  • Thanks for the test, I thought that might do it. With the pressure did the filter flow water fast? Great info I haven't found any other independent reviews. What does Sawyer tell you? The online specs say it should operate much faster even with high altitude and low head pressure. Do you know anyone else with a filter, I wonder if its somehow defective.

  • @jim456699 With pressure, yes the flow was pretty good. I reported the slow filtering to Sawyer right after I got it and they said some filters ran slower than others. Not much there... I don't know of anyone else that has the same filter.

  • Great set up but try to follow the instructions! You missed one crucial step, PURGING your filter under a pressurized water source. This is why it came with the faucet adapter. Basically most of the pores in your filter are trapped with air and the water is taking the path of least resistance through the limited saturated pores. You only need to purge the filter once in its lifetime to get the "factory" air out. Give it a good pressurized purge and let us know if it works to factory specs.

  • @jim456699 I got out the instructions and it didn't say anything about purging with a pressurized water source, but I gave it a try as you suggested. No change in performance. I can't say I would recommend this filter for anyone in a hurry. It's working for me because I can set out a bucket to drip filter in the morning and pick it up in the evening.

  • Sir,I absolutely am not trying to offend here, just was wondering if your gamma bucket lid was venting enough and also if the vent on your 5 gal.water container was opened.I understand that if the vent on the container was open you could have an overflow if left unattended but that could be the reason your not getting good flow.just an observation and again not tryin to insult your intelligence.thanks for posting your vid.

  • @MrEasyrhino Thanks for the suggestions, but the Gamma lid has a half inch hole in it because I tried to add another bucket as a charcoal pre-filter. I'm still working on that one... I give the vent a turn on the receiving container so I'm pretty confident there's no vacuum or pressure problem causing the filter to run slowly. After using this for a few months I've never got it to run faster than a quick drip. Other than that, it seems to work pretty well. I just let it run all day.

  • See the air bubles? It takes a while to purge air out of the system. Also the higher the bucket and the more water in the bucket the faster the flow will be. You're also having to push water uphill into the jug when the filter is below the jug inlet.

  • @hunt458 I've tried several things to speed up the flow, but none have been very successful. It doesn't really matter though because I fill my bucket and just let it go either all day or over night. It's finished when I go back. That's the main thing I'm interested in. It really does produce some good tasting water.

  • Maybe adapt the filter directly to the bucket and shorten the hose a bit. The more in line you are and the more volume of water you have above the faster the rate. The filter is designed to be slow and it looks to be working fine. I LIKE IT!

  • @thegbpackers284 I do like the filter and it seems to be doing a great job. As for a modification, I'm not sure yet what I'll be doing because I now have it outdoors and will need to bring it inside when it starts to freeze. I don't have a lot of room here, so will have to be creative to make it work.

  • Might be runnin slow but a human can live for weeks without food. Take away water and a man is dead in days. Nice vid.

  • @butcherbls It seems to run a bit slow. The spec sheet says it should do 5 gallons in an hour or so, but I don't think it runs at anything near that time. I dropped the manufacturer a note about the rate, but even if it does run slow I'm confident I can use this on a regular basis.

  • Thank you for sharing, I think it would work for me also.

  • @NWOIS666 Since I need to filter my water or buy it, it's my plan to use this system to filter all my drinking water. If I ever really "need" to use it, then I'll know it works. I do plan to do some kind of charcoal filtering with my bucket before the water ever hits the filter.
