Great song and fantastic sounding guitar!! I have about 200 songs written. Only problem is, it's only 2 verses, and then I stare at the wall for an hour before putting down the guitar and pencil and say "I'll get back to this". They all sound great, but I'm like a starting pitcher who only goes 6 innings. I need middle relief and a closer to finish the job!!!
Well the newer ones aren't much if you ask the private repair people for either brand. The Martin's ought to sould better since a good old one is harder to find and will cost you 2 to 3 times more. They've come out with their Tiawanny models too haven't they. No, Martin's are for church and make sure you have a mic or some kind of pick-up because they don't carry in a larger space then a few hundred square feet. Now Gibson is an American sound with a deep, rich, ringing tone it's prefered!
Very distinct sound to it different than the Gibsons. Martin has a deep rich tone that's more for formal playing. Tone is deep and rich, solid but doesn't fluctuate a whole lot but just a great sound all it's own. It sounded great on this song that would of sounded better on a Hummingbird. This guitar goes better with certain styles of music like religious. The Gibsons are more a broader country sound and great for popular music also with a tone that fluctuates more with a ring.
@kennyembry LOL Gibson can't touch a Martin, and its not fluctuates. I think you mean sustain. The bass and ring of a Martin are the best. Martins are the greatest guitars ever made for any music. Thats why they been here since 1833. Gibson guitars are tinny. Some of the old Gibson had some bass in them. A Gibson Hummingbird are junk. The new Gibson's are junk. Gibson today are no better then Taylor. Go listen to Tony Rice and tell me Martins don't fluctuate, sustain and ring.
That says it all...I've got a 30 year old FG-335 and it sounds absolutely first rate; a lot depends on how a guitar is played as well...a D-28 can sound fairly ordinary in certain hands.
@clean3 Agreed. And the FG-335 can make world-class music, in world-class hands. When Mississippi John Hurt was re-discovered in the 60s, the rich young hippies gave him his choice of any guitar in Guitar Emporium, in Boston. Full of vintage 000s, OMs, Dreadnaught Martins, Gibsons -- but Mississippi John, after trying them all, chose a partly-laminated used Guild. Said, "This be fine." And it was. : )
@thenetslug I was just about to mention Elliott and his Yamaha. I have a Yamaha FG 180 the one he used to use and it has a truly incredible tone. Elliott could have made a broom stick soung amazing though.
@whitestripebuzz Agreed. I have a FS720S. It cost me $250. Every time I go to GC and I play a high end Taylor or Martin it just reminds me of it. Awesome guitar.
who knows?? if somebody ' ve got an Answer 'bout my stolen "145317"in Strasbourg ,France,??? thanks .also many thanks to you Jd marcus for that good singing and playing, P
well this is me jdmarcus59, and i have been playing my HD28 for over 2 mo. now and it is nice and broken in now, i switch of between martin med. and DAddario med. and have chosen the DAddario as my perment strings, they are both pretty close, but the D,Addario sound better and feel better, the new slim line neck on the HD28 plays very very well, you cant stop playing it once you start, and the sound is just great, I,ll always keep my Taylor but its been in the closet sence the day my martin came
Get a great kick out of guys who say they have a Yamaha or Ovation that sounds better than a Martin. First of all Yamaha makes a pretty good guitar, Ovation is not even good enough to be called a guitar. If either guitar sounded better than a Martin I would have one, instead of my 1958 d18 [bought it new] Martin. When you learn how to play you'll be able to tell the difference.
Ovations piss me off to no end. My first acoustic guitar was an Ovation Celebrity. No one informed me that the thing would constantly slide off your lap if you sit down to play it, plastic backed p.o.s.
@Hoopskidoodle I agree with the ovations. I had 1 and felt like I was wrestling an aligator the entire time. It was the only guitar I ever owned where I had to wear a strap when sitting down!! It's an interesting sound, and fits some songs, but I can't play the damn things and got rid of it after a month when I figured out I would never get comfortable with it. As far as choosing a guitar. Sound and Playability. (is that a word?) I will opt for slightly lesser sound if plays much easier.
Great Video, I have been a drummer for 25 years just started playing guitar last Oct and love it. The main reason I started playing was because my father in law has willed his old guitar to my wife, she wanted it because as a little girl he played for her every night. I did some research and it is a 1957 d-28 in the green lined case, he bought it used in 1962 for $125!!!!!!!!! He is still alive but if he dosen't let me play the thing soon he may have a unfortunate accident.
I've got a 1968 model yamaha that sounds better than a lot of martins i've heard, and I have a 08 HD 28, is louder and has a little more tone and really will with years to come but there aint no 2000 dollar sound difference, also have a 1956 j45 gibson guitar and it dont sound as good as the yamaha. Martin is pretty much the best in my opinion, all the different guitars are made with their different woods and depends on which model, the 35 and 45 has nothin to do with aged wood.
i know its a cheap martin,but ever played a dx1rgt?best sounding/playing acoustic Ive ever played,better than $2000 Gibsons,$1000 ovations...its a really great guitar.
I just bought a martin HD28 today and I love it, I also have a taylor, and the martin sounds much better hands down, but one thing you have to understand about martins, is that they are the harley davidsons of guitars, and just like a hog, they will allways hold there value, and as the years goby they will go up in valve
Great song. I am french and cant understand all the lyrics. Could any body send me the lyrics and some informations (title, author...) on this song. I could possibly work on it with pupils in a grammar school where i teach. Thanks
Dear ViciousMaximous I see that your name is well chosen. Know that i dont teach music or english but economics and law. What we do with my pupils is just share some songs and tips at midday. Some friends gave me some help. I dont thank you for yours !
Verse: It's like saving money... E 022100 Asus2 X02200 Repeat that 8 times Chorus: When you see me running... B7 X21202 F#m7 242222 ASus2 X02200 E 022100 ESus 022200 E 022100 Play twice Then he starts all over again
Don't dis the Yamaha, I have a 1975 Yamaha FG450SA, solid spruce top, walnut back and sides (split back), ebony fretboard and bridge, sounds very close to a Martin D28. Good song by the way.
The older ones ALWAYS sound better because the wood ages and opens up over the years. that's why Martin makes their instruments out of aged wood (D-28 is made out of 28 year old wood, D-35 from 35 yr old wood etc.). Give er 20 or 30 years and that yamaha will sound real good. Never had a problem with tuning on a yamaha, probably needs a neck setup.
ha ha...the f335 yamaha is a $149 practice toy. loks exactly like d28 though, which i hope to buy next, if my wristr ever gets better (heals), and my interest and improvement in guitar gets better. still havet played anything yet.
