Isham Jones was, hands down, the greatest band of the whole late 20's / early 30s era. I suspect (and I have no proof) that Fletcher Henderson may have arranged much of the material, because the bands are almost identical in their interpretations of these classics. Certainly Jones was influenced by Henderson. Jones' early 1920s work was entirely different, and should be considered like Whiteman's early 1920s offerings, seminal but primative. This is the full tilt boogie here.
I believe you're right about the quality of the music, but I don't know about its significance. Jones was pioneering in an obvious way in the acoustic era, but in the electric era he was merely making unusually good and honest music. That doesn't excite historians - at least not the kind who get to write books.
Oiginally recorded on July 31, 1934, during his last recording session for RCA {Victor/Bluebird}. He re-recorded the song on his first Decca session on August 31, 1934.
This version is ok, but I think Rube Bloom and his Blue Four`s version is better by far.

This has to be the best version of The Blue Room I've ever heard. And love that pounding bass!
