However, I'd like to respectfully state that the NOI does not practice Arab Islam. They don't look to the Middle East as their motherland and they have a very distinct AFRICAN form of Islam. Interactivity is encouraged and women are divine ministers, in keeping with the African concept of priestesses and the larger role of the woman.

@dazamaru Everything that you mentioned is absolutely true, but the NOI is very much a syncretic belief system, in the vein of Candomble, Umbanda, and Santeria. African beliefs and practices are combined with Baptist roots and Islam to create a belief system that is uniquely African-American and African.  Perhaps this is why so many arabs resent the NOI. They look to Africa as the holy land and to the ORIGINAL MAN as their prophets. Peace to the NOI, we need you!!
