  • why you compare? "oh, stevie's original is better, this guy sucks" i mean, we all know that john is never going to replace stevie, but im tired of people saying that bullshit of his covers.

  • hes a shredder but stevies is more better

  • SRV would be fuckin' proud

  • Straight fucking legend!

  • its all love, no need to compare.

  • they are both great, but John is not trying to show up SRV, he is paying homage. If your going to play someone else's song, you better do your best to represent it! - Checkout SRV play Lenny at El Mocambo, untouchable!

  • this is absolutely amazing

  • too pretentious.

  • to bad hes a sell out

  • @shannyshanny123 Are you aware of what the term '' Sell out '' means my friend ?? You do realize when it comes to musicians/artists who are sell outs, your talking (examples) like Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Coldplay?? Mayer is FAR from what you call a sell out man. In no way has he alienated his original fans from the start, for more mainstream exposure or money. Just thought you should know that..

  • @azza1356 Agreed. Personally, I think that if anything, Mayer was more pop-oriented (some see that as selling out, I won't comment, it's your business what you thing) at the beginning of his career and he has gotten purer and closer to his influences as time has gone on. Try! and Continuum are both great albums that show him incorporating his influences in an original manner. Battle Studies didn't quite do that in my opinion, but he's still early in his career. We'll see.

  • @LouieLand What you think, not what you thing. My mistake.

  • @LouieLand I can say that I too agree with your reply. Yes, some people do see that as selling out but I strongly disagree with all that bullshit. After all, Jimi was popULAR, so too SRV. As for the other things you stated, there very true also. Room For Squares, Heavier Things and Continuum ( IMO ) are solid albums at the best. I don't particularly think that Battle Studies cut the mustard, although hey, their are some pretty decent songs on that as well. Looking forward to the next.

  • haters should shut up :) a cover is called a frigin cover for a reason.

  • I really doubt John is trying to top SRV, y cant it just be a good good guitar player today is just playing some SRV is all

  • fantastic tone

  • you kids and weird old cats or "ooh i know everything about everything cause i work at a music shop" type people or whatever the hell you are suck at being judges and dont know what your talkin about. they're all bitchin guitarists. and your negative comments mean dogshit.

  • Okay, so, standing on it's own merits, this isn't bad.

But, it almost seems like he's trying to out-Stevie Ray Stevie Ray.

Which makes it seem more than a little tacky. It's kinda like Stevie Ray's cover of Lightnin' Skyhop, but at least Stevie Ray changed the title to Rude Mood.

  • @HoleHeadedLiar How is he trying to out shine Srv? He just made a kickass cover, because he thinks the song is fun to play.. If he was a unknown artist, i doubt you would be saying the same thing..

  • @OscarZielke No, I'd say the same thing about a four year old playing 'Lenny' this way.

It borrows and leans on several phrases from Stevie Ray's original, but, the bulk of the song is John Mayer just noodling about.

If you'll re-read my comment, you'll see that I said that, this, standing on it's own merits was fine, but that it was more or less like Stevie Ray Vaughan's Rude Mood, which was just Stevie Ray out-doing Lightnin' Hopkins' song Lightnin' Sky Hop.

  • as a guitarist for 16 yrs i say this was a great rendition with his own flava flave..great

  • fantastic. Love me some sweet srv, good job john mayer, much respect.

  • @0:07 never thought i'd see john play a PRS

  • Great great great fuckin great!

  • this tone is just beyond words

  • You all that are arguing: you are not guitar players, are you? Because if you were then you would know that to pick a SRV's song and play it note by note is hard, but to pick one and input your flavor and identity to it, no matter what it is, requires a hell of guitarist! John isn't trying to become the new SRV, he know sbetter than all of us that it ain't gonna happen, he just loves him since he was a kid, before fame and everything else, and that's the reason he plays his songs!

  • @lucascopin thankyou damnit

  • @lucascopin

i play guitar and this version done by mayer of SRV's is utter crap compared to SRV he does not play it note for note he has ZERO of the energy in this recording compared to SRV, mayer is a pop player, just cause he plays some stuff that ' sounds kinda like' the blues doesnt make it The Blues, the blues is more than just a genre or a musical idiom.

