I don't know...but I think the ability to turn this way because of the engine reverse thrust function....carefully control reverse thrust plus the special wheel arrangement made it possible for this move.

The cool thing is the nice short take off and landing characteristics (STOL) coupled with Viggens thrust-reverse system. That's why they did this at airshows in the past, now Viggen has been phased out though (Shame, AJS-37D was technologically on par with JAS-39 Gripen, albeit with older airframes that required more service to maintain in flying condition). Anyway, as far as I know, only the Tornado has that sort of thrust reversing too, but Tornado is a newer aircraft.

Man, the Viggen is such a beautiful jet. All that dust is from the thrust reverser - to stop in such a short distance the Viggen has three flaps that close down at the jet engine exhaust to redirect the thrust from the jet forward instead of out the back. This reverse thrust allows the Viggen to stop in under 150 metres! Sick!

Actually, they are... The Gripen C and D are new modern fighters, well up to the task of fighting of most aircrafts today.

The CV90 is state of the art, maybe the best? Norway unfortenatly for theme bought a little less vesrion with only a 30 mm bushmaster =)

The swedish mbt strv122, Leo2A5IS was atleast until the A6 arrived the best mbt in many's eyes.

So, our stuff is modern, and our own =) We don't buy old models, like norway...
