Good point. There was definitely a subplot of corporate greed and mercenary atrocities that rang all to familiar. Though, I love the name of the company, "Multi-National United."
I would call District 9 the Alien Nation meets Alien,a what if the aliens from Alien Nation instead of being humanoid they turn up as insectoids. the racism.I love District 9 can't wait to see part 2.
I agree. I was a great film. lots of fun. Even though this genre doesn't usually allow for great characterization of its creatures, it was there in District 9. Also the film used dark comedy to make its point, so it was entertaining as it instructed. The little alien was fun, popping around like a human kid. I love movies. It's my way of keeping perspective in this crazy world and this one really fit the bill. Thanks for doing a vid! Newsish, are you a sci fi fan or just a movie fan?
What's up Newsish. Love your vids, I totally agree, District 9 was totally awesome. I don't know if my friends liked it as much as I did when we watched it tho.. Didn't seem to hit everyone the way it hit me but I'm glad I'm obviously not the only one who loved it.
If you can I would think that it would be at its best at the one of the Cinetopia theaters but the only ones currently available is one in Vancouver WA. but there is a new one is going to be built in Beaverton OR. Look them up if you want, there screen and picture quality is some of the best available today. LIke I said look it up they have some cool stuff but Knowing ware you live its going to not be easy to get to any of them but if you can I would truly recommend it.
Wow you just need to bitch about every damn thing huh? I think by now you should now that we are all beyond finished with dealing with you. And yes if I find the time I will fix it to make it sound better so lo life jackasses like yourself can rest easy.
They tried to do the camera work as if it was all hand-held cameras, even though in many of the scenes there was nobody present (or at least nobody filming) in the context of the movie. Other than that it was good!
Fucking amazing movie. It's a very raw movie, something I NEVER want to watch, but I think because this mirrors what goes on in the world, it was oddly healthy to see for some reason. I kept having flashbacks of the movie for about a day after I saw it, and even those were pure awesome. My girlfriend even had dreams about it and similar flashbacks. We really loved it.
What was so disappointing about it? I mean, I thought it WAS an intense and phenomenal movie; there was only one moment where i felt the need to call bullshit, and that's doing quite well for a modern movie!
Too long to get into the action? Who says that action was the point of the movie?
I went in hoping for a reasonably intelligent sci-fi movie, which is what I got, with some pretty cool action on top of it. If you went in hoping for a two-hour shoot-em-up, then it's no wonder you were disappointed.
Batman Begins was interesting and entertaining, I developed a connection with the characters and the story and wanted to know more. Just like with District 9.
Cloverfield was complete crap; I hated ALL the characters, there really wasn't much story there at all, and it was just generally dull and boring after the first, oh, fifteen minutes or so.
Naw batman beings tried to perceive it self as being interesting and entertaining , but wasn't the batman and the villains were all wrong. None of it connected properly except for batman arms dealer LOL.
Clover field wasn't dull though it was interestingly enough entertaining.
Okay, so once again your expectations are defeating you; you didn't like Batman Begins because it didn't meet YOUR expectations of what Batman SHOULD be, just like District 9 didn't live up to what YOU wanted from it. I went into District 9 not knowing what to expect and took it on its own terms...and LOVED it.
Cloverfield was TOTALLY dull; the characters were asshats I didn't care about, the monster showed up almost never, it was DULL.
No in batman begins batman talked like he has a soar throat all the time. and O how unpredictable was it that it turned out that the guy who trained him was the bad guy.
However the second batman was excellent.
