  • i cant help but feel sorry for the employee trying to convince him that nintendo is best but i know he works for sega america

  • This is video game history we're watching. Gaming has seen nothing before or since, and this is why this rivalry is awesome and so deeply ingrained into video game culture. The Underdog Hedgehog vs. the Champion Plumber. The Hot Young Star vs. the Dependable Veteran. Speed vs Precision. Excitement vs Refinement. Stylish and Cool vs. Cute and Wacky.

  • i think that the super mario world looks a little more fun to me... i was really never a fan of sonic the hedge-hog

  • Sega: Now your playing with put downs. ...wait, wrong commercial.

  • I HATE GENESIS! I prefer only Super Nintendo with Super Mario World as well as my own PS3, DS, XBOX 360, GameCube with Sonic Mega Collection (which had Sonic the Hedgehog as a Playable game), GBC with Jurassic Park and MK&A, Game Gear with World Series Baseball, Wii, PS2 and a Blu-ray Disc Player from Magnavox.

  • F*** SEGA NINTENDO IS BETTER!!!!!!!!

  • I would've bought it but these commercials made the Sega of America seem like total douches!

  • I prefer Mario World but i like sonic too

  • It goes without saying:

Super Mario World > Sonic The Hedgehog 1

  • NOOooo.. Ovah hearrrrr! .. Dx

  • I have to admit super Mario was awesome back then and still is. But sonic had more appeal to me and alot of people. Sonics been having some weird games the last years but still he was just more fun. The speed was awesome.

  • Now days you can't make commercials like these...

I never see a PS3 commercial putting down the 360.

  • @Lianas1980 Yes you can. Though it isn't for game consoles. Verizon did it with AT&T

  • That is why I never got into Nintendo as a kid. It was too slow and the games were so expensive.

  • smelly plumber vs a super kick ass hedgehog i think we all know who wins

  • Nintendo sucks there for 2 year olds

  • Sega does what Nintedon't! JK!!!! NINTENDO KICKS ASS!!

  • @Xeivous Well, Nintendo won in the end, so it all worked out.

  • I'd say that he's not a true gamer for taking Super Mario World, but people did want something new, so I can understand it.

  • are these genesis fanboys pathetic or what!? lying doesnt help your argument.

  • what a agressive pub , love it

  • Sega Genesis is my first console I ever owned as a kid and I still have it and always play it daily!

  • @Indyice16 Fuck yea bitch. I'm getting my sega genesis. I'm 16 and missed a lot of cool games on the genesis. Sega did some amazing things. I'm gad to be a newb at genesis. The only game I played is sonic (who hasn't) but I'm going to collect a lot of cool games and play them.

I had to choose from the genesis and a ps3. I choose genesis. Hell, The games on genesis are more fun and better then most ipod apps. Angry birds < castlevania blood lines. I can't wait to play it. Man, Love the 90's!!!!!

  • OKAY why ise the guy olny advertisng mario WHY NOT BOTH?

  • @Quackers123456789 Because he was trying to sell the Nintendo product wich was more expensive

  • @Codi190 got it but 150 still alot in that day

  • Genesis does what nintendon't

  • this commerical was brillant

  • I love how they take the videogame war into a commercial like this, Mario vs Sonic was the best videogame war of all.

  • atleast commericals made sense back then..sorta

  • @TheMarioo0 not all of them.. lol, this one is just pandering common sense in your face.

  • Uh yeah, back then I didn't mind paying the two hundred bucks for a system that had more better fucking games. I mean who would play a system without Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger? That's just retarded.

  • @TanimeArtist At the time it was like XBox original vs. PS2. Not everyone was obsessed with Rpgs, dude.

  • @TanimeArtist Like anyone circa Fall 1991 knew those games would be coming out for SNES.

  • o man shout out 2 SONIC THE HAMILTON #BASED GAME

  • sega is fackin game

  • Sega is the best n_n

  • Comment removed

  • Mario has more challenge

  • @IcyFlameFilms not for me mario games for me arent that hard compare to some sonic games but that my opionion

  • Ouch.