  • @Lincoln424242 it's an opinion, but my intention was to show that there's no point in comparing versions or artists, and you just did that. As a musician, you gotta respect a good musician even if you're not a fan, that's what i think. I agree with you about "The Blues", but there's a lot of shit nowadays in the music industry and a lot of fake crap, shouldn't we give a chance to someone who's playing good stuff and that actually loves it, even if he's into pop too?

  • @lucascopin

To me hes not playing 'the good stuff' when he'tries' to playthe blues here , i get the impression hes a pop star who is trying for a larger audience by adding 'some blues notes' to his otherwise pop playing, imo. i dont care for trying to hope for new artists to make good stuff i juts look back to the good stuff mainly the 70's the good stuff nowdays isnt in the music industry.

  • @Lincoln424242 as I see it, it's the other way around. JM is a blues guitarist, who plays pop music for a living, and blues music for the real passion. theres some recordings on YT when he was playing for 3-4 years. No pop-influence to be heard in those recordings. He plays pop to get his name out there and money, and tries to put things of blues etc into the pop music as much as he can, while still reaching the biggest audience possible. When he plays pop, he heavily compromises.

  • @Lincoln424242 in other words, he's not adding blues notes to his pop music, but adding ALOT of pop to his blues notes. If you didn't already, I advice you to buy and listen to his where the light is concert. I promise you won't regret it. On that concert, he also makes a clear distinction of the styles he plays: acoustic, JM3 and the pop hits. it's great!

  • @C3L3B3R what PRS is that?

  • @Deftybenth se hollow

  • did john mayer play this on the PRS in the picture?

  • @Deftybenth no, its obviously a fender strat

  • @ TheGuitarslinger94 Why will SRV always be the better guitar player. He's dead and john has the rest of his life to get better. In my opinion he already is...

  • look fellas, stevie played on 12 guage strings...mayer plays on 9s..this is part of the reason they dont sound the same, plus stevie just had more soul. Mayer is good , no doubts there, but when it comes to playing the blues...mayer just doesnt have it like Stevie did. Hes a cheap immatation of SRV. A long line of millions that have copied him, and no one has done it right!

  • @72padawan hey man i saw an interview with rene martinez and he said that srv played 13s but then they settled on 11s that srv could still get the same tone, i play 11s on my strat and i know many others who do, and no one can get the srv tone and no one should try because it is something that can only come from his fingers, i still love john mayer too though haha

  • @JPandthesmokeybones Fat strings and Gibson jumbo frets...can you say strong hands?

  • @ThePetrohaulic no doubt man haha

  • John seem to concentrate on the scales instead of the soul. He is obviously a great artist but perhaps lack tha something to put him at the top. Jeff Healey is one of those other guitarists nobody can seem to get quite right.

  • To much over exaggerated bullshit, definitly not SRV. other then that, sounds good

  • why must we compare!! he did an amazing job!

  • @rgl3ma57 a much better job than jesus did conveying his message to the world. As I look more into John Mayer, I gain a deeper respect for his talent. That being said, you don't hear SRV playing waiting on the world to change.

  • @Unemployedbillionair whats your point? just because SRV wouldn't play waiting on the world to change doesn't make it a bad song does it? i didn't think so

  • @rgl3ma57 sounds like you already have the answer to the question you asked me...next time, you don't have to ask.

  • No knock on John, but the original simply has more soul. Glad to know a current artist still thinks enough of SRV to pay homage however.

  • JESUS!!!!!!!

    John plays a PRS guitar!!!!!!!!!

  • John Mayer is Awesome for even trying SRV!! Has anyone else?

  • why does there have to be an arguement on every youtube video?

  • A bit boring.

  • Mayer is simply a genius, cause in his covering he's always original and and he attempts to reinterpret the pieces in his own way, always...For me he's the best living guitarist in the world.

  • @antosrv

you need to expand your horizons a bit more...

  • If we are being totally serious here, John Mayer has become a better guitarist than SRV was. There is no debate. None. Sorry to all you derp de ders.

  • technically this is live at the x-lounge but hey ;)

  • If Stevie Ray Vaughan's (now John's) guitar tech said that he thinks that John Mayer is a great player and can do this song justice...that's all the confirmation in the world that you need.

