hey which is the waterstone set you use and strop and compounds please i was watching carter Cutlery but you have won me over i will practice your style oh and what grit to purchase please your awesome thanx for sharing
@82775Smitty I've reached the top quality stones finally. Which are Naniwa Chosera stones. They are expensive but deserve the money. If you get other stones, you will think you are not good at water stone sharpening. But just after you get the Chosera stones, you will feel you are the best sharpener in the world. #400 for initial edge reprofiling, #800 for sharpening, and #3000 for finishing are recommended. And I use DLT two sided paddle strop and Bark River white compound. Thanks.
Our strap board, is that leather covered or some kind of sanding paper ? I live in the USA and I have a belt set, one belt in leather and one belt in nylon like belt that has a grit round 300. Does your strap board have a name ?
thank you for making all your videos i really appreciate all of them please keep making more.. every thing i know about knives its thanks to you, and thank you for always ansewring the comments. thank you!!
do you still use green compound at all? Looks like I have white compound to pick up now lol. Thank you again, I learn something new every-time I see on of your vids
Wako, I just received the same strop as you recommended. I am wondering if you can make a video of how you clean your strops. I usually use the back side of another knife and scrape the old compound off and into a garbage bag. How do you do it? Maybe yours is more efficient? Thanks!
Couple questions. How often do you load the strop with compound? Do you use green compound at all anymore. Trying to decide if I should clean the green compound off my strop and just put white compound on there instead.
I'm surprised that you like the SOG Flash. I used to like SOG knives until I got a hold of a couple Spyderco's and Benchmades and then I realized what my money could buy and haven't looked at SOG since.
Now I'm a Chris Reeve junkie. I think you would appreciate the level of precision that goes into Chris Reeve Knives as well as their cutting ability. I've never felt a thinner hollow grind on any other knife.
@jeffersontool CRK are great knives.. but a fixed blade Dozier Hunter is thinner grind and high performance if you like hollow grind blades. The Sebenza is a great knife, but its cutting geometry is much thicker and not comparable to most of Virtuovices leaner convex hunting knives. Its definately exceptional in comparison to some of his folders.
@knivesandstuff I totally agree. I was referring to folders in general. I should have specified. I love this channel for the fixed blade knowledge. I have a personal dislike for SOG based on what I think are cheap designs and quality. I realize it's my own opinion and I agree that they have a couple cool designs. Oddly, I live about three miles from the SOG factory/headquarters and they're the company that got me interested in knives.
@jeffersontool We all change tastes over time.. I have never been into SOG myself.. I do love CRK though. cant think of a production folder I'd rather have.
@fredde90210 Please go to Crystal Falls Trading, or DLT Trading in the US. Other than them KnivesShipFree, The-Knife-Connection, and Jagged Horizon Knives are the major Bark River stocking dealers. Thanks.
That cheap advertisement paper is a challenging test medium, like phonebook paper. If you can draw cut it, the knife is sharp. Push cut and it's very sharp and if you can "S" cut it, it's scary sharp
Konichiwa from Brazil virtuo ! Regular stropping of V edge will probably transform them in a convex eventually won't it? It will take a lot of time I guess tho :P
@leanrio What you are saying is very correct. But the Bark River white compound has little power to make the edge convex but has much power to make the very edge very thin and sharp. Thanks.
your vids are always so informative, i have also been using the strop to maintain my V edges, it works well and it is faster than setting my E.P. up, plus you remove less metal this way, thanks