  • Uh, yeah, Nintendo was way better.

  • I think in Holland it is illegal to use a rivaling brand in your commercial.

  • SNES: Mario World, Link to Past, Super Metroid, Mario Kart, Chrono Trigger.

GENESIS: Sonic 2, Castle of Illusion, Vectorman, Streets of Rage 2, Phantasy Star IV.

And they both have Earthworm Jim so I say they're both the best game system of all time ;)

  • @xHAZELRAHx thats the smartest thing i ever read on the internet

  • Sega were ruthless back in the day.

  • ...is it John Goodman????

  • Press 3 for oh oh oh oh oh oh

press 6 for hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm

    what is he doing??

  • 200$? jeez! That's the same as the gamecube at launch!

  • sega can talk crap about nintendo but sega lost and now works for nintendo

  • never owned a genesis i have no say in this matter. but i do admit the sonic games on the gamecube were pretty good (most of them that i played atleast).

  • though if there was a atari lynx and a snes there would be not competition the snes

  • "...genesis and it costs a lot less" yah cuz a genesis is like $20.00 now a days and a super nes costs like what...? $30.00

  • Comment removed

  • My dad bought me the sega genesis the first day it came out. Lol He spent 600dlls LOL Cause he bought the sega, and 7 games Sonic Merc Quackshot Hockey NBA Spider man Micky mouse Nice !!!
  • "More speed" actually meant unplayable shit... That's why Mario Bros beat Sonic pretty easy.

  • Super Mario World>Sonic the Hedgehog

  • i like more super mario world than sonic the hedgehog to be true!.

  • @BAWK0 choke on a cock

  • @Keywizzle1997 "The genesis only has gay sonic and other shit like that" how old are you kid? you're 14. no wonder. hey kid how about you dont comment on sega vs snes because you were a sperm in your old mans sack when I was playing sonic, ninja gaiden, robocop vs terminator etc. you have no say in the matter.

  • "why did i buy this machine for one game?"

  • how could you resist spring yard zone!?

  • lots of nintendo fags here

  • Super Mario World Was Beter Than Sonic the Hedgehog Super Mario World Had 3 Save Files and im Good at it and it Makes Him Fast Man Wel Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Had Save Files Thats Good

  • @Keywizzle1997 Uhhh... Genesis seems to have a much wider variety of game selection than the SNES in my book.

  • @WumboWarrior Totally I liked the SNES but Sega was boss IMO. they had a lot of adult theme games. Plus their sports games was awesome. Only sports games I liked on the SNES was Super Tecmo Bowl.

  • I'd rather have the SNES.

  • @EvilEightBallz ah I see, you needed it spelt out in nice simple terms did you? Sorry I dont tend to the needs of stupid people ...

  • @EvilEightBallz no i love a good laugh but the joke has to actually be vaguely funny before that happens rather than the joke being a joke in itself ...

  • Sonic OWNS Mario, for mario you have to push a button to run, but sonic he runs automaticly!

  • i would take the super nintendo i didnt give a fucknut about buying the genesis

  • More action , more speed but less third party awesome games.

  • @EvilEightBallz no whats really sad is you thought it'd be funny ...

  • @EvilEightBallz thats because the tv has a video player hooked up to it so the actors could just advertise .... but well done pointing out the obvious ...

  • when it's 1994 YOU'LL BE SORRY!

  • @retrojunkie1983

I believe Japan was the one territory where Genesis could be described as "dying". IIRC, Sega consistently edged out Nintendo in North America well into '95, which was the year Sega of Japan dropped native support for the Genesis and gave out the order to make way for the Saturn.

  • @retrojunkie1983

I'm not going to get into which was the better console for gaming, but would point out that even if the SNES had a good year in 1994, the PlayStation was released in 1995 and was leagues ahead of the SNES in terms of power (had some good launch titles too), so if SNES was top dog in console sales it wasn't for long.

  • cool they have big tv back then?!

