So incorrect! Even if Desslok can survive in the vacuum of space, there is NO WIND in space to blow his hair and cape. And how can he talk to Wildstar when there is no air to carry sound? This story was more lame than Ron Kovic, Total sequal syndrom. I regret watching it, and never will again!
@Halpin2006 I agree. This Yamato movie seemed rushed and not well thought out. The first two series and the Arrivederci movie are leagues ahead of The New Journey in every way. I personally choose to ignore everything after Yamato 2. Although Be Forever is fun to watch.
i am 41 year old female, have loved the Western version called Star Blazers, have never seen these episodes. I loved seeing this. So sad when Starsha said goodbye to Sasha,
@Hesuku Hello! Do you remember me? Previously, I talked about you and Yamato. For me, youtube is the most fun. Now, Yamato fans love to you, tell you that (or rather, maybe if you already know.) Yamato live-action film version next month, will be published. One will also be seen in the United States. However, this movie is as old grew up watching the Yamato I have mixed feelings (laughs).
@nekonoke Of course I remember you! Thank you for your kindness. Yes, we are aware of Yamato live action movie. I'm so sorry Mr. Yoshinobu Nishizaki passing away. I didn't like Hukkatsuhen at all, but Yamato as a whole series is indeed the most beautiful animation work that can never be forgotten. Enjoy the live action movie and tell us about it later.
@Hesuku After a long reply from you to pay a visit to my favorite, I'm glad. By the way, Nishisaki death was a shock. Yamato, which we liked, largely due to his creation. He may have a conflict of authorship Matsumoto. Yamato two suicide bombers in the film version of White Comet, Yamato TV version 2 as it returns to earth. The draft version Nishisaki movies, television is a draft version of Matsumoto. According to Matsumoto's authorship, "it makes sense to go back alive," the claim that it was.
@Hesuku I was more impressed by a film version of Nishisaki. But the revival of the Yamato Hen, I did not see so unpopular. Is worried that he broke the good memories. This time, the truth is a little subtle (laughs). Que sera sera, becoming at that time, I try to judge.
@Hesuku By the way, happened recently, do you know of a ship collision in China? Japan today is that the Chinese "empire Gamirasu" has been attacked over (laughs). Unfortunately, the government of Japan has no talent like Okita and ancient. In reality, it will be quite a drama as well ... not. Ha ha!
@nekonoke Yeah, it seems the shifts of power are causing territory disputes more than ever around the globe nowadays. American/Korean fleet are gathering on the Yellow Sea today and that really looks real war preparation. Praying for everyone's safety.
@michaelhviper Starsha did die. The novel says this hologram-like appearance of her was possible because Starsha was Iscandarite(alien), not an Earthling. I remember sci-fi anime became strangely spiritual already since early 80's preaching the state of afterlife. I guess mankind just cannot stop thinking on eternity, viewing the seemingly endless vastness of the universe.
@evildave hmm must be some wind in space because Desler's hair and cape are moving. wind means there's air. i guess with a lil imagination u can explain it as maybe Desler has a personal shield mechanism that keeps a bubble of air around him. but i still cant explain the windy condition. maybe he got a cooling fan hidden under his cape to keep the personal shield mechanism cooled. :D
@cydonianman Why not? The Yamato produced such a bubble once in Season 1, and it is easy to see how you would need a constant draft that would prevent the air reserve from getting poisoned with carbon dioxide and other toxics. That neatly explains the cape.
such a melancholy ending, shakespearian in the way that the plot resolves itself, but at such a cost that it makes you wonder if it was worth it, even if it was.
I like the ending with no closing songs... for me it only adds to the foreboding of the imminent approach of the Dark Nebula Empire.... like Picard staring out the window knowing that the Borg would one day approach Earth.
My 9-year-old wonders how Starsha can talk to the crew after she killed herself with Iscandar. Well, the little one is a technocrat of sorts: She swallowed Dessler's reanimation by the Gatlanteans, but messages from afterlife stretch her will to believe too much. I suggested to her it was a prerecorded message sent from an automated probe. What do you people think?
@Restitutus It's always nice to have a hearty message left from a person who's gone permanently, although Yamato makers certainly overdo it like this, you know. This "prerecorded" message by Iscandar's top technology is interruption-proof such as baby's sudden cries. Starsha should have something more to say to Desslor since so many of his soldiers died because of her.
@wirehoncho if I were the creator I'd say I never changed Wildster's uniform because it kept him more in touch with the crew.He probably DOES have one and saves it for formal occasions.
Jeez....how many all powerful completely evil empires are there in the yamato universe? It's like an endless video game of ever more powerful boss battles.
mostly kidding :) This was great. Desslar's scream was just heart wrenching.
Gamilus is far from being completely evil. That is what makes Yamato so interesting. Even the Black Nebula Empire is not quite. After all, what do you think they would do after Dessler annihilated their mining convoy out of the blue?
Thanks. People of different countries across the sea and history, that he loves me just as I had loved my cartoons, I was impressed. In the world there are many things constantly, Yamato love to everyone who is hoping to come to a blessing.
Please store the VHS carefully. It is a treasure of the youth that gave time when is important for you (I store the LP of first Yamato, too). The times got worse, and the world became rich. But would the heart become rich? It was Yamato not battleship Andromeda to have saved the earth from the comet empire. Yamato was an analog story not digital. All the people are analog basically.
