I looooooooooooooooove this song and look at them legs, shoes, outfit MAKES NO SENSE lol---she only touches down to feel her wings again!!! YES BABY!!
I love every song by this legendary group, BUT, "NightBirds" is THE most beautiful song of their repertoire! This song and performance gives me goosebumps! LADIES!!! We MISS you!!!! Come Back!!!
This is actually one of my favorite LABELLE songs. i was 5 when i first heard it, 11 when i really listened to the lyrics...the vocals are off the chain then and now...
this is such a beautiful song that Nona wrote back in the 70s. it is such ashame this group never got a grammy award back then, and that Nona got the acclaim she deserves even to this day.
Nighbird fly by the light of the moon makes no difference if it's only a game released, relived just for the day It's a nightbird's way she sees, she scores, she stores nothing away Tomorrow's a dream, running out of steam leaving bits and pieces in her way She lives the day before day (Nightbird's sky is never high enough) she only touches down just to feel her wings again laughing, crying, all the way hear the nightbird' pray She lives, she dies, she files nothing away
Great to hear them sing this. Wish they should sing this song againt, next time with a electronic keyboard, a rock band, and patti not singing in a falsetto throughout. What do you think my fair doodleynoo ;-)
@iboudiop Man I am just so happy to have heard these women do this song again that I don't even care. This is one of Nona's greatest songs. Captures Janis Joplin's live-for-today, to-hell-with-tomorrow essence perfectly.
I love this song and I love this performance. What I don't like: the piano. Props to John Stanley, he's a fine pianist but his playing, for me, distracted from the vocals. John played as if he was playing for soloists Patti Labelle not a group of ladies who are masters at singing complex harmony and melodies with a minimal accompaniment. I think this would've been better had he played the chordal harmony of this song on some form of electric piano sound and let Labelle sing. Next time!
It's true! this song is about Janis Joplin. I was there too, and the whole place was shaking when these ladies took the stage. Greatest show EVER! The audience didn't want to let them go.
Let me tell you... the Beacon is not the place to stand up during a concert. Damnit I stood up almost the whole damn show. Sitting down while these 3 amazing ladies are on stage is almost impossible. Let's all hope that Grammy's 2010 has Labelle all over it.
I mean come on...the heels are OVER!..lol. There will never be another chick group like them. I get the impresisont that we're watching history, here. Cant wait until they're inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
Nona Hendryx looks fantastic

And yesterday's a thought, unwillingly caught, in a mind where there's nothing to gain
she feeds the fire for the flame

Thank you for the lyrics to this beautiful and underrated song.

You're welcome--but I just realized I made a mistake. The correct lyric is "leaving bits and pieces in her wake..."

I was thinking about this obscure song today! I had no idea that they still sang it! I would have been in tears, had I been there!
