Thanks for posting this. Our 4 year old Golden does this maybe 3 times a year. He did it longer than normal tonight and had us scared. He looks exactly like Bailey Jayne when she is having one of those "fits". Makes me feel better that it's not serious. Thanks again.

@bwaltsw30 I'm glad I could help! When all of this started with Bailey there were so few videos of this and the ones that were on here were all smaller breeds. Considering Bailey is my everything, I know all too well how terrifying this can be... Fortunately, these don't happen nearly as often anymore. Flare-ups are easily managed with a low dose of Benadryl or a short, small breath into the snout :) (Reminder to Everyone: check with your vet before giving medications)

Thank you for posting this, now I won't freak out next reverse sneeze from my lab puppy! I tried to video her to show the vet what I was talking about. But you clearly show it here. Thanks!

I have a 4 yr old black lab, took him to the vet to get his blood work done and heart wormed checked because he started doing this 2 days ago and it freaked me out, thought he was having a heart attack cause it seemed like he couldnt breathe, called the emergency and spoke to Judy who told me to go to u tube, reverse sneezing, she saved me the anxiety i was feeling cause i thought my baby was croaking! Its freaky and scarey and i think it freaks them out too when they have those! Poor babies..

Just a quick update for anyone watching this: Bailey was taken to see the vet who confirmed this is Reverse Sneeze Syndrome - and it's completely harmless.

Reverse Sneeze Syndrome is the equivalent of a human deeply and quickly inhaling through their nose to clear their sinus cavity. Bailey still has the occasional episode, but all is well with this fur baby :)

I have a golden as well, she'll be 4 years old in November. She just started doing this after I picked her up from the kennel after a 6 day stay. So I thought it was kennel cough at first...but she sounds & looks just like Bailey. Thanks for posting this! I'm still going to have to take her to the vet because of my paranoia....but I appreciate it nonetheless. Thanks again!

I was so scared when my dog started doing this earlier this afternoon, after he stopped I offered him some water, and went to the internet to find what was wrong with him, when i stumbled accross reverse sneezing I went straight to youtube, and what I found was a bunch of different dogs making a bunch of different noises, then i found this, and it sounds the same. Thanks (my dog is a golden reitriever aswell)

No, I checked it up on the internet, but I sure wanted to call the vet, I was very scared.

Went to the vet, he said don't worry. It could be lots of things, but probably isn't. Allergy is most common cause, keep from sniffing and snooping too much. If lots of regular sneezing have vet look up nose for foreign bodies. Could be collapsed trachea, but mostly in small dogs. Bottom line many dogs do this and it is generally nothing to worry about..........I would say go to vet if your dog seems to be feeling ill or out of sorts of his/her normal behavior.
