I often make the mistake of watching this show at the gym. The upside is that, when I'm on cardio, I get that part of the gym all to myself because I'm usually laughing hysterically. The downside is that I once laughed so hard that I fell off the elliptical and went ass over tea kettle. This is the best show ever and I happen to think Sarah Alexander is the most beautiful woman in the entire world.

These "Coupling vs Friends" comments are annoying. Why can't people simply enjoy both shows for what they are? Perhaps the backbone of the show is the same, but the execution and content on Coupling is very different. Both are fine shows in their own right.

In the US version... all they did was exchange the vocabulary. it just didn't translate well. They should have just started a whole new chapter with all new characters, written by Moffat if possible. Owell.

I agree. Coupling was really good, but it doesn't deserve being called 'the best comedy series of all time". The 4th season felt as if theiy burnt out and had no more ideas to continue this show on a former level.

yh they was ment to make series 5 and 6 but after the 4th no one wanted to see a them but the main storry for the 5th series was ment to be about steve and susan trying to cope with there baby and the story of the 6th series was going to be about patrick and sally geting married

I agree Jeff was irreplacable, he's so awesome. Oliver doesn't manage that strange charm, and in season 4 Patrick and Sally definitely are the best bit. But Jack Davenport is always great to watch!

I always wondered why British series only have 6 episodes to a season. Isn't that kind of little for a whole season?

I'm from another country, so I don't really know why.

By the way, I thought Jane was hot. Totally loved her and Jeff's characters the most. Couldn't believe it when Jeff left after the 3rd season.

It varies. British TV doesn't tend to work in seasons so much which is why we call them 'series' rather than 'season'

Coupling is a strange example because the first series had 6 episodes, the second had 9, third had 7 and then the fourth was back down to 6.

well British series are generally only written by one or two people, where American shows have whole teams of writers. Also as the BBC is funded by the license fee they don't have as big a budget as other television companies who are funded through advertisements.

One word to describe this show: SMART! The jokes were actually smart! Unlike other sitcoms which are/were based on over acting delivering, and laugh tracks. Coupling jokes were intelligent with some truth,that's why it's so funny.

The thing with Friends is they had a huge number of writers working together and presumably changing over the years.

Coupling was written by one genius Steven Moffat and jokes started repeating. The departure of Jeff hurt the series but by the end of the 4th, Oliver was fitting in OK and there are still some great eps.

Anyone hearing of it returning has probably been misinformed about "Adam and Eve" Moffat's new project which has now been shelved as he is now leading Doctor Who production.

According to the Wikipedia entry, it was the scheduling conflicts of the actors that prevented further episodes. I was quite bummed out when I found that out for this is the funniest TV show I have ever seen!
