  • how is that offsides people these days dont know soccer as it use to be

  • @ilikebabyturtle Are you blind? Don't you see the Goalkeeper???

  • I don't know the rules yet, I did a little research on offside goals. Can someone explain to me why isn't the defender near the goal the benchmark for offside? Is it because the goalkeeper is the only one being the benchmark for offsiding?

  • @ashrocks87 To be onside there has to be two opposition players closer to the goal than you, the goalkeeper counts as one of these players.

  • @VV4000 You are saying that there has to be two opponents in front of you, unless it becomes an offside? By the way, can you check this if my understanding is correct:

    1. If you are nearer to their goal than their last defender(not the gk), and a team mate of yours touches the ball, you are offside.

    2. Offside is invalid if everyone on your team is on your side of the pitch, even if you are nearer than the enemy's last def.

3.the last defender, gk, and the ball is the basis for offsiding.

    tnx

  • @ashrocks87 1. No, only if you touch the ball.

    2. If you are inside your teams half of the pitch you are onside, it does not matter what the rest of your team is doing, offside only applies to the one player.

    3. The last two defenders, one of these can be the goal keeper. Also if the ball is closer to the goal line then you then you are not offside either, in other words if you are behind the ball in terms of which way you are attacking you are not offside.

    Hope this makes sense.

  • @VV4000

    1. Ok, so it only offsides when the ball is passed to you and you received it.

    3. if the ball is closer to the goal line than you, but there's only one defender(gk probably), is that offside or not?

  • @ashrocks87 1. Yes if you touch the ball in a offside position you are offside, but if your team mate touches it you are not.

    3. If you are behind the ball you are onside no matter how many defenders there are. There could be no defenders in front of you but as long as you are behind the ball you are onside.

  • @VV4000

    3. But then that means the offside on the video was false?

  • @ashrocks87 No, theres only one defender in front of him so hes offside.

  • @VV4000 WRONG

  • @DJlBBO Explain

  • @VV4000 WRONG epic fail

  • FUCK URS MEIER !!! GAY REFEREE!!! a cheap man!!!

  • THATS UZBEKISTAN REFEREE ON D SIDE HE IS GOOD ONE...NOT IDIOT LIKE THE OTHERS..

  • I understood every single word they said!

  • he is in offside ife u knew the rules you would have understood if the goali is in front of the striker the striker then is offside if its less than 2 defenders behinde him if ther is more than 2 he is not offside..

  • why would he be offside? there is a player in play at the goal line. if he is behind the goal line then vela would've been offside. correct me if im wrong please.

  • @FadzliRealtor gotta be 2 opposition players between him and the goal, usually the keeper is one of them so not many people realise this. In this case the keeper was behind Vela so the defender on the line wasn't enough for him to be onside.

  • @DukeKrostif thanks. never knew this. but what if another mexican player dribbled the gk into the byline and passes to vela who is behind the gk (closer the the goal), would the play be offside?

  • @FadzliRealtor as long as pass goes backwards the offside rule does not apply

  • @FadzliRealtor if the goal keeper isn't the there than it doesn't matter. There stil must be any two players behind the player.

  • Well, of course i do understand german

  • Why does this need to be explained. It's fuckin obvious

  • Stupid rule

  • @misfitsg17 how is the offside rule a stupid rule?

  • @blehface3000 Not the basic offside rule, I was referring to this type of offside rule that involves the keeper

  • @misfitsg17 fuck me are you retarded, the offside rule includes the bloody goal keeper: "A player is in an offside position if three conditions are met: first, the player must be on the opposing team's half of the field. Second, the player must be in front of the ball. And third, there must be fewer than two opposing players between him and the opposing goal line, with the goalkeeper counting as an opposing player for these purposes"

  • @blehface3000 I know that, I still think including the keeper especially in during a corner is stupid. The keeper could have seen Vela all alone and decided to come out just in case if he missed Vela would have been offside

  • @misfitsg17 it sounds stupid, but if you didn't have it then every team would put a lot of men on the line goal hanging and swing it out for a lob pass

Offside rule stops a lot of very cheap play on set pieces

  • @blehface3000 Well I can agree with you on that.

