  • The Jawa said "Bamlo?" cause he thought to himself "Did he... miss that guy?"

  • I don't know why people think Greedo shoots first in this one because it totally seems like they both shot at the same time.

  • @Fubukio try to pause it when they shoot, you'll see that greedo does shoot first

  • I don't agree with the whole GReedo shoots first, but the new version looks good.

  • SOMEONE PLEASE STOP THIS MADNESS!!!

    (in capitols)

  • I don't have a problem with Lucas adding CGI effects to the movies, nor do I have a problem with him putting back scenes that were originally cut. In my opinion, those are improvements. I DO, however, have a problem with him tinkering with the dialogue, voices, music and (worst of all) the story. WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING?! I realize that they're his movies and he can do whatever he wants with them, but just because he can, that certainly doesn't mean he should!

  • not to get into this but hasnt the motto or saying is gredo shot first rather than han

  • What about when Han shot Vader first in Empire? Why hasn't George gone and re-edit it to make Vader attack him first or something?

  • @chuggyman1 I've been asking the same basic thing, in a different way.

    My way is;

(based on who's tougher) Why do people complain about Greedo shooting first against Han, but not Han shooting first against Vader?

  • If Greedo shot first in the original no one would have cared and now because its edited you have something to complain about.

  • Han should be a Jedi to dodge that blast!

  • lightsaber

  • That scene isnt real. Hans face and head movement look totally CG. Completely different pose and look in the split second scene after the smoke has faded. No such thing as a wider angle. Lucas just felt like changing it.

  • From the script:

    HAN: Over my dead body.

GREEDO: That's the idea. I've been looking forward to killing you for

    a long time.

HAN: Yes, I'll bet you have. Suddenly the slimy alien disappears in a blinding flash of light. Han pulls his smoking gun from beneath the table as the other patron look on in bemused amazement. Han gets up and starts out of the cantina, flipping the bartender some coins as he leaves.

    HAN: Sorry about the mess.

  • @txmgarygygax i have the original star wars paperback and this scence is on page 104 and greedo doesn't even shoot

i bet we'ld all like to hear lucas clear that one up for us

  • i kept reclicking at around 8 or and over and over and greedo really did shoot first. his laser came out of his gun before hans did.

    finally its cleared up.

  • @DannyIs0nFire you realize that isn't what the debate is about?

  • Credit where credit is due. He looks badass just avoiding a laser to the face.

  • IFHAN SHOOTS FIRST,HE DEMONSTRATE HE'S SMARTER,NOT A COLD BLOOD KILLER.

  • You'd think a Bounty Hunter, who lives in a universe where there are hot spots such as Cantina where you can blow someone away and only turns heads for a few seconds then business as usual, would be a better shot than that.

  • There are plenty of real life examples of people missing shootouts this close. What if they both just shot at the same time? I don't see how you guys can hate Lucas for making something you love.

  • @phreakyeggz George Lucas didn't make the first three star wars movies. He was a young director who was being pushed around by smarter and more talented people. He took credit for those films and fired everyone who pushed him around when he was younger. Now, he continues to push out shitty movies while destroying the old movies he worked on.

  • I hate Lucas..... so much

  • @markit39 Good news then: he retired!

  • 0:15 - That's me scratching my head seeing Greedo shoot first.

  • I like how Greedo can't hit Han when he is pointing the gun straight at him but Han can deliver a killshot through the table.

Ridiculous, although i do congratulate the animators for making Han move more fluidly rather than the sudden sideways warp jump he did in the VHS and DVD special editions.

  • and i thought he couldnt do it any faster.....

  • Greedo still shoots first, and Han still fires back while loungin' in his booth. The kind of relaxed stance that only comes from knowing that you're about to gun down a Rodian in cold blood. Awesome George. All these edits have totally transformed our opinion of Solo, who we all thought was just a big jerk until learning that he ain't such a bad guy after all (just forgo the whole "bad guy redeems himself" element, as one-dimensional characters help keep consistent with those superior prequels).

  • The exact reason that this scene doesn't work is that if Greedo shot first Han wouldn't be sitting there all chillin' and lounging. Come on George...

  • I will be buying NO versions of SW now, unless a CORRECTLY done clean up of the original release version is done. Now I think about it...Can anyboy tell me how good the original release DVD versions of the original trilogy are please? I've read quite a few comments on Amazon...but can't decide if it's worth the risk...ARE they widescreen proper, or not!?!? Can't seem to find a definite explanation of that one online & don't want a crap version in 4:3 :/ Appreciate it if somebody cam tell me!

