music and beauty are what dreams are made of. It doesn't matter which song of hers you listen to. They're all examples of the highest level of artisanship with class sweetness and perfection.
@r3i6nm8n Same here. I hate that we still live in a society that condemns people for expressing all their sides. Women have a side that wants to break a chair over someone's head. Men have a side that wants to cry when a song catches them off guard. It's 2011--we need to get past this nonsense. This song is haunting.
This is the type of song that really makes you feel something. Really make you want to be in love. The kind of music you make love to. What happened to the good music of yesteryear??
i love this song. The Comfort Zone album was my favorite as a small child. This particular song is the definition of "We're breaking up but I still love you."
Vanessa Williams' extraordinary singing on the usually 'painful to watch' talent portion of the Miss America Pageant was probably what ultimately sealed her win. Who knew she would turn out to be such a huge force in the recording industry?
Rick Fox let this go? His new girl doesn't even come close. Dude, seriously?! And she's so classy that she turned down money for a tell-all about her ex husbands. THAT is a classy woman.
I'm a transgender woman and I have always been told that I look like Vanessa Williams or a little bit better. My eyes are naturally a bluish-grey and when I used to perform onstage, I used to perform this song. I also used to perform Comfort Zone, Sweetest Days, and Darlin' I. She is one of the most talented and gorgeous singer ever.
Isn't there a longer version of this tune? I could've sworn that when I asked my friend Stephanie, she said that the version she had on a cassette single was longer than the album version. Where in this world can I find it?
I'm VERY glad youtube finally allowed users to exclude captions because, honestly, they were very distracting while watching the videos, especially one as stunning as this one.
Anyway, thank you for uploading! I really love this video--Vanessa has always been a great beauty but add her voice and you just have one hell of a stunner. She can do pretty much everything and anything...more than a quadruple threat.
Wow, never saw this particular video. I have to agree with some of the comments here. Vanessa is far more beautiful and interesting to watch AND listen to than our current crop of auto-tuned monstrosities - Gaga, K Perry, Kesha, Rihanna et al...And while Beyonce is clearly talented, she seems rather soulless in comparison doesn't she?
@Fussy64 There are artists today that have talent and could produce music as beautiful as this. But the pop music world is being by execs who do not understand music, but more of advertising and sales.
Another beautful song from another beautiful singer. Here's some fun facts, in either May or June of 1992 this video entered at number 19 on the VH1 top 21 countdown, peaked at number 3, spent eight weeks on the countdown and finished in at number 37 on the year end top 50 countdown.
@StarX81 Absolutety! Amazing music. I have said it before and will say it again. She is from the era where you have to go there to know there.... She has been in some hurtful situations.... and has managed to bring it to this forum... As the saying goes.... You have to go there.. to know there... it is for those of thus that have been there that she sings..................
I wish I still had this radio mix that is not found on any CD. I used to have it on a promo CD that was released to a radio station I worked at. It's a step up from the CD version but it's still a great song.
@sflachuck we blinked and damnit T and A all over the place...with autotune voices.But that is why we have videos Ipods and CDs-I had to replace this album twice.Once because I played the hell out of it the second one was because someone took it.Trolls!
On June 2, 2009, she released her 8th studio album on Concord Records, titled The Real Thing. It features songs written and/or produced by Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Bebel Gilberto, and Rex Rideout. The album is " a hybrid of samba, bossa nova, some salsa and also some pop and R&B" says Williams.
I so MISS the songs of the 90's!! Very few songs are as good as they were. I will admit some songs are catchy, and fun to listen too. But they will never NEVER compare to the songs of the 90's when music was good and a CD was worth buying.
What a great song. I forgot about it when I then heard it again in a store. It brought back memories of losing the love of my life and wishing that I had one more chance to make it right. If only life were like a song...