Clover field while i can agree that some of the characters are asshats. The movie wasnt dull and it didnt create an over exception of what kinda of excitement it was going to be. Unlike batman and District 9
No, these are clearly YOUR expectations here; you've said, "Batman was this," and "Batman wasn't that," implying that there is a standard for Batman you hold which the movie didn't meet.
And Cloverfield was boring and interminable; pretty much everything after they got into the subway tunnel was dull, dull, dull. And when it wasn't dull, it was annoying.
Yea maybe, but for the most part no. If I made a movie the was boring as fuck. Had nothing but people talking though out the whole time. But in my trailers i threw nothing but explosions alien noises and something that looks like so guy is being attacked. What would that imply on me showing ONLY (if not all the good parts) and then the viewer who was tricked in to believing that it was going to be pretty darn good when in actuality it was horrible and nothing that the preview implied.
So like I said, you went in with specific expectations and were disappointed. That doesn't make the MOVIE bad.
It was a GREAT movie...for what it was supposed to be; you CLEARLY only didn't like it because it wasn't what you THOUGHT it was going to be. It was still a GREAT MOVIE, it just wasn't what you WANTED.
No thats not true. Overall is just wasn't good. True: it wasn't what i expected it to be and it hyped it self up as though it was going to be all that an it wasn't.
Ok in the beginning it was OK. Then it down hill when they went searching through alein homes and finding what seem like meth labs. Then mins later guy gets sprayed then theres talk about who this what why get him and then the guy turns into an alien (or something) himself.
No the makers of the movie make what kind of expectation of what the movie may be like.
The trailers for those films hyped up what really wasn't there. Virtually in district 9 its trailers put in almost every action scene it had thus creating false expectations to the viewers.
Clover field did not. Like in many movies there are some dull scenes /parts in it.
I felt the same way when watching District 9
like "WHATS THE FUCKING POINT" Honestly , there is nothing special about D-9 .
Well, there'z another part of your problem; I didn't see ANY trailers for District 9...I DID see "Alive in Joburg", the short that District 9 was based on, but that's it. So I went in with next to no expectations and was blown away. YOU went in expecting an action movie, and you shouldn't have.
District 9 was a very interesting sci-fi movie with lots of issues and questions it brought up, as well as having some cool action. You clearly missed all of that in your defeated expectations.
You have seen any trailers for D9? Well it was plastered all over youtube.
D-9 Was by far one of the worst movies id seen.
IDK maybe because I couldn't get into the fake issues or whatever. Honestly if it wasn't made as an action movie like most sci-if are then that should have been apparent. And NOT what the movie previews suggested.
Well, I didn't watch any of the trailers. And what I got out of District 9 wasn't exactly what I'd expected (in "Alive in Joburg", the aliens has psychic powers, for example. If you WATCH "Alive in Joburg", you might see why I wasn't surprised at what D9 turned out to be).
Are you saying you went to D9 EXPECTING an action movie because of the trailers? And you WANTED that? Because it still sounds to me like you went in wanting one thing, got something else, and are bitching about THAT.
I mean seriously the movie had action in it. Wilkus and Chris storming MNU. Wilkus fighting off the mercs with the battle mech. The mercenaries fighting the Nigerian insurgents. Phazon really has no argument.
Even the snobby movie critics here in Flint Michigan liked it. ( A- ) What does that tell you?
LOL are you devoided of all rational commonsense. Do you not know what an debate is? Honestly , you stupid people are amazing. Its so obvious in what you lack.
You're, frankly, THE ONLY ONE who didn't enjoy the movie. I genuinely enjoy it, and on its own terms.
You, on the other hand, let your expectations get the better of you and you're basically blaming everybody but yourself when the cause of your problem is clearly yourself.
