Super boring. Sounds like a practice workout, scales, there`s no point to it. sort of like Frank Gambale but more boring, but Frank can also get tedious at times, but his solos are somewhat melodic. These guys need to stick with rhythmic riffs, its what they do best, and short solos within a song
@whotubedwhat i guess it could, but it's not meant to and he is 100% not playing it without delay. Its written to play with delay and he never played it without, why would he anyway, it's still brilliant. As for ripping of AC/DC... Fuck no
@whotubedwhat Dude, relax. I've been an Extreme-fan my entire life and I know for a fact that Nuno is using a delay-pedal while playing this. Besides, you don't have to be a genious to hear that it is delay ;) Still though, I think Nuno could rip this one of without delay if he wanted to...
@kisshog You are correct about the delay....it's been well documented by him and the guitar magazines. It's most obvious when he rolls into the tapping sections and it almost sounds like the lines are being played in harmony.
@whotubedwhat you can clearly see that he is using delay, most obvious part being during the tapping bit, he's only tapping 16th notes and you can hear it as semiquavers
@whotubedwhat most things that use delay like this cannot be played without the delay effect. since delay repeats everything you play, you'd have to be playing a repetition of passed notes simultaneously with the progressing melody.
This DOES use delay, that's not a bad thing though. It's still very tricky and you have to be really on the ball with timing, if you fall behind the delay or the backing track, you're screwed. I'm actually trying to learn this now, and it's well fun :)
@CLdrums yh i learned with at school and it makes your fingrs bleed :) but althought it takes ages to learn and get timings and shizz its so much funn :D
@whotubedwhat he is playing it with a delay pedal, that a FACT. You can't play this without the pedal. But it does not matter if it is hard to play or not, the impressive part is that he came up with the whole thing.
He has enough other solos out there without any type of effect to prove he absolute trashes most of your heroes with his ability. Probably the most underrated guitarist of all time. As for the effects on this song, delay doesn't magically create notes. You still have to play them...
Kirk Hammett won Guitarist of the Year like 5 times with the worst solos ever made. I never heard the bandwagon out there cry about his excessive use of the wah pedal to hide his actual inability to play the guitar.
In many cases, it is harder to use delay and synch in with your playing then to actually play the note the delay simulates... so shut the fuck up to all the haters! Nuno Bettencourt rocks, he probably rocked your mammas too!
Does anyone in this comment section understand why he uses the delay at all? He's not trying to stump us by using it, and clearly uses the deley effect quite well. We all know how fast he can actually play, although let's try and concentrate on the artistic value here folks. The fact remains that his technical ability to move his fingers even in this tempo is quite impressive. Delay or not...I think it sounds pretty damn cool!
@BlackT0othGrin That's right. Nuno's ass-arms are known to be very long. They reach the guitar around him from his ass and that's how he plays with the guitar hanging so low.
Also, I don't know if anyone noticed this but the notes in the beginning are the same notes as Thunderstruck by AC/DC and then end notes are literally the exact notes from Eruption, with some dimished arpeggios thrown in. There is nothing orginial or technical about this guitar piece... really. Educate yourself instead of blindly following
Dear: halfwits who don't know what a delay pedal is or does. A delay pedal can replay/echo a note that you just played. It can't play the next note in your song for you. If you sleep better at night thinking that this is somehow faked with a delay, well, fine, but perhaps you should just practice more or take sleeping pills instead.
@theanthill1001 You do understand that there are many technical articles - by Guitar World Magazine - that explain that this IS a delay pedal with videos even showing how to get the correct setting? You can't even argue with this. Nuno himself, has published articles explaining how to set up the deley, and for the record, if you listen, the notes are chasing, not leading. Delay Time .200 milliseconds, while playing 16th notes. It's the same effect on "Every Breath I Take." Halfwit.
@avidmoviefan *sigh* - Ok fine. I'll try to explain myself a little clearer, on the slim chance you might understand. Of course there's a delay there. Of course it's an important part of the sound. I'll even concede that it adds to the sense of super-speedy playing. But there's a BIG difference between that, and between thinking that the delay is somehow faking the song for him. Like he's playing a few notes and the delay is doing the rest of the work, which is what a lot of the comments...
@theanthill1001 How about I just do a YouTube video showing you how wrong you are. 16th notes, same as Def Leppard basslines. The deley is literally faking the song, and it covering up the stolen Angus Young, Yngiwie, and Van Halen riffs as well. Learn to read music, get the sheet music, look at it and then realize how fucking stupid you are for being conned.
@avidmoviefan Ok. Fine. Look I really don't care that much, and I don't care if people like or dislike this song, I don't really think it's anything special. Can't believe I've been sucked into such a stupid argument, but here we are. How about YOU get a dictionary and look up the word 'faked' and have a think about the meaning of the word. I know the difference between using a delay as an integral part of the sound, and something being fake. I don't need a guitar magazine or youtube video...
@theanthill1001 I know my friend Steve bought some Salvador Dali etchings on a cruise ship on his honeymoon. They were legitimate Dali's but someone had - for some reason - signed them with Dali's signature, and even though they were real etchings they were considered "faked." Same thing here. You got sucked into this stupid arguement because you called everyone who disagreed with you a halfwit. As it turns out you were just uneducated to the facts. Halfwit.