  • Can you do a video on Tevez's goal aginst Mexico

  • @MrSantoslaguna11 Or Maxi Rodriguez.. Or Tevez 2nd ogal vs Mexico haha

  • As much as i understand the ruling of offsides. I completely disagree with this rule. As in, the goal shouldnt be dis allowed simply because theres only one defender on the goal line. It was the decision of the goalie to come out and try to get the ball the player shouldnt be penalized for the goalies mistake. I think this rule protects the goalie in these situations but rules are rules i guess.

  • @Khaoz67 It wasn't a mistake, the goalie was totally playing him offside. ;)

  • Forgot to add: "on purpose"

  • Comment removed

  • @Win7niW you're and idiot, speak properly

  • @blehface3000 why did u tell me I'm an idiot???

  • @Win7niW because you don't understand the rules of football

  • @blehface3000 I do understand more than u do, n even if I don't, does that make me an idiot???

& by the way it waz just an opinion

  • @Win7niW it's not about opinion it's about rules, and the rule is that you're offside if you're behind the second to last defender and this includes the goalkeeper

  • wat does that mean??

  • Y'all faggots need to learn how to play futbol not offsides idiots

  • Swap the GK with the CB on the line....you would then realize it is offside.

  • Yeah he was offside, but what the FUCK was the goalie doing???

  • Comment removed

  • Keeper counts as second from last defender so he is offside!

  • Not offside.

  • off side simples

  • in order not to offside you need to be covered by 2 opponents !! in this case its covered only by one ......so Carlos Vela is OFFSIDE !!!

  • @the64bigmanNakis that's true but at the beginning of the corner,he already covered by two players(gk and defender)seconds later and after the ball was in the small area, then the player went back from gk

  • Fair enough...now explain to me how the 1st goal Argentina scored vs. Mexico in the Round of 16 game wasn't offsides.

  • this rule worked on pes for a couple of years now so i wasnt surprised when it was called offside.

  • what about the guy that kicked the corner! vela was not offside

  • @xozzyx88 his team mate?

  • @xozzyx88 Are you silly?

  • @xozzyx88 Haha what are you talking about? As if his team mate would make him less offside... They are both offside.

  • Very intelligent call by the linesman and they said officials are shit...

  • Hmm... I wonder if this works on fifa....

  • @BloodPuls3 I know it does, always gives me the headache

  • Comment removed

  • didn't know that you could be offside on a corner kick....

  • @scoutout007 There is no offsides on a corner. But the corner kick was taken then it was headed to him. That's when he was offsides, the header not the corner kick.

  • @scoutout007 Well you can't technically, because you would not be past the level of the ball. This was offside because the player was past the second to last defender and past the level of the ball when his teammate tipped the ball at the top of the six yard box

  • when you are watching this live you dont think about all these possibilities and close calls.

  • What about the guy who took the corner, he was standing there during this whole episode

  • What about the guy who took the corner

  • You can't be offside on a corner, the ball is traveling backwards the whole time

  • @Donut1377 Said the guy who calls this sport "soccer" :)

  • @MacsimJ When did I say that?

  • @Donut1377 Exactly

  • @Donut1377 But someone heads the ball on. Offside.

  • Haha, if this is the rule, I have a perfect strategy; the goalkeeper will be in attack all the time, and 6 defensive players will stay on the goal and protect it, while the rest hunt down the one man with the ball that unfortunately cannot pass because it's offside. Problem, football?

  • @CommandSpry Was this sarcastic or serious?

Because if it's serious you clearly don't understand the offside rule.

