I really don't understand the big deal. What's the alternative? Hiding people with disabilities in institutions? Honestly, it's not the bloody dark ages.
It's actually sick that this woman has been dragged from the comfort of her own home just to tell a bunch of shallow, heartless freaks on a tv show about how she feels about people saying their kids are "afraid" of her missing hand when really they can't face people who are less "perfect" than them. It's absolutely disgusting carry on, really in this day in age.
you can tell the guy helping her blow out the feathers was a tad bit uncomfortable. But i don't care whether she has an arm or not looking into the deeper meaning people have feelings ya know! . They should teach children at a younger to be open minded the rugby players at my school call me gay , or faggot and are incredbily mean to people who are gay. Anyway, I'm 14, and incredibly great-full I was raised well enough to not need some TV show to teach me disability is not something to fear. I don't like the idea she was only really hired because of her disability - doesn't seem fair, and is discriminating towards her on one or two levels. However, she seems like a lovely women, and I CAN totally understand the BBCs point of doing it.
And what exactly would make you think that? Do you often tell girls that they seem older than they are? Kinda rude, in my opinion.
Sorry, but I don't need internet strangers telling me how many years I've been alive - because I'm likely to know that far better than you do, don't you think? Get a life.

Im personally afraid of the amount of right wing biggots there are in this country. I wish someone would take them off the tv / houses of parliament or maybe out the country. Try North Korea or somewhere similar...
I have since worked with heavily disabled children and it breaks my heart to think that there are people out there who are frightened of them or judging them badly. When Cerrie arrived on cbeebies I thought it was a fantastic breath of fresh air. I wonder if that woman in the park has stopped her grandchild watching tv all together - or perhaps locked the poor thing up in case it came across someone that didnt look like him. If you're afraid of disabled people, keep your opinions to yourself.
I remember taking my son to the park and got chatting with some old lady who had brought their grandchild there. We were talking about how great childrens tv is these days, how diverse and educational it had become. I brought up 'Something Special' and her reaction to that was 'oh no we wont let him watch that, I think its far too much to let young children watch all that 'glug glugging' and shouting, it shouldnt be allowed'. She made me feel physically sick, I just walked away....

These morons have clearly got issues of their own and they're just using the poor lass to try and draw attention away from their own pathetic selves. @cymrutroll Oh yeah dickhead thats funny how about i come cut your arm off so you can wank with your own stump. Your the kinda troll that makes disabled people feel insignificant.
hahaha its so funny watching her dance around with her fuckin disabled stump-arm, she should be banned from tv like the elephant man shes a disgrace and she will affect the eyes of the children, they only laugh at her anyway.
Scullinblades.........you are by far the biggest moron I have ever heard speak. I have children and if they were scared of this then I would sit down with them and explain it to them and answer any questions they have. To suggest that disabled people only be allowed on the tv after the watershed makes me think you are maybe joking......if you are not then I hope you lose an arm.
@Bobby4times That's a horrible silly immature thing to wish for someone to lose an arm because of their opinion and what they fear, especially coming from a 31 year old? I'm 12 now, but when I was younger I feard any sort of disabilities' it's a fear of the unknown it's completely normal. and the world needs to be educted more on the topic, but lightly and gradually.
As a young child I was really terrified of any sort of physical deformities, and I used to have nightmares for ages whenever I saw any on TV (promos, talk shows, etc) I do think they should limit it to late night TV.
Or they could have done the more logical thing and covered her arm, maybe by wearing a long sleeved shirt. But it's very easy to understand as I feared any sort of disabilities as a child and still do to some extent.
@Scullnblades Well then it's you that has the problem not her!How selfish. Why should disabled people be disadavataged because of your idiocy. If it was normalised less people would care or notice.
I think she's quite fit! She'd look great in a paraplegic porn flick! Just imagine the things she could do with that stump!? Anyway all you haters leave her alone! She's armless enough.....
if the disabled people who represents 15 percent of world population approx, were to be recognised, greater protection for disabled ppl against discrimination can occur
I'm sorry but Cbeebies is aimed at babies, and kids age 3-6.