@avidmoviefan Yes! Thankyou! Finally I understand how I've been duped by a FAKE. What a scandal! Hahaa Salvador Dali etchings blah blah, 200 miliseconds blah blah... what a horrendous trick. I have been so badly conned by that fraud Nuno and his Delay Pedal, and finally you are here to show me the truth. Here's the thing. EVERY point you make says only this: This Piece Is Slightly Less Impressive Than It Initially Seems. Why on earth does that equal 'fake'???. Once again, get a dictionary.
@theanthill1001 No it's impressive for sure. I would love to fool the planet into thinking I can play 20 times better than I really can. When this song came out there was no internet to call him out, people thought he was playing every note. I remeber very clearly. Then it came out in Guitar World that it was delay and everyone was pissed. Then everyone saw that it was actually all stolen riffs, and voila no more career for Nuno. It happened, look it up. I have a bridge for sale....
@theanthill1001 No see this is 2011, back when people found out, there wasnt an internet, it spread across the country... took time, it didn't take three seconds for the world to find out and get over it in another three seconds. People used their brains instead of getting their facts from idiots like you on youtube channels.
@avidmoviefan ...to back me up. You really don't get what I'm saying, because it's NOT that there isn't a delay here, and it's NOT that it isn't a major part of the sound. I've wasted enough of my brain here. Over and out.
@theanthill1001 yeah, and I wasted $150,000 on an education from Berklee, everyone knows that. It's you that doesn't get what i am saying, trust me. Any kid with $20 for a guitar lesson, a delay pedal, and a couple Angus, Van Halen, and Malmsteen riffs can play this. It's first year guitar. I never said Nuno wasn' amazing. He can fucking play, but in this case it's the delay playing it for him
@rockztar5150 REALLY? u heard John P play this particular composition?
This is a Nuno composition what u may b refering to is either John Petrucci playing the Rimsky-Korsakov Flight of the Bumblebee or his composition Bite of the Mosquito. I've heard him play both, but never this piece of music.
It is actually possible to play this solo without the delay box. It just requires picking twice as fast. One day, when I have time, I will do it and record it.
@StreetFighter2010 haha i doubt you will my friend.. some of those scales would be nearly impossible to pick that quickly thats why he uses a delay. but more power to you if you can!
There are 4 dislikes for this...... how can anyone dislike this???? Oh right, too many Lady Gaga fans accidentally found this vid of someone with real talent.
it would only sound right with delay thats why he did it with delay.. trying to play this without delay would be impossible and would sound scrappy most likey.. its harder than you think. lots of people can play this, but really badly, and they make it sound like a train wreck...
@soulstice99 Paul Gilbert is a great guy and he's very humble. But, he shows off too much. I love his music and his shredding but I personally find Nuno a much better player, but this is just my opinion
WHAT RELALY PISSES ME OFF is people saying " THIS SOLO has this or that ecffect.. bla bla..." NOBODY TALKS about the composition, the creativity of all this. jUST BEING ABLE TO THINK SOMETHING LIKE THIS, is it reverb or not, which is actually the really strong point, beside the technique of course. that's where NUNO shows the really legend he is.
@bottazzo77 From wikipedia: "Flight of the Bumblebee" is an orchestral interlude written by Nikolai Rimsky- Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, composed in 1899–1900" - "Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee" is Nuno's remake of this piece. He did not compose this, he didn't create this, he is using a time synched delay, set at 60,000 / 180 = milliseconds. His picking speed is the same as twice the speed of Mary Had a Little Lamb 16th notes, guitar lessons day 3. He fooled YOU
@soulstice99 theyre both great but totally different musicians. theyre in a different "workfield" (no i do not mean genre wise ass's ;-) ) i'm a big fan of both. i doubt paul would get THAT amount of views though!
No he is NOT miming that. The secret is that this song is not as difficult to play as it first sounds. Listen carefully and you can hear that many of the notes being played are actually generated by the amp from delay and reverb settings.
Which means he is only hitting the strings for about 1 out of every 3 or 4 notes that you hear. The difficulty in playing this song is the planning stages and the timing to ensure there isn't too much overlap or it would be highly distorted
I wouldn't call this "easy", however, it is much easier than it first sounds. Once you understand that many of the notes are delay/reverb generated by the amp you also realize that you only have to be an amazing guitar player to play this song, which Nuno is.
However, without knowing there are special effects involved, you might assume you had to be super human, imagining someones fingers moving at near light speeds.
@vinbeers not that easy ...you must play it in the perfect timming from start to end ... if u pick a single note at wrong time the delay will mess up the sound.
@vinbeers not superhuman speeds.....because both Nuno and I both could play that fast all the time,...we have, and we've both played much faster than that I'm sure entirely...however,..even if you try to duplicate this amazing solo...try it however you want to..... you may find it's easier to actually just play it at full speed, instead of the crazy timing Nuno demonstrated here with his totally awesome solo....which also adds for a more 3 dimensional and spaced out effect instead of 2-d :)
@vinbeers The genius of this is how he manages to stay perfectly in time with the dlay pattern, the click helps, obviously, but it's still quite a remarkable feet to perform. Nuno has a the right hand to die for.
@vinbeers some girls moves some fingers at nearly speed of sound o.O - that maybe the reson the track is embedded in heman woman hater - bad jokes apart, thx for the headup i thought the "phantom notes" were arpiggiated instead reverb/delayed
For those who comment "it's just a delay trick".:.it does not straightforwardly imply this is *easy*. Your coordination must be 100% perfect, or it all will turn into a mess. And for the real "fligh", check out Jennifer Batten...
Super boring. Sounds like a practice workout, scales, there`s no point to it. sort of like Frank Gambale but more boring, but Frank can also get tedious at times, but his solos are somewhat melodic. These guys need to stick with rhythmic riffs, its what they do best, and short solos within a song