  • thumbs up if you read the comments coz u cant speak that language

  • He's not offside, because, his foot is level with the keepers foot. Thats all it has to be

  • @markcurrienz yeah but the rest of his body is in an offside position giving him an unfair advantage from his position. Hence, he is off-side.

  • @markcurrienz Na brah

  • @markcurrienz But his foot isn't level, it is in front of that orange line.

  • fuckin vuvuzelas

  • how is this offside there is a defender on the goal line

  • @TheTHCbaby but in this case the goalkeeper is the second last defending player and that is the important thing. The rule don´t say who has to be the second last defending player

  • @TheTHCbaby it's not about keeper or defender... it's about one player must be lower than two opponents when the ball being kick... if SA had 2 players in front of vela, then he'll be safe, but here, only one... that's is why you see here they pull down the keeper once, and the second one, they pull down the defender when explaining this situation.

  • 0:33 - 0:35 LOL Goalie

  • Don't over complicate!

Off-sides is when you're behind the second-to-last defender (it doesn't matter if that's the goalie or not).

In this play, the last defender is the player on the goal-line. The second-to-last defender is the goalie and Vela is clearly behind. Hence, he is off-sides!

  • @Khabibul35 why don't the whole team and the keeper run to the other end of the pitch leaving the keeper the most advance in the group and leave a player on the goal line at the other end for every corner for an offside?

  • @TheMusiicMan

There cannot be an offside on the cornerkick. The offside was when #9 passed it to #11. If the corner went straight to #11, there wouldn't have been an offside penalty.

  • @TheMusiicMan because there is no offsides on a corner kick. even if there were, the players would be behind the ball when it is played, meaning they are not offsides. the reason this was offsides is that when the ball was flicked on by a mexico head, the player was standing in an offsides position.

  • @Khabibul35 if there was 2 players on the line and vela was still behind the goalie would that be offside?

  • @IVIADDOG1690 No.. basicly the offside rule is you have to have two players between you and the goal.. the goalie is included as a player which is why its usually 1 defender to keep them onside.. Because the goalie was ahead of the player that leaves just 1 player between him and the goal.. If there was 2 players then it would be onside.. I hope this answers your question

  • @Khabibul35 didn't know this, thanks :)

  • @Khabibul35 thank you someone knows the right rules. people don't understand there has to be at least 2 eligible players. they dont get what ELIGIBLE means

  • @Khabibul35 i always thought it was the last defender cheers for clearing that up

  • @mogrsc hes wrong wtf.... its last outfield player ffs dont listen to him man -.-

  • @Th3w3n no he isn't he's right

  • @Khabibul35 your an idiot! a player is in an offsides position if he is behind the LAST defender:)

  • @DaronSaysFuckOff bitch, Off-sides is when you're behind the second-to-last defender (it doesn't matter if that's the goalie or not).. The Last defender he mentioned is the GOAL KEEPER

  • 1. the ball to vela is not played from the corner, it was flciked FORWARDS by a mexico player

    2. it is not if you are behind the keeper your offside, there has to be ANY 2 players inbetween you and the goal to be onside

  • its in the rules that you cant be offside from a corner. hes playing the ball backwards.

  • Uzbek referee #1 )))

  • funny thing is he wasnt offside because it counts from when the ball is kiked LOL

  • @Neco69er the ball was headed by an mexican player in the box so i was a new play situation thats the reason why he is offside!

  • You can be onside if you're behind the keeper. He explains it here when he drags a second defender behind Vela, the line indicating where offside is moves too. You are offside if there are less than two of the defending team closer to the goal than you, and the ball goes forwards. I'm surprised to see how many people don't understand this simple rule.

  • Um I don't know what your talking about his toe is cleary onside :P

  • so seldom you see a linesman pick this up in a game. a written rule it is but never used in practice

  • its because he is behind the goalkeeper

  • @iGeorgiePorgie No. It's because there is only one defending player between him and the goal when he receives the ball. It has nothing to do with where the keeper is necessarily.