  • Wow i barely notice that Super Mario World and Sonic The Hedgehog came out in the same year.

  • This shits like xbox and ps3

  • @PlXer0 Same shit different year.

  • "Sega Genesis, is a lot more for less" EPIC WIN!!!!

    SEGA and MEGA DRIVE 4ever!

  • this is when the rivalry must of had started

  • @JamelMayo

No, the rivalry started when SEGA made ads for the Genesis that said "Genesis does what Nintendon't."

  • if the tv came with the system for free, i'll buy it.

  • ok ofcourse genesis fuck mario cuz i know that already

  • tääl mökillä on samanlainen

  • @TheMastercheat123 Meijän mökillä ei oo edes sähköjä :(

  • "Wooow. He's Fast!" Sums up today's society

  • 149.99 Wow! I saw one of these in a yard sale for $5. No Joke. Capital OMG I wonder how much my PS3 will be if I put it in a yard sale 20 years from now.

  • @justinikkifeb14 probably nothing, cause I doubt there would be any working PS3 after 20 years. They don't make consoles with the quality they used to.

  • Mario disliked this 8 times.

  • No over heating? Those old consoles don't overheat.

  • @BLOKHEADPRODUCTIONS Nooo, over heeeeeeeeere!

  • Nooo,mover heeeeeeeere!

  • You will never see a Genesis advert without Sega mentioning something like 'Nintendo Sucks' but yet the SNES games they had shown to compare the Genesis games were down right awesome

  • @mrlego102

    Look the Donkey Kong add

  • Does anyone else think he was trying to sell the SNES because it cost more?

  • Damn "SEGA" was very aggressive towards any competition that where trying 2make a name 4 them selfs they where the mafia of the 16-Bit era...LOL

  • 0:12 Notice he says, ".....look at these radical colors...." That guy really knows his stuff. SNES was the most colorful console.

  • NOO, over here... XD

  • That was a battle that Sega won D:

if only they've won the war...

  • @vagoperezoso Now now.. Let's be honest about this..

Sonic would be a lot better (read "faster") if all levels were like Green Hill Zone..

    You know it's true.

    Still a phenomenal game ofcourse ;}

But Mario did a better job at what Mario was supposed to do, and be, then Sonic.

Also, content wise Mario wins hands down.

  • @godverdegodverdomme yes, Mario has been truly a revolutionary game at all parts of history, be it in NES, in Nintendo64, in VisualBoy, i'm not a Sega fanboy I know that Nintendo won the war because they were smarter

  • @godverdegodverdomme I also don't think it helped Sega that their commercials tried to compare both systems by using exaggerations ("Blast processing") when the SNES was superior in almost every way. Sega should have expended the same energy on telling us how good their exclusive games are. Like their Eternal Champions commercial, that was a funny one.

  • @dbnydnvn Yeah, Sega were a bunch of trolls back then :P

I do like their better consoles, and I appreciate their game library.. But kicking sand in the eyes

of the competition, without being able to really fight back definitely isn't one of their revered

    courses of action.

  • @dbnydnvn Just to ask, what is Blast Processing?

  • @AWAChamp619 A marketing ploy :(

  • @AWAChamp619 Technical answer: I don't know. Practical answer: absolutely nothing.

  • @AWAChamp619 Blast Processing was a hallow, gimmick term Sega ran out to the public that was non existent. They came up with the term to fool the masses in thinking their inferior product was better.

  • @Woblesavvy Sega Genesis Is Alot Beter So Is Sonic Sonic Is The Greatest Video Game Character Of All Time Your Talking To His Number 1 Fan

  • @TakerTV1 HA! snes was capable of processing 3D polygons.Starfox,Vortex,Stunt Race FX.nothing even close to that for genesis.genesis technology peaked in '91,snes was still releasing games in '98.and the sound sucked on the genesis.the epic musical scores of FF2,FF3,Actraiser,ect. added a lot to those games.the snes was superior in every way.