You see, the marketers can't make the movie bad; only the filmmakers can do THAT. What happened was that you went into the theater expecting one thing and got something else; for all we know, you could easily have LOVED the movie...if your expectations weren't defeated.
But somehow this, to you, means that the movie is BAD? Because of the ADVERTISING?
...what was that about rationality? Your entire position is irrational!
You know what. Were finished with you just do us all a favor and just stop commenting because your opinions mean nothing to us. So just stop because your taking it way too far now.
If my opinions mean nothing then STOP relaying der? Idiot. You started this, you came to me , idiot youre really only making your self look more foolish der? moron. now I'm finishing it.
Okay I looked at each of your comments on why you just hate the movie and think it was just terrible. You know why I said your comment's mean nothing to use? Its because they are nothing, they are most infantile arguments I have ever read in my life. First you say that you hate the movie because of the lack of action which leads into some argument about Batman Begins and Clover Field. And now you say that hate the movie do to the trailers giving a different message which you think see cmt. pt2
From Pt1. seemed to be better than the real movie. Well suck it up because lots of movies in this day in age are like that. Just like how BionicDance said that you were some little baby that is crying because the toy looked better on TV then in real life. And you keep saying the same stuff over and over again it's really annoying. Its like dealing with a child unwilling to admit he/she/it is wrong. I hope your done now! Because Im tiered of it!
Ok you people are annoying. Why it it SOOO hard to understand that the D-9 was a bad movie. Because you idiots cant follow simple texts ,pay attention to, or comprehend what you're seen or read.
Now I humbly request you keep your stupidity to your self.
Okay you know what, if you did not like it don't just say it was horrible and not good at all. I mean what are you five years old. At least give some good reasons why you did not like it. I mean come on.
I agree that it's a great movie. The acting is good and the plot is realistic. But the violence is too explicit and there were lots of disgusting moments.
I'm so out of touch with pop culture that I've never heard of district 9 until there was a review of it on TYT. I hope it lives up to its youtube hype.
Yeah it was a good movie, not the best movie of all time but still a great movie. Was funny when I was watching a cooking show and they said prawns I kind of cringed at the word almost as if they said a curse word.
I saw this several weeks ago. I thought it was great original sci-fi but the story felt uneven. The concept is great and so are the effects but the story seemed to be pulled in many different directions and pacing felt off. Is it the best movie ever? Of this summer, maybe. But I appreciate all exposure for this film as it was sort of buried by Sony Marketing trying a word of mouth neo-marketing strategy.
Oh my god I just saw it a while ago today for the first time at Cinetopia. My god it was good. I really enjoyed it. It was so much better than I thought it was going to be! And I find it so weird that you made a video about it just now since I just saw it about at noon today.
The portrayal of the nigerian gangster complete with witch doctors and a taste ofr alien flesh that borders on canablism(South Africans are said to hold a distatse for them), the aliens are made to look like filthy violent disgusting animals so if the comparison is to apartied than the view is the same for black south africans. Than there was the wghole prostitue thing that stinks of hyper sexualism of blacks. Im not saying the film maker was conscious of this but that crap stood out to me.
I thought it pwned, but I don't think it was history-making. Maybe if something similar had come out 50 years ago, it would have shaken the foundations of cinema, but I think it was somewhat lost on today's audience. Nevertheless, good movie for sure.
I saw the movie, and i do not think it is that good. Independence day easily out ranks this movie.