  • whats an offside?

  • Thats the oldest rule in the book! ive known this since i was like 8!

  • the rule for offside is if your behind the second to last defender

  • Nice that they can move the goalkeeper :D

  • Even this kid was waving the offside flag 1:08

  • I understand everything

  • This isn't the kind of offsides that normally needs explaining.

  • Haha:D, Good one EtceteraPeople

  • He is offsides because the player on the back is slightly in the net and therefore inactive and does not keep the goal-scorer onside.

  • Comment removed

  • Call me crazy, but I think on Corner Kicks, there shouldn't be "offsides" because then the person that kicks it is offside right? I know I'm a stupid American who thinks rules should make sense...but I did play soccer for 8 years.

  • @vaibanez17 There are no offsides on the corner kick itself. but after the kick was taken the player headed the ball towards another teamate who was in an offsides position

  • @vaibanez17 also there kicking it backwards, the balls gotta be going forwards for it to be offside. also its called football

  • @vaibanez17 You're asking for a rule that actually exists. The first person to touch the ball after a corner kick can't be offside - that's in the rules. In this case, however, the offending player was not the first person to touch to the ball, and the graphics show that he was definitely offside.

  • How is he offside, the player on the line is playing him onside

  • @MiniWizza10 The law states TWO players must be between the player and the goal. - one is usually the goal keeper but in this case the GK was forward of the offside player. Perfect explanation, except in German :-)

  • @MiniWizza10 You need two defending players between the player and the goal, normally one of these is the keeper, but not in this case, as the attacking player is closer to the goal than the keeper.

  • People who understand the title don't necessarily understand the video ...

  • ESTOY DE ACUERDO CON EL ._.

  • This shit is on sides, they headed the ball before the goalkeeper even passed Vela so there is 2 players behind Vela, you dont see this because of when they stoped the video but its onsides....

  • @Csco13cr if you pause it when he heads it, vela has a goal scoring part of his body offside

  • @Csco13cr if you look at the frozen picture, the ball is actually touching the player's head, and he is very clearly offsides.

  • yeah i actually knew if you're ahead of the goalkeeper it's offside..Crappy rule?yes

  • Comment removed

  • @no1diamondgeezer well yeah i guess....but mostly any soccer player would take advantage of the golies position and kick it towards goal since there's no goalie. So it be folish for the goalie to even do that.

  • Comment removed

  • @no1diamondgeezer one key rule your missing in that idea, you cant be offside if the ball is passed backwards ;) so even if whole opposition was up the pitch you can just pass it backwards to your team mate in box ;)

  • @jason220190 you can be offsides if the ball is passed backwards, but you can't be offsides of you are behind the ball when it is played. if the ball is played backwards and you check back from an offsides position to receive it, you are still offsides.

  • @Am3rIca16 its not necessarily before keeper. in orded to avoid offside you have to be neither behind the ball or 2 opposition players (which is very often gk+one defender)

  • @Am3rIca16 thts not the rule its actually based on the second last defender including the goalkeeper. Your typical offsides is the last defender but when including the goalkeeper it is the second last. If there would have been two defenders in front of the keeper than the second last defender would mark the offsides not the goalie. Its a rule not many people know cause they always just assume its the last of the 10 field players

  • @bas1allstar The offside rule has absolutely NOTHING to do with the goalkeeper, the rule simply requires 2 players (any 2 players) on the defending team to be between the attacking player and the goal when the ball is played. The goalkeeper can be in the opposition's half and it makes no difference to how the rule works - just that 99% of the time the goalie is one of the last 2 defenders. Omer below got it right.

  • @steevmsteevm exactly thats what I mean i said including the keeper because a lot of people exclude the keeper when you mention n defenders but in reality he is just like any other player regarding the offsides rule. So yea ur 100% correct

  • @steevmsteevm you are a champ for understanding this! So many people dont get it and it's pretty sinmple!

