You are right college is not for everybody.. If you don't have the GPA, you can start at a community college and get your associate degree and transfer to a university. I have BBA and have not made a lot of money. I have been laid off to long. If you have a degree, it better be in the health, medical,education, social work, computers or engineering.. Im a chemistry major and honestly college is for people who want to work in science and mathematics fields maybe history but for a basic job you don't need college. You can learn most skills in job training. But chemistry is a whole different story its very complex. College is essential for me.

Where in the world do you get those insane odds from? Have you seen the job market? There are many college grads out there that can't get their hands on anything unless they got in early. Even once they get a job unless they got scholarships, their job is paying for their education rather than their living. I ask people to make sure I get everything right. Most of the people I ask got degrees in one field and are working in another.

It's cheaper and hands on experience, which is what they DON'T tell you in a college classroom that you'll need experience to get that job you want. All I do is ask many people I meet about their education. College is getting you ready for a job. Let's make a scenario. So if I got a BA in music I can get a job as a Human Resource Agent? Exactly how do those two play on each other? I've done plenty of job searching and I've have only seen maybe three or four that actually specify what kind of degree you need to obtain to get the job. So for HR I would need a degree, so that means I can get any degree I want and be qualified. You see how stupid that is? Person with at least a GED should be able to do that job.
What I'm getting at is that's how many of they companies set up their ads today. They just say get a degree. So what a person can ready any book in the library, and be super intelligent, but won't even be considered for an interview because they don't have a degree? Society is set up like that because of money. That's all people go to college for is to get a job. Before WWII college was just for extra education and for fun. I'm going through this right now. I have noo and i mean nooo idea what I want to do. my parents will tell me I should go from time to time but they don't look down on me for it. Where in the world do you get those insane odds from? Have you seen the job market? There are many college grads out there that can't get their hands on anything unless they got in early. Even once they get a job unless they got scholarships, their job is paying for their education rather than their living. I ask people to make sure I get everything right. Most of the people I ask got degrees in one field and are working in another.

@jjtiojohn12 This country was build by people who learned a skill, and used it to create jobs for other people. A trade school is way more effective than getting a college degree. It's cheaper and hands on experience, which is what they DON'T tell you in a college classroom that you'll need experience to get that job you want. I work at a tech center, there are many guys in there who are getting big money and they don't have degrees they just have a skill.

All I do is ask many people I meet about their education. College is getting you ready for a job. If you have a business mindset however like me, or you just want to learn a skill and get a job that way then a degree is useless. Three of the biggest employers today, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft, and even Amazon were created by groups of Degreeless men. No arguing against that, a degree does not define you, your intelligence, reliability, or your skill.

@HookemHorns972 if I lose my job I'll start my own but I will start saving my money while at my job that way if I ever lose my job I have the start up fees to create my business if you don't own a car, buy a house, or get married I assure you while having a career you will be able to save alot of money! now if you look through the want ads 20 years ago it was required that you at least have a high school diploma or GED now all jobs now require you to have an AA or BA.

Let's make a scenario. So if I got a BA in music I can get a job as a Human Resource Agent? Exactly how do those two play on each other? I've done plenty of job searching and I've have only seen maybe three or four that actually specify what kind of degree you need to obtain to get the job. So for HR I would need a degree, so that means I can get any degree I want and be qualified. You see how stupid that is? Person with at least a GED should be able to do that job.

What I'm getting at is that's how many of they companies set up their ads today. They just say get a degree. So what a person can ready any book in the library, and be super intelligent, but won't even be considered for an interview because they don't have a degree? Society is set up like that because of money. That's all people go to college for is to get a job. Before WWII college was just for extra education and for fun. You never needed a degree to get a job.

I'm going through this right now. I have noo and i mean nooo idea what I want to do. my parents will tell me I should go from time to time but they don't look down on me for it. I'm suppossed to be starting the cna certificate program in the fall but Im sooooo terrrified of going, I feel like I'm not smart enough. And I dont even want to be a cna. My passion is art, Im talented but its such a hard field to get into. its not realistic. Ugh GOD why cant high school be enough!!!

A college degree does not define a person I have a Uncle who graduated from howard university and got arrested 5 days after his graduation on a gun charge and spent the next 5 years in prison. I think Anybody can make it through college if they try hard enough its not just for the super gifted. I know some people go and don't even choose majors that there not even interested in. College is for those who have the discipline to put in EXTRA work to obtain a specific career that not only pays a lot, but that requires that they have that college degree! Plus, we need ppl to cook our food at fast-food restaurants, we need ppl to deliver our mail, clean public facilities, babysit our children, teach our children, etc... God has a place for everyone and they should thank Jesus for WHATEVER they have and even the things they don't have!

some of the hardest working most disciplined people are not in college and have no interest in college..
Plus look at how many people have college degrees even high level degrees...that are struggling to make ends meet....
The programming they feed you in grade school about college is not accurate and it almost always leads to debt...

All high-school kids should be required to learn a trade instead of taking soo much gym class....if the gov is worried about kids getting too fat then reform food stamps so that their families cant buy whatever they want ...they should only be able to buy healthy food with food stamps..

You know there was this lady who was 78. She worked at the YMCA for 8.50 an hour but they forced her to retire but she couldnt because she couldnt afford to retire. This is what our senior citizens are going through now, just think what we will have to go through when we are 78 and social security is literally vanished.. we will be marching infront of the White House or be left to die.. The fucked up thing about college is that most students go so they can have a good job so that they can buy a nice house and nice things.. but the fact is that they always end up in debt...and end up having to pay a long mortgage on a house...
In my opinion it is better to just get a basic decent job working for a company so that you can completely own a house debt free...then you can afford a lot of the same shit ..marry and have kids after you buy a nice house debt free

You can buy a nice foreclosed house in a middle to upper middle class neighborhood for 90,000 or under right now depending where you live.
ok so 13 years at 20,000 a year = $260,000(gross pay)
If you budget to spend only $600 a month(and live with fam to save on rent) your expenses = $7,200 a year (& = $93,600 in 13 years)
$260,000(13 years gross pay)- $93,000(13 years expenses) = $166,400 (not factoring taxes)

our primary focus should be to acquire a nice house so that they do not have to spend their life paying rent or a mortgage.
from age 16 to age 28 this should be their primary focus... their expenses will go down after they buy a house debt free..then they can save more and go to trade school or save to go to medical school.
If you spend ten years at most companys you should move up to being a manager making at least 30,000 a year.

college is pretty much a scam unless you are going to a trade school, or you want to practice medicine, become a lawyer, teacher , scientist or engineer...
you don't need college to do most things...Instead of spending all that money on classes you could work a basic job starting at age 14 - 24 and you should be able to buy a nice house by then... if you make 14,000 a year in ten years you can move up a class by buying a foreclosed home in an upper middle class neighborhood.

They set up shop in the hoods and own businesses. But with those with degrees we have all people who graduated but we have hardly own anything.