I agree with you! Somehow easiness of life and prosperity have made monsters out of us. If there were no real suffering people on the other side of the globe, we'd have been simply bunch of fattened fools. But ingratitude and indifference is making us extremely wicked. Earthlings are not good species. Kids pick up the selfish attitude from the society, although each generation has responsiblity to counter its own evil - no blame game.
Probably matsumoto will continue watching the dream while knowing that the dream does not come true. Because it as for his romance is because is it. Yamato was a story of the romance. For us who are for kodai and Deathler and a fan. As you were felt before the great romance, it is only small contradiction that a mantle streams on a spaceship^^
Man, without romance, there's no drama! I'm so glad Yamato incorporated so many prolonged beautiful romances! In other animes, they all instantly killed all those beautiful lovers I was heart-broken!(OK, I'm in 1970's)
Just a dream:P The reason I've been saving "Yamato" VHS and DVDs... With the today's militant power-hungry girls, could there be room for boys to be tough and gallant... again?
Galaxy Express 999 was the story that a boy had various experiences through moratorium, and grew up. When a chief character parted from Maetel, the boyhood is over. Yamato is different. It is a story as you spoke it. It is the fault that remembered matsumoto of the Yamato author that I remembered Galaxy Express. I said that he wanted to "have a look at space while he lived". In matsumoto producing a work of the space like Yamato, will not it be granted the dream grand U.S.A.?^^
Good point, nekonoke-san. Galaxy Express 999 is like a fantasy based on "The Blue Bird." A youth strives for his own dream while getting helps from gorgeous people and thwart the injustice of the world system while himself growing up. Yamato is more like a tribute to soldiers who died for their country. I find it funny that while Americans expect encountering weird-looking aliens, Japanese expect good-looking ones. That divided their course of SF makings, probably.
Why, yes, except their skin colors and eye colors. And look at Starsha and Sasha! Japanese imagined better-built humans while Americans initially imagined Octopus-looking ones.
Well, actually the original cartoonist of the Yamato characters can draw only one kind of beautiful female; I thought this was a common knowledge of Yamato fans. Things were not that complicated in 70's, Mr. Restitutus.
There must be an internal reason why both known Iscandarians look like Yuki. It is the same genome, evidently. The obvious answer: Shultz stole a sample of Yuki's genes and Hisu cloned Starsha and her sister from them! :-)
Such a wild imagination... I think the fact Yuki looks like Starsha and Sasha simply tells of her outstanding beauty as an earthling, and it made easier for Kodai and Shima to fall in love with her initially, having seen dead Sasha previously. It's kinda romantic to meet a girl in Yamato who resembles the life-saving alien-princess. I think that was the reason. Cloning may destroy greater possibilties of beauty and excellence.
I wanted to become an adult such as kodai in one's childhood and was in love with the woman who seemed to be Sasha who grew up and dreamed of marrying the woman who seemed to be Yuki. But the reality seems to have been severe... haha!
I am Japanese. Feeling nostalgic, Youtube looked at the Yamato. By the way, the comment was always your comments. You, the Yamato is eager to thank the fans. Animation is a Yamato, then raised a child of my work is one of sentiment. It was time to bask in the works, and was happy I feel now.
Thank you so much, Nekonoke-san. I love Japanese people and "Yamato" anime. SO MUCH beautiful memories!! Looking at other uploadings in youtube, I had expected a lot more people would write about "Yamato" - in hundreds, you know. Sorry for my volume of writings on "Yamato" uploadings; I just love doing it:P So much thought comes back just by her music.
I am the same as you, too. I looked at Yamato, and a pure feeling in the days of the child revived. I cannot readily come across an impressive work exceeding Yamato after becoming an adult. But it is happy even that I was able to have such time. I am sorry that I comment by the result that became nice to see your comment many times. I please hope that you are a fan of Yamato forever.-By the way, do you know that there is a superior work such as "Galaxy Express 999" in author matsumoto elsewhere?
Thank you again, nekonoke-san. Yes, I'll be always a "Yamato" fan. "Galaxy Express 999"(1979) was excellent, too, but not quite as good. The heroism, honour, self-sacrifice and selfless love is unique to "Yamato." She is like no other.
Desslar is like Yamato: he is invincible with his red ship. The reason "Yamato" is so romantic, although lacks some logic. I like "Yamato" over other political-motivated cartoons. Blondes are great in "Yamato"; they just needed more varieties, that's all.
Yes, I love Yamato too. But the death toll is a bit hard to take sometimes. Especially of pretty long-haired blondes. :( Thank goodness for Yuki she always kept hers short.
Thanks! What an observation!! Short-haired blonde males all died anyway.(In other animes, too.) I think Yamato makers tried to make the situation despeparate by making the fleet completely destroyed except 1 or 2 left - it's always more dramatic that way.
By the way, I love Earth Federation in "Yamato." Everyone looks Japanese there. I don't know about you, but being protected by single kind of people gives real secure feeling. No stupid dissension in war time, you know.
Strange that their characters have such eyes, which is rather uncommon among the Japanese. One should think they considered themselves their ideal of beauty?
Translation of ending song "Sasha My Love": "Sasha, my daughter, Sasha, sleep well. Don't give me your innocent smile lest my decision wavers. I had planted a flower seed in your heart with my tears. It will sprout and someday bloom, and you will grow to be a girl with a beautiful heart. A girl who knows the joy of being loved and loving someone. Sasha, you are my happiness."

Sasha, you are my happiness."
...Every mother's song for her daughters!
