I love both openings myself. The Japanese version is adorable and longer than the English version, but the English version is just so iconic and friggen awesome. Haha, and I ADORE Starscream and all of his clones. He even brought one to the opening animation! XD

Usually, I tend to like the Japanese intros better, but I think the American intro here is better. Japan seems to have taken a page out of the US's playbook here, actually having scenes from episodes in the intro itself while the US's intro has animation made specifically for it (which is something Japan usually does).

This clip made me realize something...both of these are extremely freakin' corny! Now the English one takes the cake because it coined the term "Robots in Disguise", but the instrumental of the Japanese song is better.

So while the Japanese theme is an actual song, and they put real effort into as opposed to the American theme, the American one wins.

I hope they dont call him that when the movie comes out here in a few months, but they probably will....

In Japanese the word Optimus Prime can't be translated properly. Its does not translate right so the name Convoy was picked as it translates into Japanese as in Japanese people understand that it means Optimus is the leader of a Convoy.

I just think its odd that they do use love songs for almost every cartoon opening matter the programs subject matter. Its almost always a woman singing something along the lines of, when your all alone and your back is against the wall, a cherry blossom will bloom and love will find you after all! Takara and a few other Japanese companies supplied the toys and Hasbro commercialised them. Takara jumped on the bandwagon roughly a year afterwards due to the success of the product and the pre-existing marketing material (ie 16 episodes and more to follow). Is that concise enough?
