  • Ajahn Brahm is the man. Very good teacher, and very easy to listen to.

  • Ajahn Brahm is a good and very funny teacher. just love it :D

Even if some points of the buddhist mainstream dont make no sense to me. but "buddhism does evolve"

Keep it going ma man and ajahn brahm :D

  • @persianstylzz Why i t doesn´t yet make sense to you is probably because you haven´t understood it. When you evolve you´ll see it in another light.

  • Vegetarians die an agonizing death due to deficiency.

  • he he. don't show your stupidity to rest of the world. LOL.

  • why do you have to tell the whole world about your expiriences.

so how was it. did they do it very hard to you. he he. LOL.

  • why does it bother you. it's my ass not your's. ha ha.

  • Scientists has proven that vegetarians have average of IQ 5 points higher than meat-eater. You're safe. Hey, just go to the jugle and meditate to improve you IQ further. That's how we become wiser! Don't waste time here. Or you'll become another moron.

  • ha ha. LOL. that's a good one. LOL.

  • ban him!!! lol

but actually it is funny to listen too :D

  • I heard that the Buddha asked not to have heated arguments with people instead discuss the matter.

  • very nice video that I like ! I would like to know about Buddha dharma from you .Thank you .

  • We should all drink a lot cups of tea!:-) Althogh I enjoyed Ajahn Brahm, as always, don´t miss the other talks on this channel!

  • I really enjoyed this video. I think it is important to question everything so you can develop your own point of view and freedom. well done Ajahn Brahm!.

  • yays

  • Awesomely excellent talk. This is about way more than what's been posted on here about this, because once you've gone beyond what your experience of what things are or the "way they're supposed to be" i.e. the Truer truth you OWE it to yourself to start investagating.

    Thank You.

  • Sickness is natural. That is great insight. There were times, I was very angry for being sick. I felt I did not take care of myself. So I have to waste money buying medicine. Medical cost in Singapore can be quite expensive.

  • THAnks for great video:)

  • I usually like this guy's talks, but reincarnation is equally silly as heaven and hell and hades and pergatory. This was the most useless talk I've heard on this channel.

  • Why gives this comment a thumbs down?

He/she can have their own opinion and doesn't have to like this talk.

Just like you don't have to agree with his/her comment. Let's not judge comments.

  • I don't mind if people judge, it's good to express your emotional response on something arbitrary like a comment. :-)

  • You learn the complex rules of karma by constant meditation. Please do not ditch reincarnation before you've practice Buddhism long enough. Be open-minded and you will gain more benefit when studying Buddhism.

  • I see it as a metaphor for a thought experiment where you think about the consequences of your actions. But I think focusing it all on "What will I be when I come back" leads to sort of a selfish concept where if someone is not helping someone else, they feel fine as long as they are not overtly hurting someone else.

  • *10*

I have thouroughly enjoyed this talk :-)

(I'm having a good cup of tea ;))

    Thank you :x

    Rosanella :-)

  • i agree reincarnation is an irrelevant issue to discuss, I find that the here and now is what really matters. But I shall say, I have been giving it some thoughsince hearing Ajahn Brahm talk about it. I guess my own fears about coming back have hindered me from really looking at it from and investigative point. Thank you Ajah Brahm.

  • I have a question of my own.

Do Buddhist have to be vegetarian?

  • I'm a vegan, and I consider myself as an animal rights activist, but I can't give you a straight affirmative answer. Basically any human being can be a Buddhist, because Buddhism is not about condition but about direction. Thus even committing homicide, genocide, child-abuse or else cannot be act as disqualification; simply there are different stages of the path.

But in terms of modern human ethics, contrary to the common belief, meat-eating cannot be justified. Read from Peter Singer. :o)

  • Thank you both adamsrib56 and Baratgab for your replies!

  • BARATGAB: Hi. Great points. In my case, I tried vegetarianism many years ago, but after the first six months, I felt lethargic, so I had to reintroduce meat. What's your take?

    Namaste'

  • I think it's important to do some research about the modern science of diet, because our common sense is heavily biased towards animal products. Most western people simply cannot believe that we don't have to eat such things to be healthy; this psychological influence can be quite strong. Funny thing, but when I became vegetarian, I was anxious about my health, and I considered the change as self-sacrifice. Now I would stop eating meat even for solely health reasons. :-)

    (cont. in another post)

  • I recommend the book called The China Study, or John Robbins' books, i.e. "The Food Revolution" or "Diet for a New America". Nowadays many doctors use vegan diet for treating patients; like McDougall, Barnard, Ornish, Esselstyn, Fuhrman, Pritkin.

If you like online lectures, I recommend to google "Life At Its Best | Amazing Discoveries" for a really detailed series. This is from a somewhat controversial man, but these lectures are basically reliable. I can post other sources if you'd like.

  • I had no space, but I thought I write another post. IMO there are some factual reasons why can a person feel temporary worse after going veg:

    - Gut flora needs to be adjusted (few weeks).

    - Eating instinct needs to be adjusted; foods have different calorie density and macronutrient ratio.

    - Fat-consumption drops; our vascular system starts to clean up; blood pressure can drop.

    - The body starts to use the fat stores; if it contains toxins (diet/environment), all kind of problems can appear.

  • Tufts University Medical School registered dietitian Johanna Dwyer summarized: Data is strong that vegetarians are at lesser risk for obesity, atonic [reduced muscle tone] constipation, lung cancer, and alcoholism. Evidence is good that risks for hypertension, coronary heart disease, type II diabetes, and gallstones are lower.

  • I had contact with a Monk recently who could not be asked how do you know and most answers were quotes from the suttas! which is fine if the question was not about how they knew the satipatthana suttas claims were true!

I found a video in YouTube on how to meditate. Here is the title of it for you to search it on YouTube:

"How To Meditate I - Sitting"

"yuttadhammo" is the YouTube username of the person who uploaded the video.

  • I think one of the most wholesome ways of dealing with reincarnation-critics is to explain it as irrelevant. Since our practice is an ultimate aspiration, is has full meaning independent of time frame. If we don't have another life, don't have another year or don't have another moment -- it doesn't really matter, because it's all about now.

By the way, you can find a talk with Venerable Dhammadipa about no-self and reincarnation on Google Video. Very calm, deep-minded monk; check out. :o)