I Think It's A An Overrated Movie; It's Missing Some Stuff... And I Also Think That It's Very, Very Overhyped...
I Guess What Made A Lotta Folks Overrate It Is 2 Things: Peter Jackson, And The Unique Story.
One Note For Those Folks Who Haven't Watched It Yet, Get Your Expectations Right; This Is Not Aliens, And This Is Not Wars of the Worlds.
Oh, And Hey, Did You Like The Cinematography? I Really Didn't...

The trailers for those films hyped up what really wasn't there. Virtually in district 9 its trailers put in almost every action scene it had thus creating false expectations to the viewers.
Clover field did not. Like in many movies there are some dull scenes /parts in it.
I felt the same way when watching District 9
like "WHATS THE FUCKING POINT" Honestly , there is nothing special about D-9 .
phazon4 2 years ago
Well, there'z another part of your problem; I didn't see ANY trailers for District 9...I DID see "Alive in Joburg", the short that District 9 was based on, but that's it. So I went in with next to no expectations and was blown away. YOU went in expecting an action movie, and you shouldn't have.
District 9 was a very interesting sci-fi movie with lots of issues and questions it brought up, as well as having some cool action. You clearly missed all of that in your defeated expectations.
BionicDance 2 years ago
You have seen any trailers for D9? Well it was plastered all over youtube.
D-9 Was by far one of the worst movies id seen.
IDK maybe because I couldn't get into the fake issues or whatever. Honestly if it wasn't made as an action movie like most sci-if are then that should have been apparent. And NOT what the movie previews suggested.
phazon4 2 years ago
Well, I didn't watch any of the trailers. And what I got out of District 9 wasn't exactly what I'd expected (in "Alive in Joburg", the aliens has psychic powers, for example. If you WATCH "Alive in Joburg", you might see why I wasn't surprised at what D9 turned out to be).
Are you saying you went to D9 EXPECTING an action movie because of the trailers? And you WANTED that? Because it still sounds to me like you went in wanting one thing, got something else, and are bitching about THAT.
BionicDance 2 years ago 2
I mean seriously the movie had action in it. Wilkus and Chris storming MNU. Wilkus fighting off the mercs with the battle mech. The mercenaries fighting the Nigerian insurgents. Phazon really has no argument.
Even the snobby movie critics here in Flint Michigan liked it. ( A- ) What does that tell you?
Savior20061 2 years ago 2
Mostly it tells me that Phazon is just a big honkin' BABY. ;)
BionicDance 2 years ago
LOL are you devoided of all rational commonsense. Do you not know what an debate is? Honestly , you stupid people are amazing. Its so obvious in what you lack.
phazon4 2 years ago
This hasn't been a debate at all.
And that's honestly how you're behaving: like a big ol' baby whose toy didn't turn out to be as neat out of the box as it did on TV.
BionicDance 2 years ago
What ? Now you're not even trying to make sense.
I could just as easily say the same except you're a child who just ate and now you want more.
phazon4 2 years ago
Hardly.
You're, frankly, THE ONLY ONE who didn't enjoy the movie. I genuinely enjoy it, and on its own terms.
You, on the other hand, let your expectations get the better of you and you're basically blaming everybody but yourself when the cause of your problem is clearly yourself.
BionicDance 2 years ago
Ok who exactly im I blaming for the movie being terrible? GEE the marketers maybe for misrepresentation.
But you I see rationality doesn't come easy to you so I will leave it at that.
phazon4 2 years ago
See, that's where you're wrong.
BionicDance 2 years ago 2
See you didn't even to bother to read what I said.
Thus confirming the your inability to rationalize or and i see some comprehension issues as well.
phazon4 2 years ago
You know what. Were finished with you just do us all a favor and just stop commenting because your opinions mean nothing to us. So just stop because your taking it way too far now.
BeRad117 2 years ago
If my opinions mean nothing then STOP relaying der? Idiot. You started this, you came to me , idiot youre really only making your self look more foolish der? moron. now I'm finishing it.
phazon4 2 years ago
Okay I looked at each of your comments on why you just hate the movie and think it was just terrible. You know why I said your comment's mean nothing to use? Its because they are nothing, they are most infantile arguments I have ever read in my life. First you say that you hate the movie because of the lack of action which leads into some argument about Batman Begins and Clover Field. And now you say that hate the movie do to the trailers giving a different message which you think see cmt. pt2
BeRad117 2 years ago
From Pt1. seemed to be better than the real movie.
BeRad117 2 years ago
Ok you people are annoying. Why it it SOOO hard to understand that the D-9 was a bad movie. Because you idiots cant follow simple texts ,pay attention to, or comprehend what you're seen or read.
Now I humbly request you keep your stupidity to your self.
Fucking fool
phazon4 2 years ago
Its not that you did not get into the fake issues its that could not comprehend the fake issues.
BeRad117 2 years ago
Okay you know what, if you did not like it don't just say it was horrible and not good at all. I mean what are you five years old. At least give some good reasons why you did not like it. I mean come on.
BeRad117 2 years ago
i think you missed the point XP

It was an horrible movie.
Thats my opinion of the movie.
I'm not giving a movie review just an opinion.
Do you understand the difference?
phazon4 2 years ago
The movie is a masterful work of contemporary literature and your review does no credit to the movie. No offense.
DrQuijano 2 years ago
I couldn't agree more. This really is an amazing piece of work.

I agree that it's a great movie. The acting is good and the plot is realistic. But the violence is too explicit and there were lots of disgusting moments.

Dont worry about it.

I dont expect you to see it or understand so dont worry about it.

Im not saying the film maker was conscious of this but that crap stood out to me.
clnmike 2 years ago
I thought it pwned, but I don't think it was history-making. Maybe if something similar had come out 50 years ago, it would have shaken the foundations of cinema, but I think it was somewhat lost on today's audience. Nevertheless, good movie for sure.

It's actually about prejudice so yeah.

No prejudice is focusing on the oppressors not reinforcing racist views.
clnmike 2 years ago
It's racist against a fake organisms?