I know Nuno personally, and I can tell you, without a doubt, that, that he really is that fast on the fretboard, and that is no playback!

Say what you like, but that is talent and it's live. Happy days!

it would only sound right with delay thats why he did it with delay.. trying to play this without delay would be impossible and would sound scrappy most likey.. its harder than you think. lots of people can play this, but really badly, and they make it sound like a train wreck...

@soulstice99 maybe if he did it without delay he would.... 8ths in 200BPM isn't really impessive for a "shredder"

@soulstice99 Paul Gilbert is a great guy and he's very humble. But, he shows off too much. I love his music and his shredding but I personally find Nuno a much better player, but this is just my opinion

bottazzo77 5 months ago
WHAT RELALY PISSES ME OFF is people saying " THIS SOLO has this or that ecffect.. bla bla..." NOBODY TALKS about the composition, the creativity of all this. jUST BEING ABLE TO THINK SOMETHING LIKE THIS, is it reverb or not, which is actually the really strong point, beside the technique of course. that's where NUNO shows the really legend he is.
bottazzo77 5 months ago 25
He fooled YOU
avidmoviefan 3 months ago
@soulstice99 theyre both great but totally different musicians. theyre in a different "workfield" (no i do not mean genre wise ass's ;-) ) i'm a big fan of both. i doubt paul would get THAT amount of views though!

Sounds too perfect.... is he miming that..?
niceguypants 1 year ago
@niceguypants
Nahhhh
I think he is just too good! xD
lmsc 1 year ago
@niceguypants
The difficulty in playing this song is the planning stages and the timing to ensure there isn't too much overlap or it would be highly distorted
vinbeers 1 year ago
That was f*cking epic
NunoDuarte7 1 year ago
Yes it is a delay trick and we are still waiting for all of the idiots that claim it is easy to post their videos playing this song????
Wattershed22 1 year ago
@Wattershed22
I wouldn't call this "easy", however, it is much easier than it first sounds. Once you understand that many of the notes are delay/reverb generated by the amp you also realize that you only have to be an amazing guitar player to play this song, which Nuno is.
However, without knowing there are special effects involved, you might assume you had to be super human, imagining someones fingers moving at near light speeds.
vinbeers 1 year ago 24
@vinbeers not that easy ...you must play it in the perfect timming from start to end ... if u pick a single note at wrong time the delay will mess up the sound.
dejales 10 months ago
@vinbeers not superhuman speeds.....because both Nuno and I both could play that fast all the time,...we have, and we've both played much faster than that I'm sure entirely...however,..even if you try to duplicate this amazing solo...try it however you want to..... you may find it's easier to actually just play it at full speed, instead of the crazy timing Nuno demonstrated here with his totally awesome solo....which also adds for a more 3 dimensional and spaced out effect instead of 2-d :)
guitargup 9 months ago
@vinbeers The genius of this is how he manages to stay perfectly in time with the dlay pattern, the click helps, obviously, but it's still quite a remarkable feet to perform. Nuno has a the right hand to die for.
wampcat 6 months ago
@vinbeers some girls moves some fingers at nearly speed of sound o.O - that maybe the reson the track is embedded in heman woman hater - bad jokes apart, thx for the headup i thought the "phantom notes" were arpiggiated instead reverb/delayed
KStealed 6 months ago
For those who comment "it's just a delay trick".:.it does not straightforwardly imply this is *easy*. Your coordination must be 100% perfect, or it all will turn into a mess. And for the real "fligh", check out Jennifer Batten...
