  • What's your take on some so called Taiwanese Americans that deny the term Chinese American and prefer Taiwanese American instead? Which to me I think is very foolish and stupid. Because the term Taiwanese to me is a nationality not a ethnicity. As for me my mother is from Taiwan and my father is from Southern China and I am very proud to consider myself 100% Chinese American! Oh and another thing what is your take on Jeremy Lin being called Taiwanese American instead of ABC?

  • Way to go! Im Chinese Canadian tho.. =D

  • I'm not american or chinese. i'm egyptian

  • Hey it's a Hong Kongese here lol glad that u r speaking Cantonese too xD well for me, when I was orderin my food in a Chinese restaurant, I didn't get into the kind of trouble u mentioned. I guess the reason is simply because I dun order like other hong long ppl, I tend to give the waiter enough time to get what I really want for heavens sake lol do wanna be ABC anyways lol

HAHAH!!!!!) for 8years (about half my life), and the other half in Minnesota. Chinese exposure=0% of my life (with the exception of tv). I am jealous of you. P.S. i can speak Cantonese fluently (but not as diligent as natives).

  • chinese smell bad

  • Easiest thing to say is just im chineze cuz thats what they expect to hear. I'm actually alright at chinese, but not perfect, but I'm fluent in japanese so i get hated on a bit. btw im abc

  • Lol, how come chinese ppl always leave out the small cock stereotype when they complain about racism? I mean cmon, we all know that is the most popular one... And im guessing most detramental lol.

Also i'm not white and i live in Australia so ppl often ask me what my nationality is, it isnt offensive u idiot they are just being friendly and want to know more about u... If u meet someone who looks similar to u i bet u ask where in Asia their herritage comes from, why be ashamed anyway?

  • @OnlinePokerCowboy I myself am an ABC, and when people ask my nationality, I do tell them I'm American, not Chinese. I am not a citizen of China. Now if people ask what ethnicity I am, then I'll say I'm Chinese.

And I don't think Steven is as much offended as he is annoyed. I can attest to it being annoying when it happens over and over and over, regardless of whether the person asking is being friendly or not.

  • @tristanhnl Ur sounding like a very self indulgent person whos way too sensitive, especialy when it comes to something as simple as ppl noticing u are not another 'white American', which u should be proud of, not annoyed by.

I was born here and im thankful im not white Australian, Australia is the best country to live in in the world imo but i think if ur parents are ethnic u get the best of both worlds. In other words i like being different, and so should u, always be proud of who u are.

  • @OnlinePokerCowboy I'm not offended at all, and I am indeed proud of my heritage. My heart swells with pride every time I go back to Hong Kong. The annoyance is with the repetitious asking, not of my own ethnicity. If I lived in a city or area in general that consist mostly of white people, I would be glad to answer as many times as people ask. But I don't, so it gets annoying. That probably doesn't make sense to you, but you need to be in my shoes, and live where I live to understand.

  • @OnlinePokerCowboy Oh okay, I just understood why you thought I'm not proud of being ethnic. I was merely trying to point out that by asking someone's nationality, you are actually asking what country that person is a citizen of. So, Mr. Poker, your nationality is Australian. Ethnicity is what most people are referring to when they say 'nationality'.

  • I'm a British Born Chinese and speak Cantonese as well :D

    Represent :P

  • LOL Dude WORD! I'm an ABC and those sterotypes annoy the hell outta me. And LMAO "Oh oh so you're Chinese. For a moment there I thought you were Asian." xD

  • You are hilarious! Love it! Hahaha! All true!

  • you ever been to hong kong ?

  • @9810blacksheep Yes I have! I actually visit HK about once every 2-3 years in the summer :)

  • lol ur too cute!

  • This really helped me to see from the perspective of ABCs. Funny, too!

  • u from hk?

i can speak mandarin, and cantonese. can u speak mandarin?

  • @milestonenong

I was born in the United States but I grew up speaking Cantonese. My parents can barely speak English so I was able to maintain my Cantonese throughout the years by communicating with them. Unfortunately, I'm unable to speak Mandarin. I understand conversational Mandarin and can speak very little. Nowhere close to fluent though lol...

  • @stevenzhangmedia i mean your parent may be from hk, caz ur made an example in a hk style canteen for example.

i am from china mainland, and i saw lots of ABC in sydney. actually i think when ABCs meet, they aint willing to speak cantonese or manderin, even though they can speak it flently. maybe its because their mother tongue aint chinese``lol

  • @milestonenong I'm assuming most overseas chinese can use chopsticks when eating Chinese food. I hope they have sense of appreciation of Chinese culture too.

  • Are you speaking in Cantonese at the beginning of the video?

  • @ttiiyy Yes I am :)

  • @stevenzhangmedia That's what I thought. I did not sound like Mandarin. Some of my friends are from Taiwan and China, and they always communicate with each other in Mandarin. They told me that only in a certain part of Southern China, people speak Cantonese.

Man, Chinese is a lot more complex than I think.

  • what if youre a CBC? :D

  • @123LOLpants Canadian Born Chinese? Just as cool :)

  • I love being Asian American :) woohoo!

  • @kathc04 Me too :D..

  • GREAT VIDEO HOMIE LOL One day I will move to China

  • i come from the manland just pass away

  • @gandimark

hmm...so you're telling me to "pass away" just because I don't come from the "manland?" you're so cool. keep using your proxy to get on youtube while you're at it.

  • haha abc is me. So many struggles. cultural identity. different views and customs. different outer appearance. it sucks being an abc

  • I'm an abc! Well not really born in america but basically grew up in Atlanta! Originally from Guangzhou and visiting relatives this summer after 10 years. Wish me luck with those disadvantages ! Do you speak mandarin btw? Cause I know that I'm Suppose to know Cantonese and mandarin haha

    Much love,

    Amy

  • im not an ABC but im recently studying in LA as an international student..

  • I'm Malaysian Chinese and it's worse for me. English is my 1st language, and we have to learn a 2nd language in school - Malay. I can't speak Mandarin or Cantonese, I do speak a Chinese dialect which is Hokkien, but not many people speak it. After living in Australia for 5 years, my Malay is rusty and I get comments from Malaysians: "You're not Chinese cause you can't speak Mandarin/Cantonese!" n "You're not Malaysian cause you can't speak Malay!" Lol at least I speak better English than y'all!

  • dude, u r so funny.

  • ha im a BBC

  • Shout out to beef chow fun.
