  • I did the same conversion in my 92 4runner! Love them motors!

  • NICE! Feel free to come join the yotatech.com forum. They'd love to see your swap. You did a great job if you got it in there without a body lift! Here's my build thread

  • The engine power is sufficient, has 20 hp more than the old gasser and you really can feel the car is a lot more lively. It can gain another 30-40 hp with an aftermarket turbocharger. Yes, it is noisy; yes, it smells like diesel; but the sound of the turbo spooling is music to my ears. And the fact that I can drive a 4X4 for 400 miles without worrying about refueling is the cherry on top.

I will make another video driving offroad (in HD) and post it. Keep checking my channel often for updates.

  • Update since I posted this video: the car is ready and took it on the first long trip.

I drove it 280 miles round trip plus another 50 miles traveled on dirt roads in the Mojave desert (on 4X4) and it performed just as I was expecting: excellent. On this trip the fuel mileage was 24 mpg. The fuel tank holds 17.5 gallons so the range went up from 275 miles with the stock gasoline engine to 400 miles with the diesel, a 50% improvement. The car is capable of reaching 85 mph but I drove it at 70-75.

  • Hi,

It is (or was) an '86 4 cyl. automatic. I replaced the stock A/T with a 5 speed R151 pulled from an '89 and the bell housing is coming from an '87 turbo. The car has no body lift, the engine fits very tight in enginbe bay, had to put in a slim electric fan and remove the mechanical. Also, had to cut the front to make room for fan and radiator and the X cross under the hood reinforcement to make room for the valve cover front hump. The gas tank and fuel lines are stock, only removed the pump.

  • is that an '88? and did you have to install any body lift to fit the engine? did you leave the transmission in the stock location? thanks