Wow. Such confidence. I always liked the song "Save the Best for Last" but watching this video has made me a Vanessa Williams fan. Her voice is amazing, and she is soo beautiful and poised.
I never realized how much I liked Vanessas music until I started listening to it again. DAMN she is good. DSD, I agree, todays "artist" just cant compare to her...
I wish the current crop of female singing "stars" had this kind of style, talent, ability and grace. Instead, we get people like "Lady GaGa", whose best work seems to be saying "My Poker Face" over and over.
@iFauxPas I understand what DSDunlap72 is saying though. This was part of the Top 40 nearly 20 years ago, and now we have really mind numbing songs like Poker Face that is so repetitive that hits number 1 on Billboard. In a nut shell we were spoiled back then. The quality and style that pop culture accepted back then was far more superior then what is accepted today.
I'd have to disagree. Different? Definitely. Superior? Maybe but that's a personal opinion. Songs like Poker Face are only what's popular at the moment just like how songs like this one were in it's day. Different types of music go in and out of style with the generations. I can guarantee that there will be plenty of people who will hate what becomes the next popular genre. It's less about declining quality and more about personal taste.
@iFauxPas I don't know if you are a musician or not, but for me coming from a musical background and discipline appreciates all the different intricacies in a musical piece. I can tell you that sounds of today (Lady Gaga) is very manufactured with beats and melody that are repetitive and predictable. Personal taste maybe, but the music industry is driven by high powered marketing plans and return on investment creating this artificial popularity. Back then music fans determined what was good.
I have somewhat of a musical background and I get where you're coming from. Music fans still determine what is good in the sense that industries produce what they know will sell and "repetitive beats," unfortunately, have a knack for sticking in people's minds. Gaga isn't really the best example for your case though since she actually has real talent and oversees all artistic direction on her own music which is much more than what could be said about a lot of today's artists.
@iFauxPas Lady Gaga does have musical talent and has more potential to produce material that rivals any work from the 90s. I saw her do a brief intro on Ellen and she demonstrated that by adding a jazzier side to Poker Face. However, Lady Gaga is still a puppet in the music industry in that she is motivated by reaching for the fans' pocket books, instead of their hearts. Music execs have in mind on the type of music to be distributed. Does Gaga really have control or direction? Not really.
Under the assumption of what you claim to be true, who's to say that the music industry was any different back then? What is so different about the way the industry is run now that supposedly makes it "worse" than it was before? Music like this still exists. It didn't go away, it just isn't what is popular at this moment in time. That is why I believe that current popular music is just one of the many phases that music has gone and will continue to go through.
@iFauxPas You make a good point on this. I live in Seattle where there is a rich history of music, and was unaware of the many RnB artists that were undiscovered in the 60s/70s. They produced music IMHO that rivaled Motown. What makes it so different for today is that we have so many media options/devices that distributes music to the masses via the internet and mobile. The reach to consumers is much more accessible than ever before. Music seems like it is spoon fed to us now.
I surprised this wasnt a James Bond theme for a movie. Im also surprised that Vanessa Williams wasnt a Bond girl She looks like she would make a great bond girl. Lol her name should be Zoe or Selita Oxana lol something sexy and exotic lolz.
I too bought everything from this woman when she first came on the scene, from tapes, cd's, remixes, vinyl originals...I think at one point I wanted to marry her! LOL...Still a fan!!!
It's hard to realize we've said our last good byes,

I wish the current crop of female singing "stars" had this kind of style, talent, ability and grace. Instead, we get people like "Lady GaGa", whose best work seems to be saying "My Poker Face" over and over.

Lady Gaga is a different kind, she more about the avante gaurd so your assumption doesn't stand up.

@DSDunlap72
Vanessa and Gaga's styles (and especially this song and Poker Face) are way too different to make an accurate comparison.

@islandbee

@islandbee
I have somewhat of a musical background and I get where you're coming from. Music fans still determine what is good in the sense that industries produce what they know will sell and "repetitive beats," unfortunately, have a knack for sticking in people's minds. Gaga isn't really the best example for your case though since she actually has real talent and oversees all artistic direction on her own music which is much more than what could be said about a lot of today's artists.
iFauxPas 1 year ago
@iFauxPas Lady Gaga does have musical talent and has more potential to produce material that rivals any work from the 90s. I saw her do a brief intro on Ellen and she demonstrated that by adding a jazzier side to Poker Face. However, Lady Gaga is still a puppet in the music industry in that she is motivated by reaching for the fans' pocket books, instead of their hearts. Music execs have in mind on the type of music to be distributed. Does Gaga really have control or direction? Not really.

@islandbee

@islandbee
Good point. Music is literally everywhere now.

@iFauxPas I hope for consumers sake you're right.