  • why is srv better? because he's dead and you guys are giving him way more credit? if he were alive he'd say "back the fuck off. hold my beer and watch this." then proceed to do what he does.

  • If you fucktards thought this was SRV playing it and not john, most of you guys would be like "oh what a wonderful version of this song and "this is why SRV is the best"... John mayer is great, SRV is great. Jimi, probably the greatest

  • Damn, you guys are freakin' ignorant. In music it's not about who is better. People trying to compare musicians like that don't know what they are talking about and probably do not understand the essence music at all.

  • sounds like some exercise,

  • in all honesty i think its a disgrace to SRV yea sure Mayer was influenced but have not heard his music its nothing like this but in the end yea pretty good cover

  • @xXOFAXx Come on man, it's great. Do you really think if SRV were here today he'd be sitting back going ''Man, that Mayer cover is such a disgrace to me and my music.''? Just enjoy it, it's beautiful.

  • this is awesome, its a nice little tribute to SRV :)

  • the original of lenny will always be more soul invested but John did a nice cover of this. It's a shame he got known off his other poppy stuff because he has some skills if he would've came up with his own jams but I get it because im sure blues isn't a huge new music genre that's popping right now.

  • @mixwell1983 john mayer has many songs that are bluesy in nature ha :P look up vultures, who did you think i was, and pretty much anything off of his continuum album :p

  • wannabe

  • @KARENK72886 He already is.

  • @NunoDuarte7 I mean he will never be as good as...no offence...he plays well, but...

  • @KARENK72886 He doesnt' want to be. The fascinating about him is that he tried to be Hendrix/SRV back when he was learning how to play guitar and he created this new way of playing it. He created a new style, which is even better than being a copy of...Believe me, I play guitar and I love this guy's playing, maybe it's a taste thing, but NO ONE plays the way that he does, he has some interesting approach to the instrument which I think it's amazing. For me, it's the 00's Hendrix.

  • Comment removed

  • @KARENK72886 Sure ! It's your opinion and I respect it (even if it didn't seem like it) :)

  • @NunoDuarte7 SWEEEET, I know what u mean! :) have a good day!

  • @KARENK72886 You too :)

  • @NunoDuarte7 he's entitled to do that, I'm entitled to my opinion, as you are too! No problemo!

  • @NunoDuarte7

    how can you say that?

  • @Lincoln424242 I have ears.

  • can ya'll stfu? seriously, srv will always be the better guitar player but that doesen't mean john is horrible? john is an absolute amazing musician, and this is a a great cover, not as good as the orginal but this isn't that bad.

  • Is that a PRS? I've never seen Mayer play a guitar that looks like that.

  • srv is probably up in the sky wondering how the fuck this no talent ass clown gets away with this

  • @5O4evr wow thats some stubborn ass talk. i promise you that hes just glad that people like his music enough to cover it.todays pop culture never gets subjected to good music anymore and im sure their are thousands of people who looked up srv or jimi after seeing mayer cover a song of theirs. and realized how great the oldies are. i hate most new music im all for the originals and oldies but cmon to say hes a no talent clown. few people can even play guitar, very few play it well.

  • @5O4evr are you better than JM? highly doubt it...but if so go be famous and stop toolin around on youtube...dick

    gotta love jealousy

  • the cool thing about stevie ray vaughn is, you can listen to a cover of one of his songs, and its like " wow , that was pretty good" , then you listen to stevie play it and your like , "oh wait, no, i was wrong, stevies still untouchable". try it

  • @comngetsome all about the touch! not comparing SRV to EVH...but its the same w/ his stuff...you can hear yourself play something from either of those guys and think its right..then listen to them play it and want to put down your guitar forever...srv just had magic in his hands and that fender tone to back it up

  • @dalstar925 wrong, van halen wasnt really that good of a guitarist. he did a lot of finger tapping and appreggios (which arent that hard), and tried his hardest to make it sound complicated. vh music was shit. not that you were trying to compare them, but if you werent trying to compare them, you shouldnt have even mentioned van halen/hagar, whatever they were. bottom line,,,, stevie = talent, art, beauty, eargasms for the rest of time. vh= crap, stupid hair, played out lame ass songs

  • @comngetsome well i wasn't aware you were the foremost expert on guitar players. 1st of all i was ONLY mentioned evh b/c they r both sounds that guitar players try to emulate. i realize how simple his a lot of his stuff is even for playing so fast. didn't you read the last sentence in my comment up there? did i say anything about evh being magic? no. i prefer srv too but i'm not gonna discount evh

just curious though...whats it feel like to be so closed minded?