At that tender age, it's far too abstract and different for them to understand and will indeed scare them. I mean sure, teach your kids but you can't just go through everything at such a young age, hey if we taught our kids everything that goes on in the world at such a young age they'd be fucked up
@Chazz8Zelda No it'll just each them that everyones different and thats OK.They are bound to see people in the street or at school with disabilities anyway so its best if parents can explain them early, instead of them staring in the street...
To all parents who are worried that your children are being scared by her PLEASE don't mistake mere curiosity for fear. If your children ask you questions about her disability, I believe that with that age child, it is more likely that h/s is simply being inquisitive, rather than being afraid. Children of that age don't know any intolerance of difference so they do not know that they could be scared by it. I believe that it is just the parents who are scared of their children getting scared.
@FloppyAndBoppy Agreed. It was mostly scaremongering by a coven of morons at Mumsnet. She is a superb presenter as well, which I think got lost in all the nonsense about her disability allegedly scaring children.
@dialchemy hahahaha your patter is fucking piss mate. Infact, i find you most fascinating (in a purely clinical way of course) you must have had a hard time growing up you sad, sorry, little soul. I guess that's what happens when you are the runt of the litter that nobody wanted well boo hoo You'll soon HAVE to repent for your vile comments on yt and when that day comes believe me you will be very, very, sorry.
People These Days, What So Everyone Who Has 2 Arms And Legs Are Perfect? Pfft What Nonsense! Hasn't History Taught Anyone Anything About Prejudice?
If Your Kids Don't Understand Why She Has One Arm Just Tell Them SHe Is No Different From Everyone Else, Geez Its Like People Never Heard Of Disabled People WHo Seem To Be Way Nicer Then so Called "perfect" People
Shouldent force kids to watch her its hard to explain to a baby why she fucking has 1 arm and its somet u shouldent have too at such a young age its wrong for her to be on tv to kids its the truth face it
@TheMickmack100 watch a different channel then you fucking hater cunt. people like you are sick ! i hope you lose your fucking arm then going by your 'rules' you won't ever have kids or you won't no longer be around them because YOU will scare them...
@TheMickmack100 I'd much rather try and explain to my children why she only has one arm than explain to them why there are such pig ignorant fuckwits as you on the planet, you fucking tit.
This is about as ridiculous as a group of parents holding a prejudice against a humans ethnicity. People are people, we're all equal. We have no time for this type, or any type of discrimination or bigotry. Learn to love one and other, maintaining a mutual respect for one and other and pass the moral onto your offspring. Maybe that way, someday soon people in the near future wont have to put up with this bullshit anymore.
@mp4401 I can feel your pain mp4401 my uncle's left arm is fucked up because of polio and it didnt stop him from abusing my he told me to keep it quiet or he will kill me he raped my and he made me suck his cock and drink his load jamie i love stephanie lied
@lemongrass64 my filipino uncle raped me and then in order to make money for his alcholism and debts relating to his filipino-nationality he amputated me so that when i begged in manilla, the white sex traffickers had more sympathty when they raped me as i begged. why is my name queertamilfag when i mention in this narrative that i am filipino? ah fuck it, it doesnt make sense like how richard thinks if adam breaks up with emma he has a chance just cos she's maltese
I have no problem with this, infact the earlier we start to gently teach our kids about topics like disabilities or race the less likely they will grow up to be complete a$%^&holes.
If your parenting skills are so poor that you can't explain to your kids that some people are born with disabilities then maybe you don't deserve to be a parent.
My 2yr old loves cbeebies and ceri is a good presenter!! the welsh bloke is more scary lol!! it wont be an issue for kids when theyre older if there exposed to disabledd people/ disabilities at a early age!!
i dont think children would be scared unless someone told them something about it to scare them my daughter always watches cbeebies and has never even asked she at 3 years old can just accept ppl for who ther are. i think its more the parents that have a problem with it
I don't think it's discrimination against disabled people I think its just the fact that it scares kids abit! It's the same as if a kids tv presenter had a burka on their heads...kids would be scared and that wouldn't be a discrimination issue, it's just kids!!!!
