Don't listen to the *American* commentator for starters, he's obviously ignorant of the offside rule and is drawing the attention to the moment the ball is received! Isnt the advantage suppose to go to the striker when they are in line with the defender? only his head was offside therefore it should have been allowed!

after looking at and inspecting the video slowly..he was off side..when the ball was played luca toni was slightly forward ..maybe by a few inches...fantastic call lines man!
I don't know the official ruling but, the player contacting the ball is onside. If the other player puts Italy offside then France should have had their goal against Brazil over ruled for similar occasion

Toni wasn't offside, the other Italian player was. I'm not sure of the rule but I think it's the person who receives the ball that has to be offside for the call to occur.
Toni only needed any part of his body closer to Barthez goal to have goal disallow. It's a very close call. But who to you give the benefit to? Attacker or defender? Not exactly a bad call.
It was onside. The AR couldn't see it clearly, so don't blame him too much. Considering that the first penalty was a diver by Malouda and afterwards the foul by Zambrotta hasn't been given, to me it's clear that Italy should have won by 2-1.
you can't argument that way. IF the ref had not give france the penalty, the whole game would total different, nobody who would score and when. the same goes for the other mistakes of the ref. but i am very happy that italy had won.
Off side. Toni and de Rossi were very close to each other, it wasn't clear in the moment of passing who will get the ball. Am I right ? (I am not French).