  • @dalstar925 magic? what the fuck are you talking about, who said anything about magic. to satisfy your curiosity, wait till i pull my dick out your mom and see if your head will fit in her ass

  • @comngetsome good comeback internet superman! haha what a douchebag..."comngetsome"? are you one of those guys that wears tapout and thinks you're a badass b/c you WATCH ufc? drive a camaro or a mustang? live in a trailer? get a life...or better yet end it

  • @dalstar925 thanks! no im not living in a trailer, i dont like tapout and i dont drive a camaro or mustang. but you are correct on the douchebag assumption. tell your mom i said hi, and ask her if i can have my boxers back. freaky bitch likes smelling my ass

  • @comngetsome could have fooled me as you seem like quite the "internet superman" (by that i mean one who talks trash on the computer b/c they're too much of a bitch to in real life). by the way the "your mom" thing was played out like 10 years ago. its not even funny anymore. get some new material and come at me when you have something funny to say..until then stop wasting my time and go get some counseling for your abused childhood..sorry your parents were beat you little guy! :)

  • @dalstar925 ouch, that guy should just stop replying now...

  • @mredline1 lol sadly i doubt that'll happen

  • @dalstar925 u still on my dick? now be a good little bitch of mine and reply. by replying you just show how bad u want this dick. besides, u n i both know if i told you where to find me ud never come lookin. here, well try,,,,, i bounce down at powerplant in bmore. just walk into angels, and ask for handsome, if ya really wanna find out how much of a pussy i am. aint nothin between us but air and oppurtunity. maybe u could bring ur boyfriend and u can both find out what the pavement tastes like

  • @comngetsome haha i knew somethin had to be fueling your "my dick is bigger than yours" complex..sorry you're not intelligent enough to be anything other than a bouncer or have a good comeback. i bounced at bars in charlotte when i was 18 throwing grown men like you who THINK they are tough out on their asses. now i have a real job..i got btter things to do than come to your little rainbow bar in baltimore. it'd b hard to tell which drag queen you were..and besides i don't hit women ;)

  • @comngetsome oh and "blah blah blah...i'm a wannabe thug" "i'm so tough i'll make you taste pavement" "boogie boogie boogie!!!" go lick your wounds dude...you won't win...you just look like an idiot for trying

  • @dalstar925 refer to the third and fourth sentence of my last comment.

  • @comngetsome oh those were sentences? i just thought they were empty threats...whoops...silly me for misunderstanding you! hahaha...not once have i threatened you either..like you have me multiple times...but i'll let you feel like a tough guy...since thats all you could come up w/ i guess you're running out of material...so i'll be nice...go get laid or something and get a real job

  • @dalstar925 damn dude, your still on my dick??

  • @comngetsome it's actually you're (as in you are)..but if you were even remotely intelligent you'd already know that..and if thats all you've got for a comeback you really should just consider giving up..or are you too fucking stupid to understand that also? go back to your (thats how you use "your" properly) trailer, tie yourself to a chair, and light it on fire...i'm tired of talking to you, you're (you are) not even fun to make fun of anymore because you say the same shit..now fuck off

  • @dalstar925 WOW,,, STIL RIDN MI DIKK. must be good, move over let your mom have some

  • @comngetsome you are a faggot. shut up and listen to the song dick. and don't say anything about your dick. cause i'm not on it, nor will anyone ever be on it. you're (you are) just a scum fag. so get the fuck off of dalstar925's dick. you fag. by the way, you're (YOU ARE) A FAG. peace :)

  • @JoeDrums3 ohh shit ,,, no way,,, another one wants my dick, okay okay, theres plenty to go around, now be my bitch and write back,,,, bitch

  • @comngetsome oh my god. lol this is so funny how your getting mad. i read all your comments and honestly laughed cause i feel so bad for you. now be MY bitch and write back saying yet another thing about your dick that you think you have. and use a period. i mean you of all people should know a thing or two about periods.