I had a primary school teacher who had two false legs and one arm due to an accident involving a bus as a child, No body in our school (ages 4-11) was ever scared of her.. there was many school assemblies where her disability was discussed but nothing more. She was a great teacher as Cerrie Burnell is a good presenter so i don't believe any parent should complain.
I am a member of the war amps program in Canada, which is an amputee program aimed at helping people of all ages become active and not be limited to what they can do by their amputation. I think its amazing that she is on a tv show that way it can show kids that there are people that are different but that are the same as anyone else. I am very proud of who i am and would NOT change the fact that I only have one arm and i would hope Cerrie is not discouraged by some peoples comments.
@SimpliztixX Ha! Here here, you're on the right track at least. Kids tv in general is like some kind of surreal and horrific trip!! Also I think Cerrie is quite cute and handles herself very well.
I know Claire (Cerrie), i've known her all my life, and i hate to see/hear people say such bad things about her, she is one of the loveliest people i know.
The discrimination towards her i think is terrible. If parents over protect their children, they will never learn the real facts about life which could damage them in later life.
I dislike discrimination, and to diminish someone's possibilities in life because of a disfigurement/illness etc is a disgrace, but I am personally very awkward around physical and mental abnormalities. Odd, isn't it, how your better judgment and moral sensibilities can be overruled by natural reflexes and reactions...
I love sh*t like this, it makes no sense, they want to raise awareness to stop people being aware.
Seriously, I'm not prejudice at all, but I'm getting pretty sick of everyone telling me not to be prejudice. I find it rather patronising that they feel they need to get a token black man and disabled woman to make my children better people by desensitising them to it rather than trust the parents to do what is right with their own children.
p.s. this isnt a personal attack on this woman at all.
These ignorant parents need to be exposed to people with disability and all kinds of differences. I have not seen her, but this raises the point that our children need to see this lady and others so they can appreciate those of us who are born, or are abled bodied. Children are very adaptable, they only learn fear from their parents...Shame on those parents.
she's lovely my 4 year old daughter. saw '' show me show me '' not long ago and remembered chris and pui , but i think alex and cerrie do a great job.
ok look i'm all for disabled people having just as much limelight as any other able bodied person... but for the love of all thats holyu pleasae just remove the elbow joint or cover it up? i cant stand watching that little nobble wiggle about everytime the gestures with her arms! on a rather cruder note do you think she has a boyfriend? does she get freaky with that nobble to ya think? maybe tickle the gooch with ur stump and jerk with the left hand?
@bonnieladscotty You are a sick sick individual. Have some respect, she's very brave not only showing her disability to others on TV but trying to raise awareness of the disability. Why should she cover up for someone with as little respect as you
@mudman1881 Shes also really fake, shes not a natural childrens entertained, her excitment sounds forced and not genuine, it sounds more natural with the other presenters
@Bronzewhaler82 bollocks, she's real good n most wee uns dont give a monkeys bout missing arms nn what not, parents saying these things really shouldn't of had children.
"stupid people are cocksure and the wise are meek" someone once said.
on another note, she'd look great in some pirate gear.
@mudman1881 That's a little thing called songs and actions. She does work for kid's TV, y'know. She can't just not do actions with her arms because she has a disibility.
No bloody wonder kids can be so nasty nowadays with the attitudes of their parents!!
A disability isn't something to be scared of, it's something that should be openly discussed and talked about. Kids are so inquisitive now, when they see someone who is different they are bound to wonder what is going on but as a parent it is their job to educate their child in learning to accept disabilities as a way of life for some people.

It's funny that having no arm is doesn't prohibit her from being on tv but if she had a face like a bag of spanners (with or without 2 arms) she wouldn't be getting that gig. Oh aren't we SOOOOO enlightened!
My daugher who is 4 years old watch Cbeebies everyday. Never once has she noticed Cerrie's disability. Cerrie is very brave being on TV due to this. I can't believe parents have complained about this!!! Lots more of disabled talent needs to be shown on children's programmes to incourage children that this is the normal way of life.