  • Thumbs up for the not-at-all-obvious-rapid-sideways-levitation of Han!

George Lucas: I respect you for what you have done for the industry...and for the joy you've brought to so many. I have no time for those who dis the Ewoks. Or dis children across the board in movies. But THIS scene just ain't right. And how the heck Luke & his GREEN Millenium Falcon Lightsaber got past ALL your employees for the film's DVD release is a TOTAL JOKE. Should've been a free recall & replacement scheme. End of.

  • OMG I just noticed it is actually ricocheting off the adobe wall behind them. WTF!? is the Adobe wall magneticly sealed?

  • press 5

  • My Milk?

  • With aim that superior, Greedo could've joined stormtroopers.

  • HAN SHOT FIRST!

  • lol.... try to pause it at 0:09

then you'll see why people are pissed. Apparently Han "dodged" the shot....

  • Soooooo, you're telling me that a Bounty Hunter shoots first at point blank range and misses? How does that work out George?

  • aww shit, i klicked the "like" button...but I had to laugh, how precisly greedo missed Han from that distance!!! XDD

  • Jeez, guys, sympathize with Lucas.

I mean, it's OBVIOUSLY the wise and noble action to let someone get a shot off at you before you shoot them back. Only SMART and SENSIBLE people shoot first when there's a guy that obviously wants to kill you.

  • U mad people?

  • I don't think we'll ever have a Han shot first release ever again.. but this one looks faaaar better than 1997 and 2004.

  • well, you're almost there George, just one more home video release and you'll have han shoot first

  • if you keep pressing 5, its the exact moment.

  • well atleast this time han ment to shoot first

  • @kgoo867 Yep. Pirating is the way to go. If you like something and want to support the people who made it, steal it.

I'm fine with a bad resolution, because I can just watch them on my laptop where I can adjust the dimensions.

Hopefully the originals will be included in the 2015 Blu-Rays.

  • Honestly, I can live with most of the dumb shit in the re-releases, and I do like *some* of the new CGI in areas where the special effects at that time were very basic, but this just bothers me so much. It wasn't just some dumb aesthetic change that Lucas made for arbitrary reasons. This literally changes the development of a main character and the significance of their actions at the end of the film. There's literally no justification for that.

  • Slowed down, the lasers look a bit like Lucas drew them in MS paint.

I miss the Rotoscoped lightsabers and blasters.

  • Press 5 For Greedo's First shot and han sorta like dodging it... hes moving his left to the left in reflex!

  • How can greedo a BOUNTY HUNTER miss from two feet away????

  • If greedo had shoot first the shoot wouldn't be bad, han shoot and greepo shoot bad and died.

  • To me Han will always shoot first.

  • GREEDO SHOT FIRST

  • Comment removed

  • lol gredo shot first

  • The whole character of Han Solo is his complex personality and rough bounty hunter styles at the beginning, and the movie follows the slow change of his character as he slowly realizes whats actually important to him. Him shooting first is at the beginning of the original trilogy, when he still has the character of "the bounty hunter with no ethics," so Han shooting first (and the only one to shoot) makes sense. COME ON LUCAS

  • @barneybros Ironically you probably know this but the original scene was based on a classic western scene unfortunately I can't remember the film but it ends "The Hero" shooting first. Like Tuco said "If you want to shoot, shoot don't talk".

  • @barneybros You're asking for logic from a guy who wanted the opening crawl to read "A long time ago in the not too distant future". Lucas was a bit messed up before he even filmed Star Wars.

  • @barneybros its people like you that made lucas quit starwars i agree with him, they made a "greedoshootsfrist" website its fucking retarded stop complaining about one little seen and maybe he wouldnt of given up

  • @psyenergy1 What do you think Lucas will do now? I'm hoping he might change his mind one day. I didn't like most of the changes, but then again, his frustration is understandable. What do you think will happen?

  • @sgauden02 he stated that he will be doing low buget movies now :(

  • @psyenergy1 Yeah. As I said, I hated a lot of the changes he made, but his frustration is understandable. I think both sides had their faults. The fans went too far in their ripping of him, but at the same time, I think he went a little too far with altercations. He did it because of all the new techology of today that they didn't have back then, and he wanted to try and add that. But there's such a thing as going too far. I hope he does well in his indie films.

