The same arguments towards non-proliferation were made by members of the British government during Hitler's rise and resulted in WW2. There is far more evidence that more armaments by democratic nations leads to more peace. The members of this movement seem to just be having a visceral reaction towards weapons. if all countries had nukes, any war would become cold although there is the possibility of corruption amongst officials leading to nukes being sold to terrorists etc. Because in theory mankind is so corrupt,we shouldn't have any. But its not that bad to have nukes either as it can be used in worst case scenarios. I mean if you think about it, this whole nuke matter dont really matter at this point as only a handful of countries have nukes and non have been detonated since Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The nukes that are being dismantled are 60+ years old, and obsolete. This guy is nothing more than a political figure head that makes something out nothing.

On a more serious note, Russia is developing a new ICBM, the RS-24. China is increasing its nuclear stockpile steadily. Iran is sure to have nuclear weapons sooner or later. On the other hand, our ICBMs, especially the Minuteman IIIs, are getting obselete.

Honestly, I like to be opptimistic, but we're not gonna get rid of all our nukes. They are, for the US at least, too much a symbol of power. And sometimes, they do work as a deterrent. Most of the time they don't, but sometimes they actually do. Frankly, I think we are going to have to abandon oil and embrace something else.