@leparditas god doesnt exist except for people who are scared to die and seek false solice.god didnt take her arm at all.youd have us believing that dinosaurs were around with people and noahs ark was built and the dinosaurs drowned hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
My little girl is 5 and she watches Cbeebies evryday and has NEVER even noticed she has a disability.....Just goes to show its the Adults that are making a deal out of this......The Child is the Father of the Man!
I'm still traumatized by exposure to two disabled people I encountered in kindergarten; one was a boy (a friend of mine) who lost both his eyes in an awful accident 2 months into the school year (he was run over by a leaf truck) and a teacher's assistant who had lost all the fingers and half her thumb in waterskiing accident. Both of these examples freaked me out (e.g. I've always been terrified I might go blind, especially as I'm nearsighted.) Should kids REALLY be exposed to this stuff on TV?
I think people leaving nasty comments are a bit pathetic really & obviousy lack compassion & common sense, if you ever have a child youd better hope that its not disable because your comments will come back and bite you in the arse!
@rudegirl65 I don't want to father children, in part because they might indeed be born disabled. We're a society which doesn't accept nature's laws very well, so we don't put FUBAR BUNDYs out of their misery, like the ancient Spartans did. (They were in many ways a wiser people than we "moderns" IMHO.) If I ever became disabled, I'd like to think I'd have the stones to put a bullet through my skull, and if I didn't I know I'd be calling myself a life-clinging coward for the rest of my days...
What a bunch of hypocrites. In TV people are chosen for their looks. Why would a disabled person be any different? Why is it ok to not hire an ugly normal person but if the ugly person is disabled then you must hire? This is "positive" discrimination also known as discrimination. And all the stupid apes just follow the fashion of opinions rather then think rationally and treat people fair.
kids need to see that people with disabilities can do normal things. get children to respect people with disabilities when they are young and they will not be better people when they are older!!
I cant believe some people, the ones that discriminate her are sick, fucking sick bastards. Get used to it kids, some people are born without the luxury of two arms, so if you fucking snobs cant deal with it, go die.
Your sick no one execpt people who are born with a disablity including myslef now qhat it feels like to have kids come up to you and ask "What happened to your arm" and all i can think of is that some sick God made me like this for what..... a joke?
I think just the fact that this news program made this an issue is disgusting. Can you imagine if they brought an African American on to discuss comments they received from racists saying that they bothered or disturbed their children????? Seriously? I cannot believe they actually said that it was healthy that people were debating this.
This has nothing to do with the children. Where do you think they learn this ignorance from. Their parents.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol whenever I put Cbeebies on for my son the 1 arm woman always makes me laugh, I know it shouldn't but I think it's where you hardly notice it and when I do I'm like whaaat on earth is that lol
i was watching her on TV when i went to visit my baby cousins i was a bit weirded out when i saw her but i guess its fine but children dont care why should they there 2 young to critisize people for what they are and i guess it would teach them but kids are into learning they just take things in i guess they would want to learn about it
it's a good thing shes on kids tv.If more disabled people are on tv, kids learn more about disabilities at a young age, and hopefully there will be far less discrimination in the future.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No point highlighting it to youngsters, disabilities like that recieve little discrimination anyway and I'm sure the kids will learn about all of that themselves when they are older. She should cover the end of the arm up with her sleeve, kids want happy care free television, they do not need a grim disability in their faces 24/7
children are more interested in spinning round in circles or pretending to be a dragon then whether or not someone is missing an arm.
I think it's brilliant that this woman is brave enough to say; 'here I am, and I'm disabled', knowing full well she may come under fire. It's individuals like her that are going to change people's opinions and shake off the stigma attached to being disabled.
If there are parents out there fearing that disability will "scare" a child, I think it is the ignorant, intolerant disablism of the adults. I wouldn't be surprised if the same discrimination was picked up by their sons and daughters - it's sickening that this blatant discrimination is around in a supposedly modern and progressive society.
at 2:08 notice that the camera is focused in on ceri, but you cannot see her disability.. on Cbeebies its not like that. Its there all the time, focused in. If she points to something she uses that arm and the camera really focuses in.
I dont have a problem with this, and my little boy isnt scared. but I understand why this may anger some people. I really dont think we need anything forced on us. Plus I don't think there are any children out there scared. thats stupid, just some excuse.
