Randy's was a record store that 1st opened in the mid to late 60s in Jamaica. They were the most popular record store on the island. All major releases and indie records were distributed there. There is a 50th anniversary album that's out that profiles many of the hits that Randy's popularized and distributed. They're no longer in operation. They're like the Motown of Jamaica!! Hope that helps.
yep eek-a-mouse , yellowman, Billy boyo and little john were the first (although not accredited) rappers. when the sounds started to filter through from JA to new york The sugar hill Mob/Grand master Flash were the first to pick up on it
so what happened to u-roy, king stitt,king machuki,u-brown,lone ranger,brigadier jerry,ray-i,trinity,al capone,scotty,trevor ranking,bojangles,ranking joe,prince jazzbo,clint eastwood,dillinger,sister nancy,althea and donna,lady junie,sister carol,general echo and a whole heep more before the 4 you mentioned
Yup that is Brother Jestus dancing. there is also a video on youtube of Dennis Brown having an outside concert in the 70's and Bredda Jestus was on stage dancing next to Dennis. He was a known abstract dancer in the 70's and a studio rat. Always hanging out at neighborhood studio's.
Only god knows whatever happened to him. He just slowly fizzled away out of sight. I heard that he moved to America and became a crackhead but i don't know how true it is.
it used to be like that in Aquarius Records in Half Way Tree right beside Skateland propa tings pure vibes in the 90s,but when it moved to the plaza across the road it all fizzled out
long b4 chris brown we saw dancers who were not choreographed, but none the less demonstrated grace, style& fluidity. this bredren is not even a man you could classify as "young", yet if chris was around in his day, chris would be brought to shame. a lot of talent was around in jamaica in the 70s, but sadly the moves were not recorded or documented. dance moves like these were not seen anywhere in the usa in those days, but look at the moves that americans are using now. you be the judge.
it's the same with rap music. What is an MC was a deejay - and what is a DJ was a selector. Soundsystems in Jamaica set the stage for rap in the Bronx.
One of the reasons I love YouTube. Coming across a clip like this and discovering other people loving the same scene/clip or what ever. Rockers is one of my all time favs. Great Post!

I think you mistake Pablo with Kiddus I. Don't feel bad they do resemble each other. The song is Graduation in Zion

is it just me or , were all the redeemable qualities of hip hop (graffitti not included) actually ripped from reggae /dancehall culture?
undermislengteng 2 years ago 7
hip hop is the son of reggae,
you are not trippin...
Everything hip hop did, was taken from reggae culture.
plus, kool herc, the DJ who is credited for creating hip hop is FROM JA and he brought the sound system and MC to new york.

The three things in this film I've always wanted to do;
* Dance into a record shop like that
* Wear a tank top over a tracksuit, and get away with it
* Sit in a shit pub listening to a rubbish DJ, shout "I AND I WILL CHANGE THE MOOD" and take his decks over.