  • @JoeDrums3 wow,,, thats probably the most original come back ever. you used my line, as if it were your own, against me. epic failure

  • @comngetsome LOL. you're so pathetic. please write back cause i'm getting good laughs off of this.

  • @comngetsome what a tool

  • John uses prs!?

  • Thanks chaferbud

  • No matter how many hours I try perfecting the lick, 0:57 will forever elude me.. lol

  • You wear diapers, and your mom's tit is dripping get the keyboard and the air guitar and go write a song instead of telling how easy it is to copy...... oh nevermind , you have been playing uitar 25 years and STILL HAVENT MADE A NAME FOR YOURSELF....biug fat titty wit a nip on top.

  • gets kinda sloppy to be showing off around :57

  • @roxyrockinrolling Haha man he missed like two notes and hit an open string. No one's perfect, but it's still damn good! Although I noticed the same thing listening to it

  • Hy guys could you let me know what you think of my rendition of lenny, I hope you like it, please comment, I put a lot of sweat/bleat into this song over the years. thanks

  • I was the guy who taught John how to play..

  • @joe1969812 go talk to John Mayer :) no one teaches people how to be that good. there is only so much some one can teach you..

  • @732brudder And what am l talking to him about? l guess l should've put lol at the end of that comment, but as far as somebody gettin lessons and being that good, l think you should re think that one.

  • @joe1969812 It has been a while you clueless idiot, but I am going to make a reply. Are you really sitting at you computer and telling me that you can teach someone to play at that level musically? I sure hope not.

  • @732brudder I've played a fucking guitar 25 yrs and l know without a doubt you can be taught to play at that level. And that shit that he was just playing is something that doesnt even require lessons, but thats why theres 12 blues prodigys because blues is primative music, you never see a 12 yr old jazz prodigy, and thats why, it takes a little knowledge to play it. Why dont you stick to something you know about, like playing video games or wacking off and dont tell me about guitars.

  • @joe1969812 say what?

  • @joe1969812 well you must have not learned too much in 25 years......

  • @101290ajs Why is that? l've never had a lesson in my life and if you think JM is great then you'd think l was too. You can be taught to play a guitar, paul Gibert was taught to play, Steve Via too, but John Mayer wasnt right? l can outplay all of you girly boys and that good enough for me.

  • @joe1969812 i dont think he's great but obviously he is better than you or you would be famous already. Who cares if you had lessons or not if you're good then you're good, and im glad you can outplay us all. Can we get this guy a trophy?

  • @101290ajs Bitch just shut up, the only reason your running your mouth is because your on the internet.

  • @101290ajs

being popular has little to do with being a good musician its a general formula that the more skilled you are the less popular you are and vice versa, why do you have to be a douche/ joe is making valid points and your just being a douche

  • @joe1969812 You can't change minds over the computer so stop trying.

  • @joe1969812

Good point about never seeing young jazz players

  • @joe1969812

    Suck ur dad mate.

  • @Carthsgtr ls that how you do it where you come from keyboard warrior? l'm sorry l pissed off john mayers # 1 fag fan. And he DID go to music school and l taught him.

  • @joe1969812

You are a fucking idiot as well.

  • @Carthsgtr Long live the keyboard warrior!

  • @Carthsgtr Also check out Monte Montgomery's Sultans of swing, this is the guitar player he wishes he was.

  • Why argue about any comparisons at all to SRV or and of the greats? Its all relative. I love the original Lenny, its an amazing guitar tune and i jam to it all the time. But this is a "spinoff", no where near an attempted duplication. He knows as well as us there is no duplicating the real lenny. I can play it almost note for note (on my best days) and can easily say its no where near the same thing even still. So just enjoy the tune. Its very good regarless who did this one or the original.

  • which brand and model which John Mayer used in this picture?

  • @transfinity brand: PRS, i dont know the model

  • @transfinity Paul Reed Smith McCarty Archtop which,... i have never seen him play before.