Good on her for making a succes of her life. but when I first saw it I felt a little bit disturbed, then quickly got over it and felt a bit dissapointed with myself for feeling that way. However further down the line I feel she is actively bringing attention to it, and its becoming very annoying!!
Totally agree. Kids don't care and quite rightly so. This should not even be an issue, but seeing that it appears to be so, it's nice to see that the majority are in favour. Although it's true she's not the best singer ;)
To be honest, when I first noticed her arm I did feel a bit ddisturbed, and was disappointed in myself for feeling that way, but the more I watched her, the more I liked her and less her arm seemed to matter. So, if that was what the BBC wanted, they have achieved it, so well done, it makes people more tolerant. Also, she is a beautiful woman and genuinely seems like a lovely person with a lot of heart.
So Cerrie has half a arm missing ! - SO WHAT ! A totally brilliant presenter who is so loved by my young daughter ! If my daughter asks me a question about this, then I will answer her. Cerrie is one hell of a talent and quality for the BBC and TV in general . . . Our kids will learn as it is ! Keep up the good work Cerrie !
My daughter watches Cbeebies and loves the new Cbeebies presenters. I believe that children should see more disabled people on the television so as not to be frightened or nasty to those they see in public. Cerri is a normal human being like the rest of us, if i lost a limb in a car accident or something i would hope that people wouldnt treat me differently just because i looked different. Good luck to Cerri, im sure she'll do really well in life.
Whats all the whining about? SHES FIT AS A BUTCHERS DOG!! Id give her plenty of sticky-back given half a chance! And it wouldnt be plastic either.........! :-)
its stupid that people are saying its gonna scare their kids...if their that worried about it...then stop them watching cbeebies!!! shes only human...she didnt choose to be born with one arm!!!! its exactly the same as racism...you dont choose what colour youre born? did you? i am at a school where i am the only native english person in a class of 31... i get accused of racism all the time...i just say i didnt choose what colour i was born and neither did you so just shut up and geet on with it.
if the beeb canned her she would own them for it! I remeber years ago when Blue Peter kept bringing up Joey Deacon the mental guy and bringing awareness to that. I think it's cool she is on Tv.
Go cerrie

I'm sorry but Cbeebies is aimed at babies, and kids age 3-6.
At that tender age, it's far too abstract and different for them to understand and will indeed scare them. I mean sure, teach your kids but you can't just go through everything at such a young age, hey if we taught our kids everything that goes on in the world at such a young age they'd be fucked up
Chazz8Zelda 8 months ago

I had a primary school teacher who had two false legs and one arm due to an accident involving a bus as a child, No body in our school (ages 4-11) was ever scared of her.. there was many school assemblies where her disability was discussed but nothing more. I think its amazing that she is on a tv show that way it can show kids that there are people that are different but that are the same as anyone else. I find it rather patronising that they feel they need to get a token black man and disabled woman to make my children better people by desensitising them to it rather than trust the parents to do what is right with their own children.

@rudegirl65 I don't want to father children, in part because they might indeed be born disabled. We're a society which doesn't accept nature's laws very well, so we don't put FUBAR BUNDYs out of their misery, like the ancient Spartans did. (They were in many ways a wiser people than we "moderns" IMHO.) Why is it ok to not hire an ugly normal person but if the ugly person is disabled then you must hire? This is "positive" discrimination also known as discrimination. And all the stupid apes just follow the fashion of opinions rather then think rationally and treat people fair.

If there are parents out there fearing that disability will "scare" a child, I think it is the ignorant, intolerant disablism of the adults. I wouldn't be surprised if the same discrimination was picked up by their sons and daughters - it's sickening that this blatant discrimination is around in a supposedly modern and progressive society.
myinfamy 2 years ago 4
at 2:08 notice that the camera is focused in on ceri, but you cannot see her disability.. on Cbeebies its not like that.

To be honest, when I first noticed her arm I did feel a bit ddisturbed, and was disappointed in myself for feeling that way, but the more I watched her, the more I liked her and less her arm seemed to matter.