  • @sgauden02 you make good points, but i still think that it was more unfair on lucas yh he fucked up on a few minor things then eveyone shouts at him, im 15 so as a kid around 2000-2007 i was into the prequals alot and saw the originals and didnt see anything special about them, and when i was about 13-14 i was looking on the internet and i was shocked that everyone loves the originals and hated the prequals but now i understand that the prequals are mindless courography apart from 3.

  • @psyenergy1 Thank god you've come to realize this now, because any 15 year old who still thinks the new movies > the originals has to be retarded.

  • @barneybros Vegeta,zuko, he inspired some characters

  • @barneybros Han Solo isn't a bounty hunter, he's a smuggler.

  • @TheJake0fTrades jeez i wrote this two months ago n its still top comment?. but yeah i know i wasnt thinking but you get what im saying

  • @barneybros Why do people make a big deal over half a second of footage? if you blink you miss it, why does anyone care?

  • @silverdragon147 Why is it a big deal? It's a big deal because Lucas did it over political reasons. Gun control, defending only when being attacked, on and on. George Lucas is a filthy coward bowing to the liberal hollywood media control.

  • @barneybros

Han originally did shoot first, but after getting a lot of criticism from over-protective mothers, Lucas decided to change it.

  • @barneybros

Actually, the original edit was not Lucas' fault and he wasn't pleased with it (He was seen wearing a Han Shot First shirt occasionally). As the guy grows older however, you can't really tell which version he prefers anymore.

  • We all know that Solo shot first. The fact that GL later on tried to make it look like it was Greedo doesn't really matter.

  • This...is.........HORSESHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Han Solo didn't just shoot first, he was the only one who shot. He's a smuggler dealing with gangsters and low lives, he probably has to blow people away on a daily basis.

George Lucas is a dickhead for changing it.

  • I think this ought to basically erase the complaint about Greedo shooting first. Since they shoot at almost exactly the same time, Han couldn't possibly be firing in reaction Greedo firing. Han intends to shoot first, and Greedo intends to shoot first. Greedo just pulls the trigger an instant before Han does.

  • hit fave fast he did shoot first

  • I'm not paying $100 for this Blu ray Edition atrocity! As a purist, I'm offended.

  • Come on, George. Let Greedo die with a little dignity.

  • My question is, why do we need to SHOW who shot first at all? In the original version there's a cutaway, you hear a blast, and then you see Greedo fall over dead. Why not just go back to THAT shot? After all the crap we've seen the last decade, people can infer that Greedo MIGHT have shot first in that cutaway, or he might not have. Fans of both versions are pleased.

  • Wow, Greedo sure is a bad shot.

Strange... he was only a few feet away from Han.

  • @ErenorDotCom Well from what me and my friends know is that Han has a some natural talent in the force, that is why he is such a good pilot and has great luck, but most of his piloting skills are experience and skill.

  • @ErenorDotCom So pretty much he knows where the shot was going to happen before it happened

  • @ErenorDotCom Greedo still has better aim than stormtroopers

  • @nurb101 yeah but he can write it in his will or something that whoever inherits the property cannot release the originals, it's kind of like limited ownership

  • well would you wrather have this bar scene or the first special edition bar scene

  • yea greedo shot first BUT HE MISSED, DOES IT MATTER IF HE SHOT FIRST >:(

  • han shot first look at :07 and notice how bright his clothes are and his skin then pause at when he falls and notice how gray everything is han shot ifrst like if you noticed

  • It really should never have been changed from the original, but I like this cut much better than the one before. If I had never seen the original or the previous remake, this would feel pretty natural, like an old west style shootout.

  • Greedo shot first because Darth vader told jabba that he needed to freeze Han solo in carbonite

  • @nurb101 ok seriously, wats with this bug up Lucas' ass to make him even suggest something like that? wat changed a Coppola protege who understood the importance of film preservation into a self centered jackass who likes to stay attached to a 30 plus year film franchise?

  • @DarkProphet94

He was affected by how the studio system screwed with him that he suddenly went obessive about his ideas and won't let anyone say or do anything that isn't what he wants, but he doesn't know how to control every aspect of a movie and he knows it. You can see this in Plinkett's reviews, in footage where Lucas saw the final edit of Ep 1, he realised he screwed up. He's good at ideas, but not making em work. Originally luke was a 45yo man named Luke Starkiller, but others changed it.