  • I love john's playing and guitar chops. bur there will always be another trust fund baby ready to smoke him!!!!! Jimi is king:)

  • @1Crisper agreed hey man would check out my lenny video and let me know what you think?

  • Am I the only one who sees Mayer's playing as a slightly above-average aping of SRV's style? He plays the same licks, but with half the accuracy, a quarter of the aggression (or finesse) and little of the conviction.

  • @onibakemono

Half the accuracy? I think SRV is the better guitar player, but Mayer has the most precise playing of any blues player who HAS EVER LIVED let alone SRV. He plays with a quarter of the aggression because he isn't just a copy of SRV, he is his own person.

You sir, are a fuck tard.

  • @Carthsgtr

When you've been playing guitar for longer than 2 years, come talk to me about accuracy.

  • Comment removed

  • @Carthsgtr Hey man could you let me know what you think of my rendition of lenny, I hope you like it, please comment, I put a lot of sweat/bleat into this song over the years. thanks

  • @Carthsgtr do you have any idea how bold that statement is

  • @ishanbaker3

You are right about that, but I know a huge amount of guitar players and I honestly believe few have got to the level of straight blues playing that Mayer has. Maybe it's true that Batio is even more precise, but it doesn't change the fact that he is two steps below horse shit.

Mayer is the man. Raw talent in an industry that is seriously lacking it.

  • @Carthsgtr Can I suggest you Tommy Emmanuel?

  • @OtakuGatsu90

As highly as I regard Tom, I don't really think you should compare an electric blues guitarist to a guy who plays acoustic.

  • @Carthsgtr we're talking about precision in blues playing? So T.E. just HAS to be taken in. And remember that playing fast is harder on the acoustic.

  • @Carthsgtr

you really just claimed than john mayer was the best guitarist EVER ? im baffled by how you can hold that opinion in your mind??? you claim hes better than the 3 Kings SRV and the sevaral thousand if not million of blues players to come before him??? you not that bright dude

  • @Lincoln424242

I said that when it comes to the technicalities and subtleties that exist within the domain of blues guitar playing, John Mayer has it just as good as anyone has had it before him. I DID NOT FUCKING SAY THAT JOHN WAS THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER! DO NOT TWIST MY FUCKING WORDS!

Also, before you insult me over the internet it would be wise to know the basics of how to construct a grammatically correct (and preferably intelligent) sentence.

  • Comment removed

  • @Lincoln424242 That's awful man, I realized now that you came to this video just to flood the comment section with criticism... I see no sense in doing that when you could be doing something good, like practicing to post a better cover than this one. So why don't you let people hear what they like and go away to hear what you like, because you obviously don't like John Mayer, and I think it will be the best for all...

  • Not bad...should've been longer though, seemed like it ended at the wrong time. Now why didn't JM just do blues the whole time? I'd probably dig him a little more if he didn't do the pop poser bullshit.

  • That guitar sounds amazing.

  • John is really good... but he's such a Douche, not even close to be good spirited like SRV or Hendrix....

  • @F3FisGoodforYou I agree. There are so many Mayer fanboys on the net it isn't even funny. They just don't get it!? Not worth trying to make them understand how weak Mayer is compared to the real thing. Mayer is a major douchebag, he kissed Parez Hilton (not to be confused with Paris, which is bad in itself, Parez is a dude, a gay dude).

  • @F3FisGoodforYou His sound is just a little sweeter than those two and I don't think he can help it. Not a bad thing but you just don't get the "in your face, screaming, take you in a dark alley and beat you with a baseball bat" feeling like you do with tin pan alley or leave my little girl alone or any of those tunes. he's a talented douchebag...haha

  • this is a bad ass cover...for all you idiots that dont play

  • crappy cover. John Mayer plays well, but his phrasing is chaotic- like a quilt slapped together with any squares of fabric laying around. Mayer knows the licks and understands the tone, but he lacks real soul. He's what hendrix would have been if Hendrix was made out of plastic.

