  • Now THIS is what I call COMPETITION and a CLASSIC Game

  • I miss Tic Tac Dough on GSN

  • Greatest match in Tic Tac Dough history.

  • wink is such a tacky host..he says at the end...thank yo Pete for being the BEST opponent we've seen for our champion...that basically is saying ..all those who came before were losers..

  • airdate was probably around i think may or june of 1980

  • I knew Tom. He is from my home town. He had mentioned that the questions on this show were ridiculously too easy. TOTO?

  • What was the original air date, please?

  • Thom McKee was the first player who actually knew everything when he left with $312,700.

  • Say, what were the original air dates for Thom McKee's appearances on TTD?

  • I seem to recall that Thom McKee gave Ken Jennings a standing invitation to join him at his home in Maryland(?) for a night of Trivial Pursuit. I wonder if they've had that game yet. If not, I'd sure like to be the fly on the wall for that one.

  • You and everyone else! They'd go at it for ages!

  • Oh, MAN! Meeeeeeeeeeeeee toooooooooo... they'd BOTH lose sleep that night! :) Did Ken accept his invitation?

  • Not that I'm aware of.

  • This match was great. It's not often that we have two opponents who really go at it for long periods of time. People say the red catagories were bad since they gave too many bonuses away; one red catagory was enough & that was what mae this game great. If it hadan't been for the secret catagory we would not have this famous moment in TTD history. Pete was very gracious bout his loss & Thom continued his winning streak. Wonderful match I wish we could have it every game.

  • Great sportsmanship by both men!!!!!!!!

  • Before Ken Jennings, there was Thom McKee.

  • Thom McKee and Ken Jennigs are 2 AWESOME Contestants.

and Ken Jennings maybe the Highest Winner in all of Television Game Shows, but Thom McKee will forever be the 1st EVER Undisputed King of Television Game Shows.

and BTW, the Thom McKee Era has already begun.

and so, Get Ready for the Ride of Your Life.

  • How did that pot go as high as $36,800?

  • According from numerous sources, the "Secret Category" (one of those darn red ones), plus the accumulating pot, a feature from the original 1950's "rigged" TTD.

  • One correct answer from the Secret Category and the pot automatically doubles.

  • This was the first game show I EVER watched!

  • Mine too. I came on at 7:00 pm on WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, right after ABC News and the PA Lottery drawing. The Joker's Wild came on at 7:30, and in 1986, TTD (with "Red Category" Caldwell) went to CBS at 10:00 am and TJW was replaced with Wheel of Fortune, with Jeopardy! coming on at 7:00.

  • I thought The Joker's Wild Was on WPVI-TV at 11:00AM

  • No, it was "AM Philadelphia," a local morning talk show with Wally Kennedy (now an anchor on KYW-AM) and Liz Kepner. This was in the days when WPVI was owned by Capitol Cities prior to the Capitol Cities/ABC merger. "Donahue" came on at 10:00 AM and "Action News" followed at Noon. TTD and TJW were on at the 7:00-8:00 hour, now occupied by Jeopardy! (7:00 p.m.) and WOF (7:30 p.m.).

  • You used to watch this on WPVI-TV? ME TOO!!!!

  • Nope! I rememeber watching this show on WOR-TV (channel 9) in New York City back in the 80's and again on CBN back in the mid-80's where they used to carry the game show block. CBN was a cable channel for its time long before it became ABC Family.

  • @HomeoftheGoodGuys It was on the USA Network too before everything changed in the mid-1990s. You know already what became of the network, right? NBC Universal, Monk, Law & Order: SVU, Burn Notice, and Psych ring any bells?

  • @tyrese3745 What sucked was USA only showed a limited part of the run, from 1982 to 1985, then back to 1982. All you saw of Thom on the USA reruns was the 1983 tournament.

  • $36,800 at the time. so what is it in todays money

  • It would have been $103,828 in 2007 dollars...

  • Americans are among the smartest people in the world!

dim432 is an Anti-Social, malcontent, Douche-bag, for making such a comment!

  • helps if there's money involved

  • One thing I've noticed was that in each game, Thom McKee always starts in the middle.

  • This is the greatest game of Tic Tac Dough I have seen. Hopefully I can see the entire 5 games on GSN soon. Would like to dd this to my collection.