  • This wasn't a very pivotal OR interesting scene to begin with. I'm not sure how anyone can justify hating it so badly.

  • @EnDZYm3

Because it takes away from the rougeish character of Han Solo. He's willing to step over a few bodies to get where he wants. It's ridiculous to modify the scene like this to make it more family friendly, just because Lucas realized he wanted to do children's movies all these years.

  • 0:12 "Mom look!"

  • I don't think Greedo shot first, in fact I don't think he intended. It George Lucas who shot first, he was nowhere to be seen the blast shot startled Greedo to the point where he just pulled the trigger. If he really intended to kill Han why miss at such a close range?

  • @nurb101

At least Episode 4 and 5 are preserved in the film congress also, so yeah.

  • @nurb101

I actually hope to someday have some director come along, like a future JJ Abrams, who will remake the entire prequel trilogy, but make it AWESOME, and then remake the original trilogy but basically change NOTHING from the classic release(probably make it like the original Special Edition from '97, but keep Han shooting first).

And then, when those are successful, he'll then make sequels to the original trilogy based on EU novels, like the Thrawn trilogy.

  • Not long ago, when asked about releasing the originals, Lucas said "Grow up. These are my movies, not yours."

Hahahaha no. Sorry George, when a movie is as culturally important and influential as Star Wars, it's not your movie any more. It belongs to all of us, not you.

  • I still have the original VHS versions......I shall treasure them forever........

  • Doesn't this defeat the entire point of a duel? In a duel its all about reflexes. By being the first to shoot it doesn't mean your a cold killer, it means your the better man because you can draw a gun (or blaster in this case) quicker than your opponent.

  • @MaxButcher and aim and shoot it faster...

  • oh god lol

  • Wow. The Force is strong with Han Solo. Only a Jedi could move that fast.

  • Why does Greedo have to shoot at all? That's my question. Screw the good guy bad guy paradigm.

  • The shots are so close together - so close in fact that the point Lucas is trying to make of Han Solo firing a retaliatory shot is lost. There is just no way Solo could have reacted that quick.

Why would he wait for Greedo to fire first anyway?!

Would he rather take the risk of having his brains blown out than shoot a low life bounty hunter first? It's not like anyone in the cantina would care anyway - they've just seen an old man cut off someones arm and no-one gave a shit then.

  • Comment removed

  • Supposedly, having Han Solo shoot first would make him appear like a heartless killer and by having Greedo shoot first, Han is shooting in self-defense. The problem here is that it was already self-defense to begin with - he shot someone who was holding him at gunpoint.

  • @tolchok89 It also adds a certain moral ambiguity to Han's character. There's nothing more boring to watch than a perfect hero who does the right thing in every possible situation.

  • @argebarse In addition, Lucas claims that the changes are to make it closer to his original vision.

Well, guess what? In the drafts of the script prior to shooting, Han shot first. You're moving AWAY from your original vision.

  • hans head still needlessly moves to the left.

  • The funny thing is they shoot AT THE EXACT SAME TIME!!!

  • What's so insulting is that Lucas is telling us, the fans, "No, you're wrong, you can't have the original unaltered versions". He could avoid so much hate if he just released the originals along with the altered versions.

    .

Instead he's giving everyone the finger and acting like a fat little child by refusing to give back what ulitimately belongs to the culture, not just him alone.

  • @nurb101

I agree with this. I was all set to rush out and buy them, and alterations be damned. Not like I was ever going to turn that option on anyway.

Sorry, what's that? It's not an option? There's no original version option!? Well, that's £35 saved then!

  • I absolutely dont understand why they still didn´t fix the look of that stupid on Microsoft paint created laser shooting out of they´re guns.

  • HAHAHHA 0:12 "Mama look!"

  • Hello? Is that the United Nations?

    Good.

There's this alien bounty hunter shooting at me see, and I'd really like to know if I'm authorised by the Geneva Convention to use lethal force yet. What? Yes, I've really tried everything. All he did was shoot at me when I offered to talk about his obvious emotional trauma based on his father not loving him... You say I can shoot back? Well thanks but I'd better give him a chance to reload first, he looks pretty upset.

  • Greedo obviously had his blaster set to Stun.