  • @2frenchfrog They were capable of processing 3d polygons with extra chips attached to the game cartridges, that is hardly a fair comparison.

  • @2frenchfrog HA! genesis is a legendary system, many people think that the first mario game was on the N64!

  • @2frenchfrog Ever heard of Virtua Racing? The 3D on that game owns the Super FX chip anyway, only Super FX2 for some unreleased games like Star Fox 2 could compare, the sound doesn't suck, it's just a different style. Streets of Rage 2, Vectorman 1 and 2, All the Sonics and more have amazing soundtracks, as for peaking in '91, are you saying Sonic 1 looks the same as Sonic 3 & Knuckles? Cause if you do, you're clearly blind. And does SNES have backwards compatability? No. AND I'm out of chars :(

  • @PrrrromotionGiven its funny you should mention the composer of the music from streets of rage 2,because the soundtrack from actraiser easily owns anything on genesis, and guess who composed it!? guess he got better results with the better hardware, huh?and Virtua racing was a flop, not for the quality of the title, because it was quite good, but because they were over a hundred bucks a pop,and no one wanted to pay almost as much as the system itself.the genesis needed massive hardware add-ons-con-

  • @PrrrromotionGiven -con- to boost the system to process polygons, your precious Virtua racing was almost a console in itself.Starfox,Vortex, stunt race fx,ect.,they had a chip to take some of the load off the processor, thats all.so you see,Virtua racing was the best they could do while trying to keep thegames price down, and it was STILL too expensive, wich is why they only made this one.even virtua fighter on gen was 2d.

  • @PrrrromotionGiven though,I guess if you were half as right as you think you are,we would be buying Nintendo games on a sega console right now, wouldnt we.

  • @2frenchfrog Wow 3 comments, this could take a while lol my point was that it could do 3D polygons when yo seemed to be using that as an advantage for SNES, and VR was $80, not over $100, so it wasn't crazy-expensive. I'm gonna check out actraiser later on to see what you mean, then I'll decide on that. And this isn't PS2 vs Dreamcast we're talking here, it's Genesis/Mega Drive vs SNES, so the fact that Sega is now 3rd Party, and only makes Hardwre for Arcades, is irrelevant.

  • @PrrrromotionGiven whoa,now im sure your just a muppet.here-

    ImplementationsMain article: Virtua Racing

At the time of release, the SVP was set to raise the cost of the Virtua Racing cartridges (the game cost £70 in the UK, and $100 in the U.S.), which can be seen as a major reason why the SVP was only used in Virtua Racing. Sega of America started to develop the 32X expansion console around that time.- thats from wikipedia,dickhead.80$ huh, liar.its actually over 100$ AMERICAN in 1994!!!

  • @2frenchfrog Hmmm, I should stop getting my numbers from Hobo's...

  • @SakataRendeva well, guys like Prrromotiongiven make shit up as they go along.everything I said is easily verifiable.not to mention the fallacy of being recommended one of the two consoles that destroyed sega, despite the very excellent dreamcast wich I think still had the best quake 3 arena port, sonic adventure, ect.I dont know wich was the bigger piece of shit, the 32x or the cd.

  • @PrrrromotionGiven also, the fx2 chip was released on multiple games.yoshis island, doom, ect. used fx2.not to mention all the custom chips that were created for games like megaman x2,star ocean,to push the audio and visuals to the limits.so,yes,it actually was released.and im not sure where your getting your info.sounds like another genesis fanboy making shit up as he goes.

  • @2frenchfrog Chips for Audios? Well, lets say that for every game they put that on, it increases the price by $10. That seems resonable to me. Now, I've seen gameplay of MMX2, and it looks awesome, but the smoothness of the game can't compare to either of the Vectorman games, neither of which need a chip. As for sound, if it's really so important to have good quality sound to you, then you may as well get a CD-based system, like the Sega CD. If you want a list of great Sega CD games, just ask...