  • @Am3rIca16 you dont know the rule. It's people like you who dont take the time to fully understand things then bitch when it doesnt go the way you expected. If you're ahead of the ball or the second last defender (not just the keeperwhen) the ball is played forward to you, you're offside. If two men were on the posts here, he would be onside and have a goal. Good call by the assistant. Only if it was in the EPL.

  • @Am3rIca16 yes

  • @Am3rIca16 except that's not the rule. you can be ahead of the keeper if there are two players further back. just because in most situations the keeper is one of the two players which keep you onside does not mean that if you are ahead of the keeper you are offside.

  • BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • They're saying he's offside because only one player is between Vela and the goal. The rule states that for a player to be onside, two players must be between the player and the goal, this is usually counting the goalkeeper but this is a rare example of the player being nearer to the goal than the goalkeeper. Therefore only one player between Vela and the goal :)

  • the offside rule is not as confusing as one might assume; its only the application that gets watered down at times.

In this video the goalkeeper is assumed to be the second-to-last defender-becos he is off his line-the normal default position. While the other defender standing on the goalie is assumed to be the very last defender.

One is only offside when he is closer to the opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last defender.

correct offside call-most linesman miss this

  • can some1 pls help me here. ive been watching football my whole life and i don't understand why people believe this is offside when there is clearly an opposition player standing at the near post and he keeps vela onside. but on this vid they show that the keeper was further from the goal then vela so it's offside. how deos that work? isn't vela onside considering that theres a player on the near post? pls help

  • @ChelseaFcTheChmps you don't know the most basic offside rule mate.

to be onside, a player in the opposing half must be level with the SECOND TO LAST player of the opposing team.

so basically, there has two be 2 players between him and the goal line. in 99% of all cases, the goalkeeper is one of these players. however, the goalkeeper is further away from the goal line in this case, so there is only one player between the striker and the goal line. therefore it is not offside.

    good luck

  • @utdfortreble but why are they saying its offside??

  • @ChelseaFcTheChmps He meant not *Onside.

  • @ChelseaFcTheChmps because the goalkeeper is behind him. so there are not 2 players between him and the goal line. that is why it is offside.

  • Hairy nob sights 27-29 hahaha

  • last man, but not depends on the keeper

  • It is offside because the goalkeeper is a player like every other, and offside is when beetwen the player and goal is at most 1 opposite player.. In most cases it's the goalkeeper but here it is a player on the goal line..

  • The player on the line is basically void because You cannot have a line of defence beyond the Goalkeeper. So, because the keeper was on his six yard line when the ball was flicked on, Vela was offside because they ball was played forward to a player who was beyond the last line of defence i.e offside. However, if there was another player between the defender on the line and Vela, the goal would have stood because he would have acted as the last line of defence. I like understanding things :)

  • @TheJPDH your right except when you say u can't have a line of defence beyond the goal keeper, you can but it has to be at least 2 people..basically that's the offside rule, we normally just look at the last defender because the goalkeeper is normally behind him but it's still 2 people (gk plus last defender)

  • Wow, if I lived in Germany I would be very educated right now.

  • @EtceteraPeople i dont understand what he's saying, but i already know that whether there is another defender at the goal or not, you are not allowed to be behind the goalkeeper, or else you would be offside

  • @EtceteraPeople actually a swiss guy explaining the rule =)

  • they say the player on the goal line technically acts as the goalkeeper and the actaul keeper is classed as the last defender, if they the rules then i think the defender on the goal line should be allowed to handle the ball

  • @TheCrazy8800 no, there just has to be 2 people between the goal and the scorer when the pass/shot was made for it to be onside , usually 1 of them is the goalie

  • Comment removed

  • Impressive technology, with all the 3D stuff applied to real images.

  • This was an absolutely fantastic decision by the officials. It's rare that one gets (or TAKES, rather) the chance to say that, but it was.
