  • @ctarv302 That's sort of correct, but not exactly. The 99-04 3.8s made 190 hp to the FLYWHEEL at 5250 RPM. So what you say is somewhat true - you're only making 190 at 5250, which is when you need to shift. But flywheel HP mean nothing. It's what you're putting to the wheels that counts, because that's what you're actually using.

Not to mention the screaming exhaust you have, there would have to be a damn good cam with the Windstar intake, maybe high flow cats since it is that loud

  • @willpw314 There's just not enough after market parts for the 94-04 3.8(3.9L) V6 cars to make serious power, you'll never get over the 260 flywheel horsepower mark with bolt-ons and the most you could ever get with a supercharger or turbo is a little above 350 rwhp. I speak because I owned a 97 V6 with a 01 engine in it, for 3 years. No I have a 94 5.0l and I love the 94 way more. I had a few bolt-ons on my 97v6 and the 94 GT blew it away stock. The v6's are great lookin gas savers though.

  • @tylerm8 i have an 01 v6 premium, but for under 20k I can put in a 4.2L v6 and at turbo that willl give you upwards of 500 rwhp, with that i'd also need an 8.8 rear end, and a better suspension too, so i dont kill myself in it, i just want to do a engine swap and turbo mine because no one does it, it's more unique than getting a GT.

    -the 94 GT's are dirty cars, my buddy has one and that thing hauls ass

  • @willpw314 If you want something different then that is the way to go if you want to keep a six. The 94-95 5.0 cars are under rated by everyone, and I know for a fact that the 94-95 GT's are stock for stock faster than the 96-98 GT 4.6s but the 98 225hp 4.6 will give it a run for it's money.

Yes you can drive a V8 all the time...i get 26+ mpg and my insurance isn't bad either. The whole thing is...everyone has a v8...do something different. Any idiot can squeeze 500hp from a V8 but it takes someone with a lot of time and determination to get that from a v6...and its great when you wax a v8..."YA ITS A 6!!!"

I got a 07 v6 and it was 20k new and a gt is 34k new for fully loaded. I used 14k into it and it has 520 HP which is way more than spending the full 34k into a 310 HP v8.     You are comparing flywheel horsepower to horsepower at the wheel measured by a dyno. The stock 05 to 09 4L V6 cars make about 15hp more at the wheels more than a 99 to 03 3.8L V6. Achieving 215hp at the wheels with either a 99 to 03 3.8L or a 05 to 09 4L is quite good for bolt ons.

    05 to 09 V6 Mustangs have a better automatic transmission. Amongst manual transmission V6 cars, the 99 to 03 mustangs can match 05 to 09s stock for stock.

  • @bladingpro 2010 at the flywheel and they WILL NOT hold a candle in the wind to a 94-97 GT! just the torque of the GT pulls ahead a few car lengths. The 4.0l is a boat anchor and is essentially a mps sucking ranger/explore engine, It's not a practical car engine at all . I would have rather for went with a 3.5l Fusion engine or hell even the f150 4.2L V6 (stroked up 3.8L) than put that engine in it. It has a lot of torque, but the hp curve is stupid. PPL dont realize the 3.8L has awesome gas mpg

  • his is 99 - 04. The reason the hp is so different is because ford re did the intake on the motor and went from a single port to a split port intake. Instead of having one hole per cylinder, the went to two that were bigger in total volume than the volume of the single port. The heads also flowed better and dramatically increased the hp

  • well, here's the deal, i saw a v6 for 16K, it was an 07, but i saw an 05 GT for about 16K so i chose the GT, by going 2 years older and 20K miles less, i got a sweet car that sounds awesome and powerful, i know that the 05+ GT is actually a pretty quick car, it has 40 more HP and it's lighter then the 04 even though it looks bigger

  • i have the Delta Diablo chip. get the Predator cuz you can change the setting(gears, tires size, air/fuel, etc) yourself and with a chip you have to take it to a shop to change setting. i would of got the Predator instead if it was out when i got the chip.

  • i added 10inch k&n filter. 80mm C&L mass air meter, bbk cold air intake, acufab throwbody and spacer plate, i cut off the 4 cats added mac cat back. 3.73 posi rearend. sct tuner 91 octane tune. took it to the dyne and i had 158hp . WTF i was expecting 215. all i have left to do is under drive pullies and dryshaft. that should bring me up to 176.

  • you're losing backpressure because you cut out all 4 of your cats. a stock/bolton V6 needs backpressure or it's actually going to hurt your hp/tq.

    stock, a manual V6 stang should see ~170rwhp and an automatic should see ~160rwhp.

    keep in mind, bolt-ons wont do much for our 6's. and the 3.73 gears dont add hp at all, they help you get into your powerband quicker.

    second, the 3.8L V6 mustang has 190hp at the crank. the 3.9L makes 193hp at the crank. not 195.

  • well, if it's a split-port 'stang, udp's, a cai, a tuner, windstar upper manifold, and dual exhaust should get you close to 200rwhp. a good h/c/i setup will give some pretty impressive gains on the 3.8L

    If its a manual. There is only about 10-15% parasitic loss.

    so ......

    UDPs: 10HP

    Exhaust: 10-15 HP

    CAI: 5-7 HP

    Tune: 10-15HP

    So thats around 230-240HP to the crank, minus the 10-15% parasitic loss = around 200-15 HP.

    Some of you need to learn. Or just keep quite.

  • actualy yeah that is right. a drive train is parasitic power loss meaning it takes a PERCENT of power away. the more power u have the more thats lost in the drive line. generally a manual car loses between 15%-20% and a automatic can lose as much as 25%-35%

  • Actually the govener dictates the top speed of a vehicle. The reason that a dynotune does so much for a car is that the stock tune must meet all EPA tests, be very very reliable, etc. By tuning the car to optimal performance we are making these cars run better, but at a small cost.

  • Sorry, but there is no way you are pushing that much. Stock you'll make around 165rwhp and with your mods that you mentioned, you should make, at most, around 175-180rwhp.

  • Actually the singleport (94-98) v6's make about 130rwhp and splitport (99-04) v6's make about 160rwhp. The difference comes from the newer heads and intake.

  • you sound fucking stupid, seriouly lol. the v6 was not built to be a fast mustang. just to have the nice looks. but if you did your math and read.you can build there blocks from a 3.8Liter v6 to a 4.0L, 4.2L,4.3L, 4.4L ,4.5L with the forged internals maken it the stronger bottom end. once all thats in. then you have a preformance v6 mustang motor. and twin turbo them. anywhere from 275-1073Rwhp. so get over yourself kid.