  • @PrrrromotionGiven well, you can theorize that elephants shit leprechauns for all I care.or,you can look it up.and as for buying a sega cd,I would rather consume my own feces.my genesis was never deflowered by that flaming piece of crap.are you ten years old or something?see, you like it better than snes.good for you.snes was still superior, still outsold genesis despite being 3 years younger, still had better graphics, still had better sound, still had better ports.I had em both, its obvious you didnt

  • @2frenchfrog Wikipedia is the least accurate site of that type you can get. SNES vs Genesis remains the closest console war to date in terms of who sold more consoles, it's a little less than 40 million for Genesis and a little less than 50 million for SNES from my knowledge. While SNES was >2< years younger than Genesis, it also remained in production 2-ish years after Genesis was discontinued to focus on Saturn, and since you pretty much ask for it, here's a Sega CD great game list coming up.

  • @PrrrromotionGiven

Nintendo moved 49.1 million Super NES consoles over the course of the generation and beyond, far surpassing the Genesis, which sold a still impressive 29 million units. Why is being 20 million behind Nintendo impressive? Because this was the last generation before videogames went mainstream thanks to the marketing prowess of Sony. It's also impressive because in the previous generation, SEGA was decimated by Nintendo. this is from IGM,everyone else says the same.douche.

  • @PrrrromotionGiven the least acurrate site of that "type"?! what type would that be!? ok.Ill tell you what, get your mom to change your diety, give you a fresh bib,and come back in ten years when you have matured enough to have a logical conversation.your a lying retard and recommending the sega cd is absolute proof of your simple, silly ass nature.have you ever even bothered to see what others actually think of that piece of shit !? uh,no.ignore it and drone on,you obnoxious little dipshit.

  • @2frenchfrog Wikipedia is a Data Storage and Information site. What the hell is a "diety"? Not once have I said the SNES is bad. It's Excellent. Frankly, you could pick any console on the market in 1991 and I'd be happy to own it. I just prefer Genesis. While NES outsold MS about 9:1, that was still good enough to get Sega 2nd place despite a failure in Japan at the time. I've seen tons of people talk about the SCD. AVGN hates it, Mark Bussler loves it, and I think it's OK. Out of space again D:

  • @2frenchfrog Adventures of Batman and Robin, Android Assault, BC racers, Dune, Earthworm Jim CD, Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2, Final Fight CD, Lunar 1 and 2, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, NHL '94, Pitfall: Mayan Adventure, Robo Aleste, Sega Classics 5-in-1, Silpheed (Love that one), Snatcher, Solfeace, Sonic CD (everyone likes this game), The Terminator and Vay are all Sega CD games at least worth having, plus remember the SCD can play Audio CDs so if you have one you dont need a CD-player in the house.

  • @vagoperezoso won the battle? in what content or sales?

  • @jfachris obviously in sales, that's truly what a "console war" is about

  • @jfachris obviously in sales, that's truly what a "console war" is about

  • @vagoperezoso Sega lost both. Sales and content.

  • @jfachris They COULD have won, if they hadn't released those god awful ad-ons for the Genesis. No wonder why many people overlooked the Saturn and went over to the Playstation and N64.

  • @Thematt7890 you do realise that the playstation was created in the first place because of nintendo making a CD add on that was so bad that it almost cost them th egame wars. and th eonly reason sega quit was because of the playstation games. so it was Sony that won, not nintendo

  • @jfachris NO, Sega won in sales and content you smartass that tries to look clever putting periods at the end of your phrases, it was in the 3D era that they began to fall

  • @vagoperezoso Genesis does what Nintendon't.....except making new counsles

    NINTENDO!

  • @vagoperezoso Ummm, the SNES outsold the Genesis 10:4. Unless you meant the early part where Sega were winning, if so then I'm not sure who I would rather have won...

  • @SakataRendeva 10:4? I'll give you that SNES outsold Genesis worldwide, but that was because Japan rated Nintendo as GODS at the time, you may have the Japan figures there. Worldwide it's more like 10:9 or something like that, and in just about every country except Japan, Genesis/Mega Drive outsold SNES. I'm not saying Genesis/Mega Drive is better, since they're both f***ing AWESOME consoles, but you have got your figures a bit messed up...