  • The film is really ruined... oh please grow up and watch the VHS then

  • Did anyone ever complain about Han shooting first? How about the fact that there's an incestuous kiss in your franchise, Lucas?!

  • These fucking "greedo shoots first" edits are just getting shittier and shittier.

  • In my humble opinion, ladies and gentlemen, Greedo was shown to shoot first in those versions to show that Han Solo has some connection to the Force. I mean, he is pointing/scratching basically the same area that Greedo's shot hits -- and a little to far from where Han's head was at before he moves it slightly over. That's a pretty big miss for a person in Greedo's line of work I think.

BTW I'm no Star Wars fanatic, I just thought I'd share.

  • They... both... shot... first?

Whats the next revision going to be? Pompdour space captain bar extra shoots first?

  • Great video.

  • 666 dislikes. Coincidence? I think not.

  • @jymz13 it is. believe it or not, every video with 700 dislike or more reach that number.

  • To be fair, while I'd rather have Han shoot first, this is better than the previous two edits. 1997's looked pretty unbelievable. 2004's edit was a bit better, but there's an awkward half-second between "Yes, I'll be you have" and the blasts, which is removed here. Still not perfect, but at least it's better than the last two.

To be honest, most of the changes from the 2004 DVD's to BLU-Ray I'm okay with...except Vader's "No" and "Noooo!" in Episode VI. That pretty much ruined that whole scene.

  • god its like Han Solo has some super Human FLASH speed or something cause that shit is ridiculous. He wants it to be more consistant and look more realistic then he needs to have Han Shooting first, geez.

  • whats next? .... remake the entire trilogy?... all CGI?

  • @johnnyrockerfella Dude they made very very very minor changes.

  • @TimbobJames they added in jabba the hut, into a new hope.... cgi jabba.. looks like a dogs testicle.. and not only that it takes away from jabbas intoduction into return of the jedi....and the new singing? in return of the jedi sux balls.. they took out bits... added others... trust me, man, watch the original on VHS...compare that to this blu ray shite.... and youll see ;)

  • still looks like crap.

  • FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • seriously, who the fuck cares, not even Plinkett addressed this one second 'who gives a shit' scene, thumbs down.

  • Should have taken out Greedo shooting all together! It was Han's personality to shoot first! He was even getting ready for it because he knew he had to kill Greedo! Just glad I didn't buy this re-release of this saga for just this one scene! :)

  • Google "Han Shot First t-shirt" and you'll see a photo of George Lucas wearing a shirt that actually says "HAN SHOT FIRST." WTF?!??!

  • @DUNNJIN

Because it would be so impossible to clip about a half-second of footage..........

  • @DUNNJIN He's a fat fuckin' troll who wants to piss us off.

  • Now that I look at it, when the shots are fired Ford's head only has like 2 frames of movement, looks retarded

  • damn you to hell lucas...

  • Not as terrible as it was, but it still looks ridiculous compared to the original.

  • Worst bounty-hunter ever.

  • Honest to god, you'd have to be aiming to miss at this kind of range.

  • What is this "first" bullshit? Greedo didn't shoot AT ALL in the original. Go dig up your VHS's, folks.

  • @thatsyourproblem In the Dvd release they changed it to where he shot first. The "(still)" in the video title is a reference to that. Noting that they did not fix the issue. Rather, the kept it in.

  • @thatsyourproblem

Sorry, VHS tapes wear out fast.

  • Greedo... still missing from point-blank range ever since George Lucas decided he hates fans as much as he loves money.

  • Atleast it didn't show him dodge two laser blasts by moving his head and then fire.

  • Fuck you Lucas, I'm still having the flashbacks from the rape scene that was the last Indiana Jones movie.

  • Press 2 if you like to play. Chess...

  • so I wont buy this

  • "Just in case you forgot, I still hate you.

    -George Lucas"

  • who cares

  • Still looks fucking awful, still an utterly pointless change.

  • Someone has got to make a What is Love remix of this with Han's head movement

  • his head still does that weird move to the side thing.

  • they took the captions out too for some reason

  • Can someone take away his copy of final cut and hide the originals in a vault?

I don't mind CGI upgrades, better sounds, but why edit the actual clips >.>

  • @alamoanimation They shoulda edited Jar Jar into the bar scene.

  • @hehfilms Greedo never shot.

  • fail...epic fail

  • @hehfilms If that's the case then why edit it?