  • @whybotherwithauserna I like Mayer's phrasing. Also when I see him play, I really feel like he's putting his heart and soul into it. But then again, how can I , or anyone, quantify something as intangible as soul by watching, or listening to someone. Their appearance might not reflect just how much feeling they're putting into it. Dick Cavett asked Hendrix if financial success makes it hard to sing soul and blues. He replied " the more money you make the more blues, sometimes, you can sing".

  • @claptanamayer me too my man, hey would you check out my lenny tune and let me know what you think?

  • @whybotherwithauserna hee hee hee... I loved your critique you could be a writer for a paper... well put.. I too used to not think to highly of this Lad, I too am a true Hendrix fan and know where all the real roots are taken. The star ego thing throws one off too. But after a close and honest evaluation I have come to the conclusion that this boy aint bad. He has done a good job here, and he has some things to give to the world outside his dick. Jimi nailed em all too, part of the virtuosity?

  • @awesomejohnnet. Hey man your chill you know what's up. You speek the truth. Dig I man!! Question..you ever seen jimi or SRV play?

  • I must say im not a big fan of John, but I do respect his taste in music. He has covered countless classics from Hendrix and Vaughan. Its also safe to say he is one of the last artists that does the whole live band/guitar thing. Everyone now a days has a DJ or some kind of auto tuned mechanism to make them sound fancy. This is coming from an avid blues/rock/metal fan, i definitely ain't hating on him.

  • All you guys defending SRV :) now you know how us older guys felt when you were saying SVR was better than Hendrix :)

Now heres the deal, Jimi is the guy who "started the genre" he was the spark. SRV was a Jimi deciple down to the clothes... he ripped jimi off mercilessly but did have a great touch and feel on the guitar "which he learned from Jimi" and played some great tunes RIP, No Johns here picking up on SRV and you guys are getting hemroids :) Jimi was "the Man" did it 40 years ago.

  • @awesomejohnnet yes hendrix created the genre but stevie had a certain blusey idea that he created and no on can re-create and John, he can take all of those and make it a simple pop song without making it lose taste

  • @bulldogsforeva

I agree , because of John Mayer many young girls and guys have been turned on to masterpiece songs like "Bold as love" and "Lenny" and I think he plays them well and does them justice. I think that if he dosen't get consumed by his stardom and ego Mayer may surprise everyone in the future with some really special music. He is headed in the right direction with these songs thats for sure. But 40 years ago a young man from seattle came out of the blue started it all. RIP Jimi

  • @awesomejohnnet God, John is not egotistical. You want to see ego, go see Kanye West. Mayer just says stuff he later regrets. He even wrote a damn song about it called "My Stupid Mouth." He's human with a very human problem--he says stuff he probably shouldn't have. The only difference is that he's famous and on TV, so he gets painted as this huge douche bag who, in reality, is a guy who gets sarcastic because he gets sick of real douche bags like TMZ and Perez Hilton and Jessica Simpson.

  • @SuperGamer87 I hear what your saying...

    I respect your point,

But its there... and turning off many fans,

I think he has come to grips with it and trying to mature that aspect of his personality..

hey we were all dickheads when we first got famous , started making money and nailing movie stars,

its the learning curve of stars... now whether those stars can become legends is what remains to be seen...

I like Mayer and respect his talent, I try to get too critical as "we were all ther once"

  • @awesomejohnnet i agree with everything you said.. but jimi didnt start it all.... what about bb king, freddy kingg, muddy waters... infact blues rock was actually started back in 1830's by slaves... the slave holders gave them religion (like voodoo) and out of religion they made music, and thats how it ALL started... thats pretty much how rock started itself

  • @Tnorman0119 Two different things, King Guy and Waters are "traditional blues artists" , Jimi was a multi faceted pioneer of guitar psychedelia which spanned a rainbow of genres from extreme hard guitar rock (voodoo chile, Haze etc) to poetic motown ( electric ladyland) to rock operas ( 1983 mermaid etc) he also sucessfully crossed over to a predominantly white audience. He has 4 platinum albums and has inspired an army of guys with strats and hats. He took it to the next rainbow, pure genius.

  • @awesomejohnnet yes. i think srv and jimi have the best stratocaster feel.. jimi (which you said) is not like srv and also does harder rock while stevie is mainly blues rock