  • @PrrrromotionGiven I just checked the numbers, SNES sold 49 million worldwide, Genesis sold 29 million worldwide, so it's more a 6:10 ratio.

  • @SakataRendeva I just checked myself and I saw that Genesis sold 40 million worldwide, making it 8:10 in the SNES' favour. Or, if you count Sega/Mega CD and 32X sales for the Genesis/Megadrive (which I personally don't) you end up with a 19:20 ratio, a tiny diference of less than 2.5 million

  • genesis is better always

  • segas fucking cockyyy

  • I like Sonic The Hedgehog on Genesis pretty well. But Super Mario World on SNES? I SAID GODDAMN! What an AMAZING-spectacular-badass-fantastic-I'm-running-out-of-descriptions-GREAT game!! Nintendo DOES! (Note: I still love Genesis ALOT)

  • This is a time when you owned both systems. They were both awesome. Now a days it's either an Xbox or PS3.

  • Thumbs up if TSSZ brought you here!

  • Well I'm glad after 20 years of fighting each other, Sonic & Mario have came to a truths on Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games =]

  • sega didn't have a monthly magazine (that I knew of) to tell you what the hell was going on like nintendo did. That's why i got a nintendo.

  • @luno44 Yeah, you wouldn't know if Sega had a videogame magazine because you were set in buying a Nintendo. The magazine was named "Visions" and it ran from 1990 to 1995. Your magazine argument doesn't work.

  • @PurifierUnitBreakman NP came out 2 years before Visions. That's a long time for kids. Within that time, I had already started collecting Nintendo stuff. I wasn't about to also start collecting Sega when their magazine commercials started. Although I don't remember a single Visions commercial.

  • @luno44 actually they did. It was called Sega Visions.

  • "What's that one over there?"

    "Oh, uh...the Atari Lynx."

    "...fuck that."

"Now we're on the same wavelength."

  • @TheHelldragon You should have replaced "Lynx" with "Turbografx 16".

  • 20th anniversary for sonic

  • Sega couldn't sell anything without to comapare itself to Nintendo those days? Didn't they trust in their product? Or they just wanted to be Nintendo. They're both great, neither needed to minimize the other to sell more.

  • Sega does What Ninte-don't...Like fucking up their number one Mascot . :-l

  • It seems like this commercial is more of a "this game sucks get this one its much better" kind of thing saying that "Don't buy sonic it sucks, mario is 10x better!"

  • yea a genesis is like 20 bucks now

  • @scompieie yeah and a snes boxed or nes boxed 50 to 500 depends the set

  • @scompieie yeah i no its crazy

  • @BAWK0 what??? i'm not a dumbass, dude -_-

  • @BAWK0 I don't have time for this.

  • @BAWK0 Cheer up, kid.

  • @PigsCanFly2day Who the fuck's ever going to believe that a simple word caused a fucking terrorist attack? Where that fucker gets it, I will never fucking know.

  • @BAWK0 It's not wrong. Girls are called kids too. Boys are called boys as well. I don't understand why you have such a problem with the english language, particularly the word "kid".

  • @BAWK0 I can tell.

  • @BAWK0 Whether he's male or not, he's still a young person & as such he can be considered a kid.

  • @BAWK0 Wow, you really have issues.

kid = "a young person; especially : child —often used as a generalized reference to one especially younger or less experienced"

Maybe you should look in a dictionary too.

  • @BAWK0 The name is obviously a gimmick. SEGA doesn't want Nintendo and Sony to know that they've designed a game tablet to compete against 3DS and NGP so they're using the name KIDSPAD to pass the device off as a family friendly i-pad.

  • I take them both SNES and GENESIS.

  • Nintendo=Bloods Sega=Crips

  • Nintend=Crips Sega=Crips

I like both Nintendo and Sega so don't be hatin

  • I don't like sega much but found this ad amusing lol

  • cheaper never means better......
